Re: BYE week thread

I gave them  B+. I think the pats are some coaching and a couple of crappy plays away from being 8-0. Now the only bad part is my wife will want me to watch her team this weekend (steelers) At least i have the walking dead to look foward to sunday night. Go Pats.

I gave 'em a B. They haven't shown the ability to finish strong and close a game against a good team yet.

Re: BYE week thread

Roster moves:

The Patriots have waived second-year cornerback Sterling Moore, according to a league source.

In corresponding moves, the club has signed linebacker Mike Rivera and veteran defensive back Derrick Martin. The team already had an open roster spot after releasing linebacker Bobby Carpenter on Tuesday.

Also, the contract of practice squad tight end Alex Silvestro has been terminated.

One other roster related note: The Patriots worked out three veteran kickers -- Billy Cundiff, Neil Rackers and Graham Gano.

Moore, a second-year player out of Southern Methodist, played in all eight games this season for the Patriots (0 starts). His most recent role was as the team's nickel back.

In 2011, he appeared in six regular-season games for the Patriots (3 starts).

Re: BYE week thread

Following up on the Moore cut, sort of pulling together all the pieces I'm seeing.

He played 43% of the defensive snaps - so a lot of observers were surprised to see him go. One theory is that he is, in fact, battling a lingering injury much as Bodden was before he was cut, and they don't see him returning to his 2011 form in the next 8 weeks. Another is they needed more help on ST and Moore doesn't contribute there. Another is they don't see the improvement they wanted from him and they hope he slips through waivers and lands back on the PS. If he had played in one more game, they wouldn't be able to move him back to PS.

I think it's all of the above. He just doesn't seem to be covering with the same speed and aggressiveness as last season. And he's been on the injury report pretty much every week.

The guy they replaced him with, Derrick Martin, doesn't look statistically to be all that red hot. But he was on the last 2 SB-winning teams (NYG and GB) - so he has playoff experience that the new guys sorely lack. And he's supposed to be a ST ace, that always tickles BB's fancy.

Re: BYE week thread

Surprise by that move. This team is very thin at CB.BB always seems to make a move like this every year.It makes u scratch ur head.I would give this team a B right now.Seems like Brady thinks 5-3 is just about right for this team which is ludicrous!I i saw it in an article. This team should be 7-1 at least.I really hope they turn it on,in the second half.

"The Patriots worked out three veteran kickers -- Billy Cundiff, Neil Rackers and Graham Gano."
.
Now why would they be looking at kickers?? - A "just in case" move???

C

It's the games you loose, you know, the one's you really should win that come back and kick you in the " 6 ".

Re: BYE week thread

I gave a B.  I expected a better record and better performance from the secondary.  Who would have thought they would be playing 3 rookies in the secondary so much because of injuries? The running game and OL have been a pleasant surprise.  The front 7 on defense has also been much better than I expected.

The team is 7 points away from being undefeated and talking about 16-0 again.  I'm kind of glad they lost those games though - it adds fire and motivation.

Re: BYE week thread

Well, they got a 1st rounder CB. Maybe McCourty can stick to safety now. This should make things interesting.

From Twitter: Talib is talented but volatile - has hit a teammate w a helmet, got into fistfight with a TB teammate at rookie symposium, hit a cab driver // but he has 53 pass breakups, 18 interceptions and 3 INT-TDs in 58 games...also is in the final season of his rookie deal

BB has his work cut out for him with this guy. But if BB can turn him around, the secondary is a different story.

I wonder wat they gave up,considering the risk.He has 18 career interceptions since he came into the league in 2008.Hopefully he is a guy that can play some man coverage.

Re: BYE week thread

He's in the last year of his rookie deal, discipline issues in TB, 4-game suspension. Probably TB wasn't going to keep him anyway, at least this way they get something for their 1st round pick.

Everyone seems to agree he's very talented. Everyone also seems to agree he's a major pain.

UPDATE: The trade details: CB Aqib Talib and a 2013 7th-round pick for a 2013 4th-round pick.

I think the siging will turn out okay. Patriots somehow get these guys to behave when they come to town. Amazing what being on a winning team can do for people sometimes.

Re: BYE week thread

The locker room atmosphere will also contribute. When you have guys like Wilfork and Mayo in the defensive meeting room that sets a tone. I'm less worried about the weed issues than his violent outbursts. Hopefully the family-like atmosphere RK imbues will settle this kid down. If not, he's done after the season and will carry the badge of "not even BB could turn him around."

Sterling Moore was re-signed to the Practice Squad today. Kinda figured that was what was gonna happen.

Re: BYE week thread

I gave them a C+ ONLY because of those two bad losses against the cards and the hawks, the play of the defense regressed from game 1 and this whole Welker mess at the start of the season. The ups is that Brady looks to be on pace to having another spectacular year (although it`s been a quiet approach.) I like the way they played against the Rams; especially when they had a loaded inactive list. I hope that game will set the table for the second half. Finally, I have a great feeling about this Talib pickup-I think he can really help.

I never bought into the cardinals's 4-1 record. That loss irks me more.I wanna see better pass coverage and keep establishing that running game in the second half.
