OT:Tyron Smith extends for 8 yrs 97.6 million, 110 million total

Smith signed an eight-year contract extension that will take him through the 2023 season and will be worth  $97.6 million, bringing the total value of the next 10 years (including the two remaining on his rookie deal) to almost $110 million according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Charean Williams.

ESPNDallas.com also reported it includes $40 million guaranteed with a $10 million signing bonus.

Glad to see the Monroe deal got done before Jones took a wreaking ball to the LT market

Joe Thomas signed a 8 year 92 million dollar deal in 2011 and the market stayed true. Some guys are just at that next level.

When's the last time you saw an 8 year deal? Wow. I'm assuming they made it that long so that they could push some of the guaranteed/bonus money into the later years once their cap issues get resolved.

Only if they start that guaranteed money in the later years.  It's all in the structure.

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!!!!

The situation was much different. For one, Thomas was a bonus baby and had a big cap figure at the time. Secondly, Thomas got 28.5 million guaranteed not 40 million.

The other important thing to remember is that the Browns haven't had to pay the market rate for a franchise qb (around 20% or so of the cap) because they haven't had a qb uptil this point worthy of a second contract, The Cowboys already have Romo on the roster (55 million guarnteed and 18 million AAV) and still have Dez Bryant's and Murrray deals to do.

It was also 7 yr(s) / $80.5 million not 8 yr(s) / $92 million.

Smith is worth every penny. He's like 22 and DOMINANT at the #2 most important position on an NFL offense.

Had the Cowboys held off on Romo, saved $100 million, and drafted Johnny Manziel (forget what you think of him off-the-field, on the field he balls...)

The Cowboys could have been looking at a YOUNG core group on offense of:

QB: Johnny Football
RB: DeMarco Murray
WR: Dez Bryant
WR: Terrence Williams
TE: James Hannah
LT: Tyron Smith
C: Travis Frederick
RT: Zach Martin

Could have been decent...Romo is screwing the pooch there in Dallas

Johnny is a bum. I'd take Romo over him easily. Maybe that's because of already knowing what Romo is...and I fear Johnny will be worse

Has anybody seen how young Tyron Smith is?? eek He's only 23, and he signed a $100,000,000 deal. He won't be 24 until December Even if he plays this deal out in full, he'll still have the chance to sign another monster deal if he's not extended first.  Looking back, he was 20 years old on opening day as a rookie, and wasn't 21 until December of that season.

They had him for another two years anyways. I wouldn't really have a problem with the deal for the Cowboys if they protected themselves from a financial standpoint but to commit to 40 million guaranteed is just crazy.

They better hope Tyron doesn't have some sort of serious injury because if he does they are screwed.
