Dan Coats... You have been demoted.

Dan Coats... You have been demoted.

It's official... J.P. Foschi is now our starting TE.

Tight end Dan Coats’ problems with drops and ball security have pushed him behind J.P Foschi on the depth chart.
After season-ending injuries to Reggie Kelly and Ben Utecht in training camp, Foschi was signed Aug. 17 after he was released by Oakland.

That's right Dan Coats, you have been replaced by a player OAKLAND let go. Let that sink in for a second.

You can fool some of the people some of the time – and that’s enough to make a decent living.

I never thought I would see the day where I longed for Reggie Kelly to be healthy.  Chase!  CHASE!  CHASE!  Give me 20 Chase!

There HAS to be better options out there in FA.

As god awful as it is watching Dan Coats dropping passes the only thing worse would be watching some FA TE miss blocks and blow assignments screwing up the Bengals running game and pass protection.  The most likely reason it has taken Foschi this long to become the starting TE is that the coaching staff wanted to make sure he was comfortable with the playbook and his assignments.

Do you guys think there is some pro bowl TE out their on waivers?  As long as these guys block well and catch the occaisional pass the Bengals offense will be OK.   HOpefully Foschi is an upgrade in the catching category.

I would have had Dan Coats catching 200 balls a day off one of those Jugs throwing machine until his hands were either
blistered of he learned how to catch a ball softly..
Hands of Stone he has and a few passes in practice didnt seem to help correct the problem...

Yes, I'm a bit of a Rutgers homer (Awesome win today by the way), but I think they may already have their answer at the #3 TE position in Clark Harris. He was a great TE at Rutgers and he has the size. Some coaching up may do wonders for him.

How do other teams handle long-snappers?  Because if our long-snapper is working with the offense, he isn't working with Pyrite and Huber.

I agree.

I am not certain about every option available in FA and their injury status, but I am pretty sure that Martin Rucker was waived by Cleveland and guys like George Wrighster, Courtney Alexander, Martrez Milner, Eric Johnson, Jeb Puzier, Bryan Fletcher, and Michael Gaines are waiting to get a shot. We may get lucky adding one of these veteran TEs much like we did late last season with Cedric Benson.

If not and they decide to stick with Foschi, I really hope they decide to get Chase in there for a few snaps in the second half of the season. He may not be the best blocker, but he could certainly come in and make some big plays catching the ball on 3rd downs or in the Red Zone.  If they plan on using him next year or in the future, we might as well get our 3rd round draft choice some PT and experience in our push to the playoffs.

Coffman might be seeing some action soon?

Until Coffman can show the coaches he can block a little he'll continue to watch and learn and get stronger ...
Ive read where he was getting pushed back by everyone and anyoone in drills....

He never had to block in a three point stance before and apparently his body isnt the classic tight end mold regardless of what his listed weight is....
things should be changing as he hits the weight room but when he's ready is anyone's guess ...

Hell If you want a pass catcher then insert Henry as the fourth reciever for now....

I understand that Coffman has a lot to learn as a blocker, but wouldnt a little game time help him? Who knows, maybe during live action, he would become a more willing blocker. Under the lights, he could come out and play hungry, unlike a practice setting. With all of the unbalanced line stuff we have been running, maybe we could get him on the outside of Roland during 3rd down or redzone matchups. I just want to see the kid get a chance, I have a good feeling about him.

dont underestimate JP Foschi just yet.....He's probably the best conditioned player and he's young too..

I think CP likes him as well...
