Out of the Shadows in 2014

OUT OF THE SHADOWS

Nick Athan

With mandatory mini-camp slated to begin today and end Thursday afternoon, the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff will get their last chance to evaluate their players before the start of training camp. It’s also the last time a few players can show what they can become in 2014.

Not sure the exact times but Reid stated that their would be a walk-through in the morning and then a practice in the afternoon.

Makes sense. He doesn't want to risk injury without a contract in place for long-term security.

I think we will be a very solid team IF we stay injury free and certain players can rise up to the challenge. Abdullah was a solid safety before he took his hiatus for his religious stuff, and it seems like he is able to get back to his old self. I'm not very worried about our wide receiver situation. Our offense really picked it up the 2nd half of the year, and that last game against the chargers proved that Jenkins and Hemingway can perform against a 1st team defense. And with Ford, I wouldn't be surprised in passing situations if they dropped Hali to a DE position and had Ford and Houston rushing from the outside. Throw in Poe and anybody else in a pass rush like that and the offense will have to get rid of the ball pretty damn quick.

Getting a deal done with Alex Smith is far more important than a deal with Justin Houston. Smith is the QB and undisputed leader of the team. He has kept his mouth shut and performed. Houston has had 1 good year and is still playing on his rookie contract. Why would KC redo his deal now? It's a bad precedent if they do.
