Trevor Bauer's 2nd Pro Start

Posted: 08/05/2011 5:13 AM

Trevor Bauer's 2nd Pro Start

Pitched 3 innings for Visalia.  Struck out 6 (out of 9 outs), walked 3, and gave up 2 hits.  Unfortunately, one of the hits was a 2-run home run.  Allowed just the 2 runs.  Left after 3 innings, trailing 2-1.  Visalia went on to lose the game, 5-2.  Bauer was the losing pitcher.

Speculation is that Bauer will get one more start at Visalia, then move up to AA.

I was kinda hoping that Trevor or Cole would go straight...

to the show like Jim Abbott from Michigan or Ben what's-his-name from LSU.  Interesting how many football and basketball players can make an immediate impact but that it's so rare in baseball.

Bauer's 3rd Start

4 innings.  Gave up 4 hits and 1 run.  8 strike out and no walks.  Did allow 2 stolen bases.  Left after 4 innings, leading 2-1.  Got no decision because he didn't pitch the required 5 innings.

Speculation is that he will now move up to AA.

Heck, I'm now hearing speculation if the Diamondbacks feel his arm hasn't logged too many innings this season and the DBacks are still in the playoff hunt, he might make a few September big league starts.

I think that has been the plan since the day they signed him.  But, everything has to go just right between now and September.

Nice read on Trevor Bauer in SI: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/mag azine/MAG1189170/index.htm

On the last page, they talk about Joe Ross going to the same Texas Baseball Ranch.

Thanks for the link. It was a good read. Go BRUINS (and Bauer)!

"I just think hitters haven't seen me much. I'm not sure if it's my stuff or if I'm new," said the Golden Spikes Award winner, who fanned 203 at UCLA this past season. "I'm making improvements from start to start, which is what I look at. I am starting to locate stuff better. Tonight, I was no longer searching for my slider, which was nice. It was [breaking] later and sharper."

His next start is scheduled for Saturday in Jacksonville, unless he's bumped up to the big leagues.

1st Start at AA

Bauer's 1st start for Mobile in the Southern League.  Pitched 5 shutout innings.  Allowed 5 hits and 1 walk. Continued the problem he had at Visalia by allowing 2 stolen bases.  Pitched out of jams in almost every inning.

Left after 5 innings leading 2-0, but wound up with no decision.

Here is a story on the game:
