Next years draft

Next years draft

After watching the team so far this year, what would be the priorities for the first 3 picks in next years draft.  Mine would be:

1st round:  Wide receiver (assuming one is worth the pick when we pick)
2nd round:  Right tackle   (one versatile enough to play guard if needed)
3rd round:  Wide receiver

I'm interested  to see other peoples choices. biggrin

Re: Next years draft

well, if looney pete keeps playing RW then flynn will probably ask to be traded or released. Why should he play second fiddle to an inferior qb.That being said,it will be a high pick if RW keeps playing,so i hope they pick a

QB (If flynn is gone)
WR (If one is worth it)
WR
Then just pick the best available offensive linemen
“How’s that hopey, changey thing working out for ya?"

Re: Next years draft

I think they need a WR/RT in rounds 1 and 2.  Jocko-meany is killing us.

I think the QB thing will play out as the season goes on.  Once Flynn is healthy he'll get his chance.

I could see them going LB in the 3rd unless they bring Hill back on another 1-year deal.

If by some chance we get a shot at Lotulelei, the DT from UTAH I hope they snag him.

He's a beast!

Disclaimer – This is just my opinion and I have no statistical analysis to support it.  I am not trying to pass it off as fact.  Not trying to get anyone’s panties in a bunch.  Just trying to have a discussion.

Re: Next years draft

The best players available regardless of position.

That said the team has a few areas that could stand some help. Bruno Giacomini is one tough mofo but he leaves a few things to be desired as a RT. When the best WR on the squad vs SF is Obomanu in terms of simply catching the ball and he tackles himself in the open field when wide open it's time to acquire the mega size jar of stick-um or reconsider the whole group who cost the team a W. The team needs to find a speedy big guy who can get open deep. The team may need a new WRs coach too. Trufant is close to the end of a solid career and playing out of position in the slot, Thurmond can't stay healthy so we don't know what he can do, besides you never can have enough CBs. If we had a player like either TE (Hernandez or Gronkowski) from New England Wilson might actually get a few catches from our TEs who dropped everything and didn't have a single catch against the Digits, they were 0-3. The team had it right with Winslow he was just a worn out player who didn't buy in to the team culture. Finding an exceptional weak side OLB would be nice. Continuing to add to the OLine pile to find both a dominating RG & RT would be nice.

The team can afford to always pick the BAP.

They need a WR, for sure, but not quite as badly as they did a month ago. If you can get a really great one, yes. They still need a decent OLB. Hill is keeping the spot warm, for now. They also desperately need 3 technique at DT. Almost no rush from the inside. Oh, and 4th would be a third corner who can play the slot.

Re: Next years draft

Earlier in the season, I probably would have gone RT and WR for the first two, with BPA in the third round.

Now, I'd probably go with DT in one of the first two, with WR and OLB being anywhere from first to third, depending on value.

With Tate improving, WR isn't as necessary as it was before, but it would be nice to get a high-profile WR to compete from the start.  RT also isn't as necessary since Breno's doing a much better job of not having his name mentioned during games.  The DT spot could use a little upgrade if we can find someone like Suh (sans off-field issues) or Raji at the #32 spot.  As for OLB, it would be nice to get someone to compete with Hill and provide improved depth until eventually replacing him (if a DeMarcus Ware type of player is available, he'd be great to have).
