Official Crow Eating Thread - Amnesty granted to ALL who man-up

Official Crow Eating Thread - Amnesty granted to ALL who man-up

Today is a day to celebrate. We're all Ravens fans, but some fans have some Crow to eat. Some fans have been ridiculously hard on certain players, coaches, front office staff or decisions that have been made.

So now is the chance to swallow your pride and own it. Have something you went overboard about and turned out to be wrong? Here is the thread to own up to it. During our celebratory period, I think it's fair to grant amnesty to those willing to admit they were wrong. Hopefully this is a chance for certain people to start fresh and a chance for us ALL to come together and celebrate as Ravens Fans.

Ravens Nation: Give us your poor, your tired, your hungry, and even those that were overly critical at times. Here, we all bleed purple. All we ask is that you admit your mistakes. We've all made them.

I will eat crow for being hard on Paul Kruger. I did not believe that Kruger was going to be any more than a situational pass rusher at best. I didn't think that he'd be able to step up when Suggs went down. The guy had a tremendous year and while he probably will leave in free agency, he is still a Raven right now. Much respect to Paul Kruger. I eat crow for you.

When I left the game after Denver spanked us at home,I thought no way in Hell DOES THIS TEAM TURN THINGS AROUND.....but it all seems astonishing, and of course as a fanatic of the Ravens, I couldn't be happier....but I think the following set the stage for this remarkable championship run:
1. firing Cam and unleashing Joe
2.the realigned OL that many posters had been screaming about
3. the return of Ray and the installation of Ellerbe as a full-timer

Congratulations...what an incredibly satisfying feeling...

Early-to-midway through the season, I thought this was a playoff team, but not a true contender. I'm more than happy to eat those words.

I always said that Flacco's ceiling was Eli Manning and the floor Jake Delhomme. After such a postseason, I mean really 11 TDs and 0 INTs?? there is no doubt that Flacco could be even better with the right pieces around him. I mean Pitta dropped a major 3rd down conversion, Boldin dropped 3 passes and Rice fumbled the ball.

But no, not Flacco, he grew up the last two months.

Re: Official Crow Eating Thread - Amnesty granted to ALL who

Your post made me think of something else I need to eat Crow for.

After that beat down the Broncos gave us, a part of me actually thought this team would be better off losing out and having a lower draft pick as a result than potentially losing early in the playoffs. It was a small part of me, but I'll admit that thought crossed my mind.

I eat crow for losing some faith after the loss to Denver.

RE: Official Crow Eating Thread - Amnesty granted to ALL who man

No crow needed - I always love my team. I may very well question personnel choices, though. I freely admit to questioning them canning Cameron so late into the season, so I'll take lumps for that, if needed.

Sidenotes for today so far:

1. I live in a rural area, and I swear, I'm not making this up...two ravens flew over me this morning going out to the car. It's crazy because we usually only have owls and hawks, and if you know birds, you know how territorial they are - that owls and hawks wouldn't just let some ravens hang around. It's weird but cool.

2. It occurred to me that Baltimore is good for 34 points in the Super Bowl. Next time they go to the big game, I'm thinking of putting money on them scoring 34 points...haha. Likely a safe bet.

during the season, i didnt think we had enough to win a super bowl. run defense was atrocious, offense couldnt get going....i thought we get in playoffs, win a game and lose.

ray announcing his retirement was the spark, no other way to put it.

As God is my witness I told my dad we were going to beat the donkeys and if we had the Brady Bunch we were NOLA bound. I have never doubted Joe but Cam OTOH got all my wrath. The Pees haters almost had me as a convert until I thought about all the stars he lost then I began to think he was brilliant! Of course I am called a blind homer by many too

I wanted us to get Brandon Lloyd last year.  We probably couldn't afford him though.  Glad Ozzie got Jacoby Jones instead.  It all turned out great.

Had they stayed with Cam Cameron, I think you'd have been right. That change was HUGE. There is no scenario where in last night's game, Cam doesn't go to a run run run punt offense when we're up 14-3. And if that had happened, the 49ers would have taken off like a rocket when they got rejuvinated by the darkness (maybe they are vampires!)

As for eating crow, I thought Cory Williams was a waste of time and space early on. It seemed like he was always getting burned. But he really stepped up.

Pass the salt & pepper. redface

Joe's the man. Pay him-whatever he asks for just pay him and keep on playing. He truly is Elite if you look at his playoff stats.

While everyone was on CP's bandwagon it dawned on me that Joe has lost as many AFCCG as CP has playoff wins in his pro career. eek

p.s. Four plays from the seven yard line and stuffed with less than two minutes to play.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!

There was a point after the three game losses that I thought if we'd ever win another game. The last time I thought that was during the 2000 season and we had just gone thru the touchdownless stretch.

Honestly, I don't think it's necessary for anyone except for a few to eat crow. We've all had our doubts at certain times in the season and in certain games, that's normal. But there's been a few people that have made it a point to come here after every bad game and shout down anyone that dared support Joe Flacco. Then of course they completely disappear when the team (and Joe) plays well. Where have they been since this amazing run started? I could accept it if they were posting during the good times, but they don't. I thought they were just eternal pessimists, but now I wonder if they're even fans.

Seriously, this has been one of the most amazing playoff runs in NFL history, and these guys just completely disappear.

Re: Calling out Joe Flacco

I literally made the statement after the Denver regular season game, right before halftime when Flacco threw the 98 yard INT return to Bronco CB Chris Harris, that Flacco may have been lost forever as the leader of the Ravens behind center. I even went so far to say that it looked like his own teammates had lost faith in him. OMG was I ever dead wrong. Wow, shows what we know looking in from the outside.

I've been hard on Flacco before. But I've also praised him at times. It was the inconsistency that boggled my mind. Sometimes looking like the guy we see now, other times fumbling and bumbling at the most inopportune times.

But I am obviously wrong. Sorry Joe. The armchair critic in me is humbled today.

Back in the summer I was also hard on the secondary that had been assembled. When Webb went down I thought there was no possible way they could compete at a championship level. The coaches know better.

RE: Official Crow Eating Thread - Amnesty granted to ALL who man

I questioned giving Flacco the big deal, but I think a lot of fans were on the fence when he regressed a bit under Cam late in the season. I'm proud of him and thrilled he has proven many wrong. For the record, I was never on the wagon to obtain Alex Smith or did I ever bash Joe. I always felt he was our QB and top 10 for sure. Like many, I just wondered what the hell was going on when we lost 4-5.

As for the critics, I have remained positive. braven happens to be on my facebook and he knows that I stuck by them and called out several of my close bandwagon friends for jumping ship too early. I never gave up on them and never will. Heart burn, doubts, and lots of gray hair yes, giving up on my Ravens, never!

I think in fairness it was those honest fans and media sources pointing out this regression and lack of passion that lit a fire under Joe. He finally had something to prove. I think the move made by Harbaugh on Cam essentially gave Joe the car keys. Joe responds by lighting up the NYG. That is why we are celebrating today IMO. Joe found his own way, and his own confidence. A different Joe this post season then any before. Not just wins or TD's, those were amazing! But unlike years past, Joe grew up and paved his own destiny as a Super Bowl MVP

GO RAVENS!

GO FLACCO!

I questioned whether Flacco would ever lead us to a SB victory.  The past years of inconsistency and poor luck made me doubt if he had the "winner gene" that a Big Ben or Brady have.  He proved me wrong and I couldn't be happier.

Re: Official Crow Eating Thread - Amnesty granted to ALL who

I've hated on Joe from his second year on. He's still not very good at a few things that irk me,  and I was definitely in the camp of getting a guy like Fitzpatrick or Smith this offseason  . My primary reason for this is still the $7 million vs. $17-$20 million argument.

That said, he's been a completely different QB under Caldwell's play calling and he played his ass off in the post season. It's hard to re evaluate my criticisms because I'd like to see what he does next season under Caldwell for 16 games, but he's made me eat crow. I'm not gonna flip flop completely, but he's definitely earned my respect and I'll forever give him a pass because he played a HUGE part in bringing a championship back to Baltimore.

Gotta admit, I had my coat on and ready to walk out the door at about 2 minutes remaining in the game yesterday.  I could not bear another loss like that.  Thankfully I stayed.  I'm now 10 years older and rocked back and forth in the corner in a puddle of urine after the game.

I must admit also, I called him Average Joe earlier in the season.  I hope that the playoff Joe stays as his average.

I've always supported Flacco and was never a basher, but I agree when he threw that pick in the Denver game at home and stayed faced down in the grass I thought..."no way is this guy the future." I said the Ravens would be stupid to offer him a 5 or 6 year contract because he was too inconsistent and at the time I still feel I was right to have that emotion. We couldn't have looked further from being a Superbowl team when we were on that losing streak. Losing to Charlie Batch and then a rookie Redskin QB in his first game who nobody ever heard of. Wish we could've had a better regular season record, but I can't complain because Flacco led a historic postseason run and became Superbowl MVP. After Brees, Rodgers, Brady, etc...I put Joe comfortably at #5 or #6 as far as being the best QB in the NFL.

Great thread, Mag!

I have myself a Top 5 list because there are a few players who have really set my nerves on fire.

1.) QB Joe Flacco
There were a few games this year that started making me pay more and more attention to Tyler Wilson. I was done. I was truly done. A 5 year vet to play like he did during some games this season was truly inexcusable. Then we did what we should've done 3 years ago and get rid of Cam Cameron. That alone changed the entire picture and gave us another extra boost through the playoffs and on to the Super Bowl. Joe Flacco played FLAWLESS football. He was scanning the field, making audibles, trusting his receivers to make all the catches, and doing it like an ELITE QB should. Joe Flacco outplayed the rookie sensation Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning on his home turf, and Tom Brady on his home turf all in one playoff run on to win a Super Bowl. If that isn't Elite, I don't know what is.
Joe, I am sorry for ever doubting you. You proved EVERYONE wrong. It was unbelievable how much Cam held you back. I will forever hate that man.

2.) CB Cary Williams
I can't stand Cary so I don't know why I'm even putting him up here but we won the Super Bowl so all is forgiven. Every single game this season, he is good for 2 things. Making a big play and allowing a big play. I don't know how in the hell he's so consistent at those 2 things but he does it well.

3.) OT Michael Oher
He belongs at RIGHT TACKLE! You hear me, Ravens? RIGHT. TACKLE. He is an abomination at Left Tackle and cost us at least 2 games for allowing a strip sack. He was solid throughout the playoff run next to Yanda and held some of the best pass rushers in check. Lets hope we can find a decent LT so he can stay at RT.

4.) TE Ed Dickson
It seemed like the Ravens receivers of old. Travis Taylor, Clarence Moore, Marcus Robinson...Those bastards would never make the simple catch but the impossible catch? Have at it! Ed made 2 key grabs that resulted in to 2 huge plays for us. Props to him for holding on to that passes that I don't even know if Pitta could've done. I also cannot blame Ed for failing to sustain a block during that fake FG. He was trying to block Patrick Willis, I mean come on...its Patrick Willis.

5.) C Matt Birk
I think every single one of us here owes him an apology. All last season, everyone here wanted him gone because he couldn't handle the point of attack anymore. He came back this year and proved to be better than last year. He is a true leader on the OL and a man amongst boys. I am so happy he was able to get a Super Bowl ring.

Re: Official Crow Eating Thread - Amnesty granted to ALL who

I think around week 8 I started a thread called "The party is over!"  I really thought due to injuries and decline at some of the talent positions, the Ravens wouldnt win another game.  I had friends that thought we should start over and let Flacco go after the season.

I never doubted the talent of Flacco.  In fact, he is a "franchise" QB,  One you can build your team around,  For every sucessfull RGIII there are a dozen flops like Kyle Boller or Ryan Leaf.  As long as you have him on your roster, you dont have to worry about a QB in the draft.  You can add to your team at other positions and not worry about QB position.

I doubted the entire team not Flacco.  What is the lesson I learned?  What do I know?  absolutely nothing.

I prefer my crow lightly breaded, thank you! I, for one,  have been mostly positive about the team and the individual players for the most part, but I have sinned against Ozzie, and for this I will eat 2 helpings of crow. I think back as far as the 1996 draft, and if Ozzie would have listened to me we would have taken Lawrence Phillips instead of JO and when that didn't happen I wanted Ozzie to take Lectric Leland McElroy instead of Ray. I should have realized the brilliance of Ozzie then, but I didn't. I have continued to question him over and over on this board, and for this I will enjoy my crowthumbup.gif

Damn dude you just cant get me outta of your head huh?? I've been hard on Oher, Birk, and Joe for good reason. Joe was VERY, HIGHLY, inconsistent prior to this run, & even after the Pittsburgh come from behind win. But i knew Joe's best chance ot show his potential was with McKinnie at LT, which is where i would judge him fairly. I didnt think Cam getting canned would make that much of a difference, only the tackles swapping out, but it did.

And i was hard on Birk, i wanted him gone (and still do to an extent, we have to allocate money to Joe) but I gotta give credit for his performance. I was harder on him than i was Joe.

We all had some doubts, that doesn't mean you quit supporting them. It doesn't mean you stopped loving them. I would argue the most passionate, the most critical love this team more. I give credit to those fans that have the balls to ask tough questions. Lets be honest, we all have crow on our face. No one on this board, unless you had a crystal ball...thought we would have a run like this. We all hoped it would happen, but many doubted certain things after losing 3 of 4. I believe even the teams confidence was down. this is why Harbs made the move. But lets be real Monday morning QB's, everyone and I mean everyone had concerns. maybe it didnt bother you as badly to vocalize it because you are not as passionate of a fan? But we were all in the "concern" camp, especially after the Denver loss. Lets not call people out and try to look all holy here people.

RE: Official Crow Eating Thread - Amnesty granted to ALL who man

I think one of the 'eating crow' issues has to do with certain posters who repeatedly (and vigorously) asserted that #5's sporadic poor play was entirely about his limitations and had nothing to do with the OL or OC. Both of those issues changed before the SB run. Flacco's improved play reflected what he was capable of with those two problems solved. The fact that these vocal and consistent critics are currently absent speaks volumes.

Edit - Not trying to call anyone out specifically, but take theravenkidd for example.  He's been really hard on Flacco, and at times a dick to those of us that supported him.  But he didn't disappear when Flacco really stepped it up, he was right here with the rest of us, excited and enjoying the ride.  There's no need for someone like that to eat crow.  But these other guys, geeze, it's like they're disappointed that they were wrong about Joe.

Uhh...not sure what you two are reading, but I specifically said that people like kidd (and incidentally you) don't need to eat crow, apologize, whatever.  You guys are all just rooting for the team, and posting here in the good and the bad times.  Once Flacco started playing well you guys were cheering him on just like everyone else.  The only people I question are the ones that only post after the guy plays poorly, then disappear when the team is playing well and winning.

You guys (or whoever) were obviously happy to be wrong about Flacco not even being in the same league as Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub, etc..., just like I was happy to be wrong about McKinnie.
