Maurice Jones-Drew didn't get a carry until the 2nd quarter....
Maurice Jones-Drew didn't get a carry until the 2nd quarter because..... David Garrard checked out of the running plays.
According to Jack Del Rio at his presser today.
Awesome.

When can we expect the end of the Garrard era? Because I can't wait!

At one point the instruction was, “Look, just hand it to him and let him run with the ball,” Del Rio said.
...lol

My question would be what growth has the coaching staff seen in Garrard that makes them all of the sudden allow him to audible or check plays at the line of scrimmage? He is horrendous at reading the defense after the snap...why would it be any better pre-snap? Are we really trying to add responsibilities to Garrard's plate...he can barely handle dropping back and looking at his receivers at the same time.

...lol If this coaching staff continues to allow him to check out of called runs...we have a HUGE problem. Christ...when is this coaching staff going to wake up?

As soon as we draft a QB who is capable of audibling at the line of scrimmage and actually throwing the ball. JagHombre22 wrote If this coaching staff continues to allow him to check out of called runs...we have a HUGE problem. Christ...when is this coaching staff going to wake up?

I think we all know what we have in Garrard. Hes a guy who will play 8 good games and make you think he could be a star. But the other 8 games, he completely loses it and costs the team the game. When we get our guy in this draft, things should get better.

Well, we don't have to worry about him checking out of runs anymore. Supposedly that's been taken away from him.

Re: Maurice Jones-Drew didn't get a carry until the 2nd
the quote they played on the radio this am said he was given a pass route and a run route based on coverage and they went with the pass route, later in the game it was said to just give mojo the ball im not defending dave here, but there seems to be a lot of misrepresenting the information going around, david is not the only reason this team lost, they couldnt takle to a cold, reggie nelson is horrible, i saw line backers diving in the air at guys, vince young had no pressure on him, over this is a team loss to many people didnt do what they should to blame one guy

David checked out 8 or 9 times when we played the Titans here -- yet no one spoke out and said great job. I have no issue with Jack taking the calls away from David but this going to the media --- is part of our problem. Ask Mike Pete, Ask Marcus etc...... The fact this teams seems to play great one week and terrible the next cannot be blamed on one player.

RE: Maurice Jones-Drew didn't get a carry until the 2nd quarter.
I dont like any coach or player going to the media but it happens on both sides including on this team. No one questions MJD when he does it, but when JDR does it you get ready to rip him. It happens that way with fans all the time, they let players who go to the media go unquestioned but its a big nono for coaches. I think everybody is in agreement that you cant blame this solely on David, but frankly he is a large part of the problem. When he plays bad on offense this team gets blown out and loses, when he plays well we have won this season, there is not denying that. Our defense is the other large part of the problem, Im convinced that we only have maybe 5 players worth a darn right now, and only one possibly two (Harvey) are on the Dline. This team has about a 3rd of our roster that is young and has good upside, a few in their primes, the rest are developmental or old dudes or bodies, thats why we play well some weeks and terrible others. Not enough talent.

RE: Maurice Jones-Drew didn't get a carry until the 2nd quarter.
I wish I could spend time watching the game tapes --- see the whole field not just the ball on TV. It is very hard to tell who to blame, offense and defense, even when at the game. Sure some things stand out a CB getting beat a QB missing a wide open reciever etc.... I have had the chance to watch some high school tapes with the coaches and to know what play was called and then watch the play is enlightening. The person you think screwed up may not have screwed up but instead a teammate did. All that being said in my opinion this team has not played with passion every game for the last year and a half. The quote un quote bad apples have been released ---- why are we not playing with passion EVERY WEEK EVERY PLAY now?

Its hard to play with passion when you aren't winning. Same goes for good chemistry, you usually dont have a bunch of happy campers unless you are constantly winning. I know how much you want to put it on the coaching staff and say with better coaches we'd win more, but I dont see the talent on this team. How many of our guys would start for the Patriots or Eagles or Colts? 2 maybe 3 guys? Thats why we aren't doing good, players not plays. The only guys who defy this logic IMO are Norv Turner and Wade Phillips, always takes talented rosters and gets 8-8 teams out of them.

RE: Maurice Jones-Drew didn't get a carry until the 2nd quarter.
The Titans we 0-6 and at the beginning of the game they appeared to be playing with more passion/harder than we were. In my opinion there is no reason why a "young team" that is 3-3 with many guys trying to make a name for themselves and a team would not be playing hard and with passion. Your personal pride should lead you to play hard and with passion --- the bench is a great place to learn you better be ready to play hard and with passion. Just my opinion but there is NO REASON to not play hard and with passion -- NO EXCUSES. I was in Seattle and we had no fight in us -- and it looked the same in Tenn. I can take losing I cannot take a team that does not play hard EVERY game. At your job how many times could you perform like our team did in 3 of 7 games and saty employed?

Whats the solution then Bama? It will take another couple of drafts before we are talented again, all I can say is be patient. Off topic, but after watching some of the games, defense for most teams is crap, no one is playing it anymore, its becoming the two hand touch league.

Your so negative Charlie, its the best weather we've ever had, not positive . Its good in Cali too. At this point in time, even though you, Alfie, and most of the people on this website know it and have been saying it since hte draft, I wish the FO would come out and say we are rebuilding. Maybe that would allow fans to accept losses like Sunday's better. And to be frank, although I dont agree with about a third of JDRs decisions especially lately, I dont think firing him will solve anything and might create more problems. I think JDR's hands are prety much tied with what he has to work with. That said, when he made the move to Garrard and they both got their contract extensions, they became married to each other. We know Garrard won't be here next year, maybe they start over with a new head coach and QB?
