My theory on how Ray Rice can still play week 1

My theory on how Ray Rice can still play week 1

I was just looking at the schedule and just realized that we play two games in one week to kick off the season. We begin with Cincy on Sunday and 3 days later host Pittsburgh. That's two games in 3 days. I think we all can agree that those games are huge. Ray Rice is our best option at running back regardless of the season he had ,last year. That being said, we all know he is going to get suspended.  Once the suspension is handed down, all he has to do is conveniently  appeal the ruling, say Friday night or Saturday evening...Its gonna take at least a week to be heard. Regardless of the outcome we would have already played two division games against our main competitors. Is this possible ?

I don't know the parameters for appeals, but suppose it would boil down to exactly when the suspension is handed out and if there is a timeline for an appeal.

We may not have the luxury of appealing a couple of days before the first game.

Pretty easy solution, though that I hope flies if necessary.

well how did the Big Ben suspension play out? wasnt his originally 6 games, then moved to 4? i also think that was handed out prior to season so i guess we have to wait and see what happens. Maybe the Ravens dont even appeal, let him sit the games out. Im guessing its gonna be 2 games anyway.

Goodell is on vacation, like almost all of the NFL, ruling should come down next week. My concern is that there has to be some basis or grounds for an appeal, unless the suspension is unrealistically long, I don't see much of a basis for an appeal....

Don't argue with an idiot;  people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

He already went to NY to plead his case after NJ pretty much let him go. Not sure if that is going to sway the VP's who handle discipline and their recommendation to Roger as to the  final numbers of games, but I say if it's only 2 , let him serve it and get it over with.

Re: My theory on how Ray Rice can still play week 1

While it indeed would be optimal if Rice could play to start the season, in reality its about the cohesiveness of the O-line. If Kubes has got his line performing well, we should be able to be relatively effective with Pierce or whoever is toting the rock. I recall in 2008 a young rook by the name of Ray Rice had to play premier reps in his opening gm because Willis McGahee was a scratch (and LeRon McClain -- a fullback who had never ever played tailback -- also contributed too). I think Rice rushed for over 100 yds that day. If I'm not mistaken I believe that's the game where Flacco scrambled for like a 40-yd TD (and the place went bonkers)...

and as the season went along that offensive unit ended up being as sturdy and rugged as any young/limited team could be (remember the classic game down in Dallas when we closed down the place? -- still one of my faves, with TWO huge breakaway TDs to close things out and Mason playing his guts out with one arm incapacitated).

In getting back to the topic at hand, if the 'big uglies' are ready to play upfront come opening wk, we've got enough overall offensive talent at all the skill spots to get thru whatever suspension Rice has to endure.

That's how I see it.

i can agree with this. If our O-Line is all on the same page, Pierce can handle the weight with another guy getting some reps until rice comes back.

The NFL does not handle appeals that way.  While it is taking longer than expected (for us, at least), the Suspension, and any appeal, will be handled before the regular season begins.

Two years ago a Giants linebacker was arrested for Domestic abuse, he received a one game suspension. If Rice gets more than that its because of all the media attention.

Did TMZ broadcast it all over the internet?

At this point I think it's more about how bad that video made the league look than the actual crime.

Maybe that's why the League is taking its time, to let the mob put down their torches.

Possibly - I do believe if the video(s) didn't exist this would be 1-2 game suspension tops

Greg Hardy was just found guilty of beating his ex girl friend.  Let see what happens there.

Pacman Jones was shown on tape last year punching  a woman, but somehow got off in court.

The NFL never suspended him, even with his past history.

Whatever the outcome, there will be a dramatic drop in the number of Ray Rice jerseys at the games. Be interesting how he comes thru it this year.

I doubt it. A couple of good games and all will be in the past
