Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
This is the official thread for the game between: VS
Who would have thought that the Colts and Patriots would have the same record heading into this game. Talib could not be activated quick enough.

How confident am I in this game? I have both Brady and Leaf in the Yahoo Fantasy team. I am playing Brady and am willing to trade Leaf for a decent backup. Make me an offer. Buyer beware, in addition to his 10 TD and 2600 yards passing he has 9 ITs and 7 fumbles.
Yes Indy will score, but even close to what the Pats do. The Pats will run and pass very effectively on them. Indy doesn't have anything like the combo of Spiller and Jackson. The Pats lead the league in + turn overs.

This'll be interesting to see how Talib changes the look of the secondary. There isn't much of the playbook he'll be able to get down in under a week.

Per BB's presser, Talib is getting individual attention this week getting him up to speed on terminology and so forth. Every indication is that he'll play against Indy.

Somehow, - this team HAS to develop a pass rush. The offense puts up enough points to take most games.

Re: Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
Maybe it'd help the pass-rush if the blitzed more. Or blitzed any. Some games it's like they forget to blitz. Even if a blitz doesn't get to the QB, it still forces the QB to rush his throw. And after that the QB has to check-down if the Pats show blitz, they can't just waltz up to the line and run what they want.
Besides, it ain't like the base coverage is doing any good anyway. The defensive playcalling seems so passive most games.
And then there's that crapola prevent D they do when they're ahead in the 4th. Ugh.

They've looked the best when they mix in blitzes. Playing a young QB prone to TOs would be a good opportunity.

For me it was always Polian, his arrogant attitude, and his serving rules changes with the Competition Committee (basically legal cheating).

I'm not even joking, wouldn't you rather have his talent in there while risking a few blown plays instead of having our current dbacks? It's not like we have some complex, successful defensive back scheme that's confusing QB's.

Re: Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
I expect they'll treat him like a rookie this week and just give him a simplified set of assignments. They almost have to get him a few reps to get him into the flow because they have another game the following Thursday against the "best" Jets team.
The thing that kills me with not blitzing on 3rd-and-long is that their base D is giving up almost 20 yards a pop on those plays. If you blitz and the QB picks it up, ok, he hits his RB or slot guy for 5 or 8 yards. Maybe they still get the 1st down. But they won't have time for a WR to get 20 yards downfield.

The defensive scheme flat out stinks. Why not bring the blitz at times? If your not getting pressure up front.I think this team needs someone up front that can help take the load of Wilfork. They need a tackle that can push the pocket somewat and become disruptive.

Re: Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
Kyle Love has been doing pretty well, but they need one more guy to rotate through the middle of the line. Brace was supposed to be that guy, but he's always injured it seems. Deaderick is the same deal - showed flashes but seems to be hurt a lot.

Re: Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
I agree with this. The deal is other teams are heaving it down the field and making the big plays anyway when no one is rushing the QB. So why not bring the house and blitz the heck out of them at least then you increase your chances of hurrying the other teams QB and forcing him into making mistakes. dominicanthug wrote: The defensive scheme flat out stinks. Why not bring the blitz at times? If your not getting pressure up front.I think this team needs someone up front that can help take the load of Wilfork. They need a tackle that can push the pocket somewat and become disruptive.

I agree. However, Belichick was clearly counting on the Bills making enough mistakes to self-destruct which turned out to be the case. It wouldn't surprise me to see the same type of "vanilla" defense out there on Sunday, expecting mistakes or turnovers, Colts needing to play catch-up, etc. Hopefully, Talib will help just by having more talent out there -- I don't think they can get any worse than what we saw last Sunday. That had to be close to the worst defensive performance I've seen in the Belichick era.

Re: Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
For the defensive scheme to be so complex, it looks more vanilla to me more than anything. DB's don't turn and locate the ball and the prevent is just let the offense do whatever they want.

Re: Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
Luck has been a TO machine so ya they should expect some TOs, but I think they will be more aggressive against Indy as well. In fact they've been better when they have been aggressive, if that's what you mean by vanilla.

The Pats did a horrific job of tackling last week. BB gets pretty cranky when there are breakdowns in those kinds of fundamentals. I expect there was some discussion on this matter during practice.

`Colts' Davis, Fleener out; Darius Butler starts`
I saw this article on ESPN and I wouldn`t be a bit surprised if he plays well on Sunday, if not, lights out-further proving the secondary and defensive coaching including BB is not so hot for the pats!

It seems pretty clear that's what they were doing with Buffalo -- although, I'm sure Belichick didn't want to see the mistakes and missed tackles on top of it. I expect a little better performance on Sunday, but they have nowhere to go but up in my opinion.

Re: Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
Hernandez not expected to play.
I think Mankins has missed practice all week, but Connolly was back.
Welker is a maybe despite missing practice all week.
From Twitter: In locker room, safety Steve Gregory & CB Kyle Arrington both say CB Aqib Talib has picked things up quickly.
So the O is kind of beat up. I would love to see a big-time performance from the D this weekend.

Re: Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
One thing about pressuring the qb is, the d-line is undersized in 3-4, minus wilfork you got nikovich and jones right around the 250-260 mark. In a 4-3 you would have wilfork, deadrick and or love 300+ lbs in the middle with jones and niko rushing the outside. Spikes is best at run d, with mayo doing everything. I wish flectcher didnt get injuried cause he woulda been great alongside mayo for all around coverage. A nice pass rush would help out the pass coveage a ton. Lets hope talib helps things too.

Re: Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
Losing Fletcher hurt the D more than people realize.
Hightower is doing pretty well - I'm always amazed how a human that large can be so damn fast too. Would be nice to get him more involved in pass rush, he'd be tough to stop.

Re: Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
Sorry for jumping in the discussion. Alas, I think GinoC is right. We (Colts) are a team full of rookies and journeymen players. We are still developing new offensive and defensive schemes. On paper, we are seriously outmatched by the Patriots.

Re: Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
Fresh off Twittah:
The Patriots have released Deion Branch and Malcolm Williams. Greg Salas and Aqib Talib are added to the 53. #PatriotsTalk
Branch injured his hamstring Friday and was questionable for Sunday with the Colts. Led to his release, Salas activation. #PatriotsTalk
The Patriots did activate CB Aqib Talib, according to a league source.

Re: Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
With Hernandez unlikely to play and Welker questionable to play, if Branch also was going to be out then they needed to get a healthy receiver in there. Thus the activation of Salas. Branch only had I think 8 or 9 catches so far this season so it's not like he can't be replaced. Just needed a healthy body. I doubt anyone else picks him up, so there's probably a good chance he'll be back sooner than later.

Re: Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
Shiancoe is probably ready to contribute more now, so they can afford to let Hernandez rest.
I expect them to use Welker sparingly as they have the Jets on Thursday, and they'll need him for that game.
Indy is 22nd against the run, so lets hope McD realizes this fact.

Re: Week 11 Official game thread. Colts vs. Patriots
Chung`s no surprise, they need to cut that waste and hopefully find someone who can not only play, but can remain healthy, but given the brilliant draft and GM skills of a BB-their probably better off with the damaged goods.
I`m also getting a little sick of this Hernandez and Mankins always being hurt. Especially when they make big money-they each average about 7 to 8 ball games a year.

I'm really starting to understand why Stealth lost interest in coming around here. As for Chung, he's a free agent after this season so whoever doesn't want him on the team may get their wish.
