OT: Jets shopping Tebow??? ...

Forbes surveyed NFL fans and this week published lists of the league's most and least popular players, mostly just water-cooler fodder. But it was interesting to note that Tim Tebow wasn't on either of them.
.

That's because Tebow has become irrelevant with the New York Jets, despite all that talk and conjecture this summer about how Rex Ryan and Tony Sparano might use him.
.

In the last two games, Tebow has been on the field for 11 offensive snaps. Clearly, the Jets can't figure out what to do with him. And that figures to continue, as starting quarterback Mark Sanchez is playing pretty well.

Tuesday is the NFL's trading deadline, and there's been widespread speculation the Jets have been shopping around Tebow, as they should. Of course, with all the hype surrounding him coming to New York in the first place, and Jets owner Woody Johnson fawning over him, it's a reach to think the club would readily ship him elsewhere.
.

Still, if they aren't going to use him, the Jets should let him go. Jacksonville is the most logical destination, considering Tebow grew up there, has a huge fan base in the region, and could help a franchise dealing with a banged-up starter in Blaine Gabbert (shoulder) and an uninspiring backup in Chad Henne. Tebow could put fans in the seats, too, which traditionally has been a problem with the Jaguars.
.

New England could be a fit too. Josh McDaniels, who drafted Tebow in Denver, is the Patriots offensive coordinator and surely could find ways to use him, and Bill Belichick has always been creative about getting versatile weapons on the field. It's hard to imagine the Jets trading Tebow within the division, though.
.

Then, there's Seattle. Pete Carroll aggressively tried to recruit Tebow to USC and loves his attitude. Seahawks starter Russell Wilson has Tebow-like mobility (and charisma), and the Seahawks' scheme wouldn't be as dramatic a departure for Tebow as a lot of teams.
.

Chances are, though, the Jets are going to sit tight, keep Tebow, and see where they stand at the end of the season. Meanwhile, he's slipping further under the radar, looking more like a gimmicky gadget by the week.

The 'Sanchise' looked kinda crappy again today.  Tebow may not be dead IN Jeresy just yet.

Not Rex's problem any longer, - or Norv's for that matter too.

Re: OT: Jets shopping Tebow??? ...

Maybe Andy Reid will want him in Philly - build another "dream team."

The Jets are stuck. Snatchez's trade value is bupkis. Who would trade anything for him mid-season? Playing Tebow the rest of the way couldn't hurt, at least the team would be interesting to watch. And if they can crank Tebow's stock they may get a trade in the off-season.

But they have to run what they brung and they look to the draft to find another "franchise" QB.

Re: OT: Jets shopping Tebow??? ...

Sanchez isn't tradeable for 2 reasons:

1) His cap hit next year is ridiculous - think it is $15M+?

2) He wouldn't be a starter for 25+ other NFL teams.  What team would trade for him to be a backup?

The problem with drafting another franchise QB is they probably won't have a top 5 pick.  So, they'd have to basically trade another whole draft away to move up to draft that "franchise" QB.  And look what happened last time they did that....ohlord

Re: OT: Jets shopping Tebow??? ...

If they keep playing like they did this week, a top-10 pick isn't impossible. Remember that this is how the Jets offense played all pre-season.

For the kind of offense Rex says he wants to run, they don't need a top-5 QB. They need a decent 1st round guy who makes good decisions and is accurate inside 20 yards. Rex wants to be able to run, he just needs a QB who won't lose games for the team. So he may be OK looking to the draft.

And if that fails, there's always Vince Young.

Da JeJeJeJeJeJets have to much invested in Sanchez to get rid of him and Ryan in no way wants to look more stupid than he already does.  Not to mention the cap hit previously pointed out.  Sanchez did just lose the comfort of Beava Longoria recently so that could be good in that it will cut down on the media circus.  Besides,  Rex doesn't like media competition.

Then we have Teblow the QB pass-around-pack.  Hasn't been effective with Da JeJets because their offense isn't built with his skill set in mind.  The wildcat is a thing of the past.  Every team in the NFL has an answer for it.  He sucks at the pass because he can't see the field. He is lost when it comes to his receivers routes; that's why you only see him on a few specific pass plays where simple sideline routes are run.

He was great in a system built for him in college where one or two high profile players can win games for you but the NFL is the big time and you have to have more in your bag of tricks than running for 6 yards because your to slow to pick up an open receiver.

I predict Teblow is gone by the end of the season.  Maybe the Plowgirls could use him because they'll never get to a championship with Romo.  Didn't Teblow save the Broncos?  He could do it again.  After all, he is the miracle man.  Praise to the pagan gridiron gods...

Re: OT: Jets shopping Tebow??? ...

One thing I like about BB is he's not afraid to cut the chord. Well, sometimes I like that about him. If he was the HC of the Jets, Sanchez would have been gone a year ago. And if asked, he'd have just said: "He was what he was."

With the Dolphins getting their act together a bit now, Rex will be forced to do something unless he wants to end up 3rd in the division every year. And Sanchez ain't the answer. Never was. Never will be.

Signing Tebow was a huge mistake. Not that there's anything Tebow did wrong, but bringing him to the Jets was stupid and pointless and a waste of money - and of the back-up QB they cut loose because of the trade, whatever his name was again.

Tebow would whither and die in Dallas thanks the overbearing presence of Skeletor ... uh ... Jerry Jones. I can see him going to KC, though - they aren't happy with Cassel. Or Pioli.

Re: OT: Jets shopping Tebow??? ...

The Jets haven't even been using him.  All that talk about special Tebow packages and whatever, and he comes in for a single play here and there.  Now he's costing the team because they have him on the punt team and guys are running past him to block punts for TD's.  All because the Jets feel like they have to put him on the field somewhere. Doesn't matter that he's completely unprepared to play that role, and probably has never done it in his life.

And no team is going to want to trade for Tebow.  Jacksonville was said to be interested last offseason but I read recently that it was the ownership that wanted him, but the coaching staff didn't.

Jacksonville is going to challenge for the #1 overall pick and will go QB in the draft.  Why trade for Tebow when you can get a much safer option in Barkley or Smith?

Re: OT: Jets shopping Tebow??? ...

Why would anyone offer anything in trade to the Jets for either QB? Despite what Rex and their FO says, it's clear to everyone outside the Jets organization that they're going to be forced to cut at least one of their QB's at the end of the season.

This type of problem could not happen to a nicer team.
