Re: Official game thread: Jags/Patriots

Rankings based on points scored/yielded:

Pats: #1 offense (506) / #17 defense (315)
Jags: #31 offense (219) / #29 defense (383)

Brady threw a crapload of passed Sunday night, so hopefully they run the ball on JAX and let his arm rest up.

Re: Official game thread: Jags/Patriots

<yoda>TFB practice he did not.</yoda> ...

Quarterback Tom Brady did not practice today due to a right shoulder injury, though he's been at the facility throughout the day to do everything else. Linebacker Mike Rivera (ankle) also didn't participate after suffering an injury Sunday.

Other new injuries included cornerback Alfonzo Dennard's knee and linebacker Dont'a Hightower's shoulder.

Linebacker Jerod Mayo (elbow) was limited today after being a full participant with the injury in recent weeks, so he suffered a setback.

Cornerback Kyle Arrington (knee) and defensive tackle Ron Brace(elbow) were removed from this week's injury report, and safetyPatrick Chung's hamstring was taken off the report, but his shoulder remained.

Here is the full report.

Did not practice:

Quarterback Tom Brady (right shoulder)

Linebacker Mike Rivera (ankle)

Limited participation:

Safety Patrick Chung (shoulder)

Right guard Dan Connolly (back)

Cornerback Alfonzo Dennard (hamstring, knee)

Tight end Rob Gronkowski (forearm, hip)

Tight end Aaron Hernandez (ankle)

Linebacker Dont'a Hightower (hamstring, shoulder)

Defensive end Chandler Jones (ankle)

Wide receiver Brandon Lloyd (knee)

Defensive tackle Kyle Love (knee)

Left guard Logan Mankins (ankle, calf)

Linebacker Jerod Mayo (elbow)

Offensive lineman Nick McDonald (shoulder)

Left tackle Nate Solder (abdomen)

Linebacker Brandon Spikes (knee, ankle)

Cornerback Aqib Talib (hip)

Right tackle Sebastian Vollmer (back, knee)

Wide receiver Wes Welker (ankle)

Linebacker Tracy White (elbow)

Re: Official game thread: Jags/Patriots

As long as they still have a shot at a top 2 seed and a bye week, then I hope they play to win.  If the Texans and Broncos lock those seeds up, then go ahead and rest up starters and get playing time for the backups.  Of course the backups always seem to get plenty of playing time on this team anyway.

Brady was back at practice. Spikes spent most of the session on the stationary bike and getting treatment.

I hope brady's shoulder is ok.Where is the pass ruh right now on this team? They just dont have one. They are gonna have to find one in the playoffs especially on the road.Chandler Jones hasnt generated a pass rush for this team.Idk if he is 100 percent but they need someone to get after the QB.I also worry about teams that can cover in space and play great man to man defense. These wrs couldnt get any type of separation when the 49ers play man coverage.

The Pats will hang 40+ on the Jags, and Tom should put up Big numbers this Sunday, even with a bum shoulder.

Everyone at practice today. The decision has already been made to sit Gronk against JAX and play him against MIA next week.

Good decision.... give him another week to get healthy and then use the Miami game to knock off the rust before the Playoffs start.

I'll be rooting for the Vikings tomorrow and the Colts next week.  I'm not giving up on the 2-seed just yet.

I hope the Pats cruise in this one.  This should be like a pre-season game.  Just get out of there with no new injuries.

Pollard does not play for the jags does he? Kidding i know he does not but he seems to be the one who likes to play dirty and hurt pats players.

If the Patriots win out and the Broncos drop 1 of their last 2 the Patriots will get the #2 seed, but I really don't see that happening. No way the Broncos lose to the Chiefs. The only hope the Pats have is with the Browns winning today and even that's a stretch even though the Browns are playing really well right now.

The Browns aren't playing that well, really.  Weeden turned in a real bad game last week against a decent team at home.  I'm not holding out much hope for him today.  The only way Denver loses is if Manning goes into a turnover funk.

They're playing a lot better then the Chiefs. The Texans might lose 1 but no way they lose 2...so if you're looking for the #2 seed it will come with a loss to the Browns. And even if Manning turns the ball over a bunch, he still finds a way to win.

I'm content with the #3

Whatever the seed, I'd feel better finishing ahead of the Broncos.  Denver is the one place I wouldn't want to have to visit in the playoffs.

As for today's game, the Pats should be able to run all over the Jags.  I wonder if Ridley is going to play much.  He could be in BB's doghouse after last week.

From what I see on Twitter, this may be more like an extended practice session for the Pats. Lots of subs getting reps, lots of injured starters being used sparingly. I think BB will do just barely enough to win.

I am more convince now that the pats are the best team in the AFC.That doesnt mean they will represent the afc in the superbowl once again. That loss to the 49ers is looming large. This is a better team then the texans plain and simple. The texans will most likely hang on to home field advantage.I will be dissapointed if they cant get to the AFC championship game.

Started out kinda flat, relaxed conservative playbook, rested some starters, did just enough to win. It is what it is. Houston lost, and has indy next week, there is still hope for a 1st round bye.

Re: Official game thread: Jags/Patriots

Did they put any pressure on Henne? The bad pass defense was in full effect just by looking at Henne's stats.Granted he got picked off 3 times. Was Jones invisible again? Looks like a bye for this team will come down to the colts beating the texans. The broncos wont blow their chances against these lousy teams. You do wonder though if this big winning streak is a plus for the broncos.

Henne WAS picked off at least 2x because of the pass defense.

Pats won't rest the D vs Denver ...or Gronk

Brady has had 700 yards passing and 4 TDs the last two weeks. That's not showing up?

Re: Official game thread: Jags/Patriots

I didn't see the game but from what Gil and Zo were saying on the radio broadcast it sounded like they were looking pretty bad on both sides of the ball in the 1st quarter, then they got better for the second and third, though still not at their usual level, and then in the fourth they reverted back almost to 1st quarter form.  Also they were saying Brady was very inaccurate in many cases.

However, according to Reiss they were doing a lot of substituting and many of their key players were not playing full time like they usually do.  It sounds like BB was doing a bit of a balancing act between keeping his regulars active trying to win the game, while also getting the backups plenty of work and protecting guys from injury.

I'm fine with 3 as well.  The Pats should beat whomever they play in that spot.  However, Houston is going to have their hands full with Indy next week.

Pretty much sums up the Patriots performance Sunday....

“We played pretty terrible out there,” said quarterback Tom Brady. “We’re lucky to win. Just a poor effort overall. Didn’t compete. Execution was terrible.”

Said guard Logan Mankins: “Some weeks you’re good, some weeks you look like crap like we did today.”
