Redskins cut Cundiff

Redskins cut Cundiff

I can't see a thread on this.  If there was any doubt, it is now removed.  Tucker is doing a great job and Cundiff got cut by the Deadskins.

How can a player fall that fast......as A KICKER. I mean, you cant even make the argument that he 1) Lost a Step 2) Lost Leg Power

Its just mind boggling.

RE: Redskins cut Cundiff

The thing that always bothered me about Cundiff, even from his first year, were that his kicks never seemed to go in through the middle, always veering off towards the left or right goalpost.  I was really worried about just the scenario we saw at the end of last season while watching him kick all last year.

I think Cundiff may have escaped scrutiny for so long because he was not put in a position to make a 40-yard-or-over kick to win or tie the game very often.

In fact, can anyone think of a game-winning or game-tying kick (with less than two minutes or in overtime) that was beyond 40 yards that he had to attempt in the entire time he was here?  I can't off the top of my head.  If memory serves, the Pittsburgh overtime and Arizona ones were very short.

Still sad to see him go down in flames. Agree with Match, his kicks were always veering, and I think it was his "record" touchbacks that gave him the pass. Oh well, at least we got a new kicker.

Kickers are a strange breed and his issues are most certainly mental.Credit the Ravens in parting ways. He could have been missing FGs for us.
We were spoiled for so long with Money Matt Stover. Hopefully we have found a long term solution in Tucker.

Ravens over paid for Cundiff because he had a strong leg and could get touch backs nearly every Kickoff. That was minimized when they moved the Kickoffs up to the 35.

I wish him well except if he is on a team kicking against the Ravens.

If he really is going through a hard time in his life, I will pray for him regardless. That kind of thing is no joke.

I wish him the best.  It's doesn't say much of someone to get pleasure of another one failing.

Billys kicks always looked 'strange' and had a hook, I sit in the endzone and half they time I always thought they were no good.  Personally I feel bad for Billy, he seems like a nice guy.

Why feel bad for him? He made 890K for being the worst kicker in the NFL this year. His whole salary for his year is guaranteed since he was on the roster for week 1.

I agree 100%.  I'm not going to go out of my way to bash the guy, but it's silly to pray for him or feel sorry for him.  As Paintball said, he got paid a lot of coin last year and I know he earned a lot before that as well.

I don't want to derail this fine thread, but is that really all you got out of watching that game?

For those that weren't privy to watchign that game, Gaither was flat out DOMINANT for all but the last two snaps of the game.  On the second to last snap he was clearly hurt, as reported by the announcers, as it was visible from the pressbox.  They should have called time out, because Gaither was completely unequipped to handle that last snap.

Any doubt as to whether he had a real back injury was completely eliminated.

Ditto what Jonboy said.

I dunno what Gaither has got goin' on, but something physical isn't right. It looked like he was having pain in his leg or whatever, but I agree that the team should've told him to lay down or called a timeout and assessed his situation (instead of allowing the D-End to just run right around him on that last play). Gaither tried to play hurt (just like he did here with one arm in that Giants' gm if I recall), but the Chargers' team and coaches either were oblivious to the situation or just didn't care... and it cost em in the end.

As for Cundiff and his situation, he seriously needs to get his head together. As many of us talked about it this entire offseason, sometimes its tough for a kicker to get his mojo back after such a dramatic traumatizing moment as was in Foxborough in January.

The guy simply got 'Vanderjagted'!

Cundiff had a good run.  Now he has more time to work on that wicked golf slice that always seem to veer (wide) left....

RE: Redskins cut Cundiff

Of course Gaither was hurt, a bowl of chips and a bag of weed(or is that a bowl of weed and a bag of chips?) is not going to get you ready to play in the NFL.

As for Cundiff, his job was kicking oblong balls through a set of uprights, he made millions doing it, yeah... what a tragic story...

In other news an old guy who won 30 million in 92 is no longer receiving checks from the lottery office. Lets pray for him.

To two of the posters who mis-understood my post.  I am taking no pleasure in Cundiff losing his job.  I wish that on no decent person.  My point was that we made the right decision in keeping Tucker over Cundiff.

Same here.  I feel for the guy.  He seemed like a cool dude, but damn did he fall apart after the AFCCG debacle.
