Apparently Bobby Rainey is on the bubble in TB...

Apparently Bobby Rainey is on the bubble in TB...

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Bobby Rainey enters camp on the bubble.  Just wondering if anyone thinks the Ravens would have interest in bringing him back if he did wind up being dropped.  Played very well down the stretch for a sub-par TB team.

I always liked him - but unless somebody gets hurt I don't think it's likely

I always liked Rainey, but if you can't make the Bucs,
that does say something . . .

Re: Apparently Bobby Rainey is on the bubble in TB...

I believe I`ve been as big a rainey supporter as any and .I`ve followed him a bit since he departed the team...

the thing I`ve noticed was bobby`s penchant for making a big play here and there....he definitely has some ability....another thing I noticed was the fact that he seems prone to having quite a few plays at rb in which he gets very little consistent yardage running the ball(much like we saw with rice last year).....maybe that could partially be attributed to the fact that tampa bay and the browns weren`t exactly bastions of offensive line play.....or maybe he`s just not the type of guy that is capable of carrying the ball 20 times a game(which I`m sure many of us always figured given his size)..he`s" like" rice(skill set-wise) but without rice`s natural power/physicality(maybe a bit more elusive)..always thought he was a situational guy at best..possibly a guy that could fill-in in a pinch without the offense having to change it`s identity....

for a guy with his lack of size and style of play,it would seem like he`d be more of a luxury to carry on a roster(he`s probably a notch or maybe two below a Darren sproles talent-wise and would be a liability in any pass blocking schemes)..........special teams would be another concern....

it`s ashamed that a good, hardworking guy with some skills and want-to like rainey falls between the cracks...but that`s kind of how his career trajectory looks from here...he does some good things....he`s fan friendly...maybe he just doesn`t do enough of them on a consistent basis to stick on a roster....

whatever happens I wish him well...I enjoyed pulling for him while he was here and got a kick out of seeing him get a little vindication and have a modicum of success with a poor tampa bay team...

g.l. bobby...

With the number of backs that could end up on the team, I don't see us having any room for him.

Also just because Rainey might not make it on the Bucs roster, doesn't mean he's necessarily a bad player. Could be that they aren't using him right either.

I am more interested in one of the 49ers running backs.

I was just curious about it given that I've never been too impressed with Justin Forsett and that Rainey did a little return work too.  I admit to having a little seller's remorse after seeing him perform well after being waived.

You're kidding, right?  Forsett isn't a three down back,
but he is a cut above Rainey

There some talk that Talifaro fits Kubiaks system better than Forsett.  Something to keep tabs on as far as the #3 back.  OR for 2 games the, back up.

Rainey was OK as a backup. I liked him but didn't see him as starting material.

That is why he was targeted and drafted.

Re: Apparently Bobby Rainey is on the bubble in TB...

My main issue with cutting Rainey was doing so meant we'd be using Jones as a returner who also happened to be our number two wideout at the time.

While I'm open to any and all improvements over Forsett I'm not sure Rainey is the perfect fit he was last year.

Bottom line... If this kid was really that good he wouldn't keep getting cut. He has already been cut by us and the Browns. Time to move on..

That's not an Rainey issue, that's a coaching and personnel issue. Clark and Stokley were not the answer. Just ask Joe.

Re: Apparently Bobby Rainey is on the bubble in TB...

as solid(on an extended basis) as our personnel dept has been over the long haul, theres some evidence of a little slippage the last couple years....

if guys like Taliaferro, brooks and Jernigan don`t turn out to be solid contributors(hopefully sooner rather than later) and one or two of these young defensive backfield guys(o.brown/Jackson/c.brown/Levine) don`t turn out to be serviceable players.....if ricky wagner is found to be wanting...Brandon Williams doesn`t show up.....then you end up grabbing washouts off the waiver wire and end up in desperation mode again this year...if this happens again ,we  have to start asking questions about our talent evaluation  people/process.......heresy,i know....but we`ll have to acknowledge the situation if we continue to not effectively address important weaknesses after a draft chock-full of talent and free agency....

lot of supposition I`m admittedly partaking in here...but I`m not an ozzie drone..i` calls em like I sees em...imo,we desperately need a solid percentage of these questions answered in the affirmative to improve on last year`s 8-8 finish....the steelers/bengals and browns are all improving.....

hope some(most) of these guys emerge as solid players(I`m already counting guys like mosely and elam as hits, even though in actuality, the jury is still out on them..you have to expect first round picks to be plug n` play guys most of the time).....

this is a very important preseason...this season could be a ringing success or a horrible flop depending on how these ??? play out........

fingers crossed....lots of questions to be answered...

btw...I hope we do better than I do negotiating these reply boxes.....lol....

gweasel, let's not put too much pressure or expectations on some of those Day-3 draftee guys or undrafteds. While its nice to give them a solid opp to make the team the odds are against them sticking, not to mention being 'hits' or serviceable players.

We are looking at some depth for many of these undrafted or low-level guys. Their path to sticking on this team and developing is via special-teams mostly. As for guys like Jernigan & Brandon Williams and such, I'm hopeful that they will become what we expect of them in due time.

As for the potential of this season being a flop, barring injury I don't see it. I think what this team needed to learn was stuffed into their skulls last season -- and that is, you DON'T EVER EVER EVER WANNA BE THE NAIL in the "hammer/nail' scenario...

and our addressing of the trenches speaks in my mind to them seeing what I saw and spoke of all last season.

We may have some growing pains, but I think we'll be fine indeed.

I`m not expecting a miracle....but in truth, given all the holes that are being filled by first time ravens(or starters..or guys needed to make significant contributions for us to get to the playoffs),theres an awful lot that needs to fall into place for us to make a playoff run...particularly given the fact that even the weakest in the division could be much stronger this year....

I haven`t heard anybody utter the dreaded "rebuilding" word so far...but if some of these guys don`t contribute in a fairly prompt manner,we could be in for a tough slog.....

just trying to be realistic....

we can revisit this after the third preseason game...hopefully,that should give us a rough idea what the starting lineups look like and whether the offense is being digested/understood by the players......I kinda like our sched.....just need to see how some of the new pieces fit....lot`s of questions to be answered(hopefully in the affirmative)...

btw...if our right tackle and center positions  aren`t  liabilities(leading to the running game improving enough to keep defenses honest),i expect flacco to have an excellent year with steve smith and daniels helping considerably.... I understand that kubiak`s offense is running game depemdent, but I have to believe the west coast offense should take some pressure off joe(quicker routes/quicker release of the ball).....

Thursday can`t get here fast enough...
