Chief awarded Chris Chambers through waivers

he Kansas City Chiefs announced on Tuesday that the club has been awarded WR Chris Chambers via a waiver claim. Chambers was waived by San Diego on Monday.

Chambers (5-11, 210) has played in 131 games (111 starts) with Miami (2001-2007) and San Diego (2007-09). He has caught 482 passes for 6,827 yards (14.2 avg.) with 53 TDs and rushed 44 times for 373 yards (8.5 avg.). He also owns 36 kickoff returns for 811 yards (22.5 avg.). Chambers played in 31 games (21 starts) with San Diego, recording 77 receptions for 1,139 yards (14.8 avg.) with 10 TDs. He was acquired by the Chargers in a trade with Miami in 2007. He originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (52nd overall) of Miami in the 2001 NFL Draft. In 100 games (90 starts) with the Dolphins, he caught 405 passes for 5,688 yards (14.0 avg.) with 43 TDs.

The Cleveland, Ohio native was a second-team All-Big 10 selection as a junior at Wisconsin. Chambers caught 127 passes for 2,004 yards (15.8 avg.) with 16 TDs during his three-year career with the Badgers. He was a two-time all-state performer at Bedford High School in Bedford, Ohio.

Well we've got our #2WR in Bowe, our #3WR in Chambers, and our #4WR in Wade. Now we just need a burner who can return punts and kicks and a legit #1 stud and we're set. LOL

Re: Chief awarded Chris Chambers through waivers

Chris Chambers produced good numbers until he went to San Diego. What happened? Was it the coaching, did he get in the doghouse, get lazy, was it the atmosphere? He does not fall into the Engram situation because he is not quite over the hill. He does not fall into the Wade situation because he seems to have a little more talent. The question becomes who is this guy? Could it be possible the Chiefs may have found a decent player at a critical part of the season? Who knows, with Haley on the hot seat Chambers may be his Knight in shining armor.

I like it too, but is Haley really on the hot seat?

Are you kidding me dude? Bowe is a #1 WR. Not all #1 WR's have to have burning speed. Bowe is fast enough for his position.

Also, how many legit #1 WR's also return kicks and punts? ZERO!

Good effort.

Eh, I disagree that Bowe is a good #1.  I do agree w/ your sentiments about a #1 not needing to be a burner or a return guy.

Does it really matter while you have an OL that has problems blocking and a Qb who holds on to the ball too long.

lmao. why do QB's hold on to the ball to long? maybe a reciever cant get open, runs a wrong route? what would you do? throw the ball away every time you get it? or see if a wr, can get open to make a play? wow...

I guess Randy Moss and Wes Welker run bad routes and can't get open.  He had the same problem in New England.  You forget he was the most sacked QB in the NFL last year.  He is currently on pace to beat last year record. I guess nobody could get open with Matt as QB. It wouldn't hurt to give Brodie a shot.  We have nothing to lose.  Then, we can tell if that statement is true.

you are blinded from hate dude. you compare two teams that cannot be compared. you compare scenarios, that cannot be compared...you cannot compare the WR's on this team to those in new england. and you cant really compare the 0-line on the two teams. there 0-line wasnt that good but there recievers were faster and could elude, they all had more time together as a team than what this team has had. come on....

you just love to hate for the sake of hate.... just the way you are i guess...

I think he's a nice pickup for #2. I think Bowe is a true #1. He's physical and can make plays. Stays up which is a lot more important than just speed on a weak guy. It's not easy to find the ideal combination

You guys gripe when we do nothing(according to you, you know who are you are) and then we do something when something becomes available and you gripe because of what we did. I am at a loss for how bad this board has become. And to the guy who says Haley is on the hot seat, the only hot seat he is on might be his OC position. Pioli is not going to fire Haley after one season, he will get him an OC with the same philosophies, and off we go.

Simply looking at his rookie season, and last year he has been getting better. If he gets more looks, he'll be fine IMO. But of course if we go on playing like this our #1 will have to be a slot receiver ohlord

I said a burner who can return kicks and punts AND a legit #1. I never said anything about our #1 receiver returning kicks.  We just need a receiver who can stretch the field. We don't have a receiver on the roster  right now with elite speed, and that's something we've been lacking for awhile. Whether or not that guy is our #1 receiver doesn't matter to me.

And as far as Bowe is concerned, no one's arguing his talent, but he's on pace for about 50 catches and 650 yards.  That doesn't scream #1 wide receiver to me. Not to mention the fact that he's still struggling with that little thing called catching the football.

RE: Chief awarded Chris Chambers through waivers

Haley is not on the hot seat.  Anyone who thinks Pioli might fire Haley over poor team performance after one season is beyond ignorant-i can't think of an adjective that correctly displays how little you know about football if you think that is true.

Bowe is a legit 1-he is in his third season, he still has plenty of time for improvement.  Right now he is doing pretty good even in situations where he is the only offensive threat our opponents focus on.  The more he gets 1 on 1 opportunites the more likely it is he will perform at an even higher level.  Again, it's only his third season.

As far as Cassel and holding onto the ball too long-if you look at his game by game stats, as the season went on last year he took less sacks.  His sacks in the second half of the season were down compared to the first, and his yards per game steadily increased as the season went on.

Further, the man is only in his second season in the nfl as a starter.  I think it might be a little early to judge him.  This is especially true given that he didn't start in college, so he's in his second year as a starting QB period.  You can rush to judgement all you want, however, because fortunately your opinion has no relevance to the team.

Cassel has shown flashes. Yes they are rare, but so are his opportunities.  If you think about him in the context of our team, he could be playing much worse.  He is taking care of the ball which is probably a difficult task these days with the chiefs, and he runs for his life on just about every play.

Yes, we could put croyle out there but he wouldn't last 2 full quarters.  I was shocked he made it through the baltimore game.

My biggest fear is that Cassel doesn't make it through the season-this would be a huge setback especially if it was a severe knee injury.  I would actually be in favor of bringin Croyle in for a drive or two every game, just to give Cassel some recovery time.  That he continues to get up is a testament to how strong he is as a QB.

And the New England comparisons are not fair.  Yes he held onto the ball too long, but he was also asked to pass more and run a complex offense with no starting experience.  What he did was impressive regardless of the talent he had around him.

Stop calling for croyle to start, stop saying haley is on the hotseat. Croyle will get his shot someday when the starter goes down, whether it is in KC or somewhere else because no one will sign him as a starter.  Haley inherited the least talented team in football (yes i really do think we are the least talented team in football save maybe the bucs) so he's not going to turn it around in one year.
