Flacco and Ravens agree to deal

He'll sign on Monday, per Jay Glazer.

I haven't been able to find a report on the Fox site, but Glazer did tweet about it.

Holy Cow if true this is a huge deal and could be very cap friendly:

Aaron Wilson @ RavensInsider

One source who hasn't seen deal points speculated Joe Flacco deal could top $125 million with as much as half of it guaranteed. We'll see.

Re: Flacco and Ravens agree to deal

Excellent!  After the numbers he put up in the playoffs - and from the NYG game on - he deserves it.

I had doubts about Flacco for most of the year, but what he did in the playoffs was amazing.  Plus, he has been a constant in the Ravens making the playoffs for a nice streak.

To me, has been more of a game manager in the past (i.e. he could win a game on occasion, but the defense was big in his first three years in maintaining the team's success), but this year - and the playoffs - was ALL on his shoulders as the defense's strength was significantly weakened talent-wise with injuries to boot.  He proved he could shoulder the load and be THE man.

THANK YOU JOE!

JLC says 6 year deal. I bet they say its $125 million but there's fluff.

At least we don't have to worry about Joe holding out in training camp before season starts. A Steeler fan on facebook tried to tell me it's a 3 year deal. Heh what does she know?

I wonder depending on this deal if the Ravens don't make Paul Kruger the next priority. I say this because there are more ILB in the draft I believe as opposed to "pure" pass rushers. We can get our ILB in the draft if need be, but pass rushers and good ones are hard to come by. We'll see.

Oh and this is great news getting Joe taken care of.

When you take into account Joe's regular season record, his playoff record, the numbers he put up in this years playoffs, the Super Bowl MVP and he is only 28....with the exception of Aaron Rodgers, what player would deserve more money in a long term contract in the NFL right now??

Baltimore has an elite QB in the prime of his career for the next 6 years....something we have never had.  Let's enjoy the ride!!!

To be precise, Joe Flacco's deal with Ravens will clock in at six years and $120.6 million, a bit more than Drew Brees' in almost every way.

If trends hold true and we have a decent O-line, the Flacco Caldwell marriage will seem like the coaching move of the year last year.

Well, if this is the case, we need to have Boldin and Jones back. We can replace McKinnie. Hopefully, we can sign more than this.

No one upset about the amount? Assume it's back loaded and I know the cap should increase in a few years. If he is going to be paid around 8 or 9 mil this year like I read, then the next 5 years will be 20 something? Seems crazy but we were backed into a corner I guess.

Don't be distracted people. All that matters is signing bonus and cap number. Rest is fluff. Odds are after 3 years we will either have to give Joe a raise or ask him to restructure.

No use in fretting too much about the size of the contract before the details of how it is structured are released.  $60 mill guaranteed is gonna be a large pill too swallow regardless though.

I'm hoping by the time this is over that the QB market will be totally different.  Flacco gets so little respect that every agent will want comparable money for a QB that has similar career numbers during the regular season.  I'm thinking/hoping that in 6 years this will look like a deal.  There will be no raise. This is Joe's payout.

Assuming he keeps playing at a high level (that is the key thing) I'm hoping he will be more in like Tom B and Ben R at the end of this deal and sign the reduced salary type contract because he wants to win.

Don't worry.  Ian will be here shortly to explain all the details of the deal and how it effects the cap and how we are screwed ..... (eye roll)

Re: Flacco and Ravens agree to deal

This makes me laugh. Jamison Hensley said Flacco doesn't deserve to be paid higher than Peyton or Brady. This makes no sense to me. Flacco is the youngest (28) QB in the league with a Super Bowl ring and is entering what everybody believes are the prime years for a QB career. While Manning and Brady will both start the year over 35. Can someone please explain why paying for QB's past there prime is better than paying someone just entering or about enter his prime that already has a Super Bowl ring.

120.6M/6 year deal for Flacco

It's everywhere online

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_...ccording-source

First reported by FOX sports.

ESPN's Clayton says Ellerbe is the next priority, followed by Kruger and Reed. No mention of Williams or McKinnie.

Flacco will make him more than the 61 million Breese made in his first three years.

RE: Flacco and Ravens agree to deal

A) even if Moore knocks down the pass and he's franchised for $14.8, Cleveland would be thrilled to sign him to an offer sheet for $18+ million a year, and he turned down 17 last year, so the Super Bowl markup is about 10% max
B) ARod will get at least $70 million the first 3 years, Ryan $65, pretty good shot Kaepernick $60+; it's not the rising cap but the young QBs getting paid that will make this more palatable within 2 years

That's what I'm hearing, but of course the structure will determine who else will be on the field.

I believe we can all be confident that Ozzie has worked more magic and we won't be letting too many key players go.

I had a long day yesterday and a killer workout.  Walked in the door and my 3 commemorative Old Bay cans had just arrived, then I turned on ESPN and saw the signing news.  Great end to the daybanana.gif

I agree.  You can't have sticker-shock over having to pay a QB who just won it all for you.  You pay what you have to pay, and move on.   And as other players get paid just above market, the deals inflate, and Flacco's will look better, just like you said.

When Eli was paid his 17 million a year, I'm sure there were NY fans and naysayers that would say he wasn't worth that after one superbowl win.  Now he's won 2, AND his 17+ million a year looks like a bargain versus Brees/Flacco as well as projected deals for Rodgers, Ryan

Don't people realize just a few years ago, people were shocked when QB's were getting paid $12 million a year?  Compensation goes up as the cap goes up.  When the new TV deals kick in, this will look like a bargain.

what will they say when Matt Ryan's next deal beats Flacco's..  That he earned it because of that 1 playoff win???

I don't know what these people ar eupset about.  Pretty soon Flacco will not be the highest paid QB must less the highest paid player..

Like any other contract, if Joe keeps on performing for you guys like he did in the playoffs then the contract is well worth it...If he s---s the bed, well you know...

Bottom line, us Steeler and other fans love it and you guys love it...Both sides are laughing it up, only difference, your side is laughing it up with a silver trophy in hand...
..
IMO, from the outside, Joe just seems to get better every year...When the playoffs roll around he steps up, and this can never be mentioned enough, you know when you start the season he will be standing and playing at seasons end, durable as he!!.

Re: Flacco and Ravens agree to deal

Yes. Ryan, Stafford, and Rodgers will likely all exceed this deal. Rodgers deserves to be the highest paid player (I think he does more for his team than any other player in the league) and his is still under 30. Ryan has similar Regular season stats (to Flacco) but just got his first playoff win. Stafford puts up huge numbers but what does he do without Calvin? Also, Stafford is some what of a injury concern and has taken his team to the playoffs once (didn't win a playoff game).

The biggest thing was getting rid of Cameron finally. 15 tds 1 int since Caldwell took over as OC. Now that that Cam-cuffs are off Flacco, watch out.

The Cam firing, guys getting healthy, and an OL coming together...Great organizational moves to help spark a SB caliber team...Hard to argue.

Caldwell and Flacco in the future we will see...One boner game in Denver has all thats transpired negatively and that was week one of the marriage...Again, hard to argue.
