Mellette and Hamilton waived

Per AW, I know many people were high on him. Guess rookie out of wake has impressed enough or Mellette regressed.

Being reported his knee was giving him problems early in OTA's but seemed to bounce back the last two.

It's rumored  these waivers are a precursor to signing one or two of the CB tryout players and they can sign them back later on.

I thought Hamilton was the second coming of Lawrence Taylor to some. What happened?

As far as Mellete, that's good news for Campanaro, who seems a better fit for a West Coast offense anyway. He's a better motion player and a better YAC player, small, speedy, elusive.

Wouldn't be surprised if Dallas or Indy calls Hamilton's agent.

Both were the next big thing. Neither saw the field. Strange business.

Hamilton was fighting up uphill battle as a 3-4 OLB here with Suggs, Dumervil, McPhee, Upshaw, Simon, McClellan in front of him.

Mellette IMO ends up on the PS.

There's at least one poster here who will be devastated by the news.

lol, he had both as All-pro's in the upcoming season I think...

I mean no ill will to either of these players, but it was pretty obvious neither would be anything besides deep depth at best.

In both of these cases I think it's all about the injuries.
Both were IR last year and I'm guessing not healing
sufficiently for this year.

Paulie-

I think it's about the talent level around them, and other positions of need..

They had to pass a physical to get cut.
It's talent, they have little. We have younger guys in house with more(John Simon and Marlon Brown)

Not necessarily.  They could have been released with a failed physical designation (meaning they never sufficiently recovered from last year's injury).

Or, they could be injury-waived, in which case, assuming they clear waivers, they would either have to go on IR or receive an injury settlement.

Once the daily transaction report comes out later this afternoon, the designation will be reported.

Re: Mellette and Hamilton waived

Mellette was hurt, but I also think the way he handled his knee injury last year probably didn't earn him any fans or favors.  It put us in a BAD position going into the denver game, having only 4 WRs active.  Whoops.

Then the knee is giving him trouble, and we already have Marlon Brown and we just moved up to draft Campanaro.   Bad situation for him.

In reality, they might also be doing him a solid favor.  Maybe he can get his knee right and catch on with someone with thinner depth.

As for us, our depth chart is set barring a coup, IMO.   T Smith, S Smith, J Jones, M Brown, Campanaro + ???? maybe Laquan if he can special team hard enough.  Melette's skill set was as a weaker, more injury prone, now less proven Marlon Brown.   Its was duplicative and unnecessary

I hadn't heard about Hamilton still struggling healthwise (wrist surgery last yr) but Melette's knee has been chronicled. I hope what he's going thru with his knee doesn't derail his chances of being an NFL player going forward.

It is entirely possible that one or both could be looked at again in the future. Melette basically made this team last yr. I find it hard to go from making the team 9mos ago to not being good enough to even take to training camp on a 90-man roster.

Wish both of them the best in wherever the road takes them.

I'm shocked by the Mellette release. But I admit I've been way too busy at work to keep up w injury and healing/not healing news. I salute C DiP's last sentence - I wish them luck

The move with Hamilton wasn't  a complete shock for me. I think he faced somewhat of an uphill battle.
If these cuts were ,as reported, to make room for possible CB signings for the nickle back spot, then I can understand why the move was made with Melette.

It's possible that after things settle out at corner and some other spots, we could see Melette come back. This roster is way far from being settled.

Time will tell

Mellette actually showed something in preseason last year.....seemed to have a knack for getting behind defenders and caught the ball.....

wish him well and hope he catches on somewhere...

Re: Mellette and Hamilton waived

Both were waived with "failed physical" designations. That means they never fully recovered and the Ravens do not have to now put them on IR or work out injury settlements.
