The Rumor is.....

The Rumor is.....

The Hawks called Jacksonville about trading up today.  J.S. and P.C. are high on tannehill.  They want to move up to seven to try to take him.  I do not know the outcome of the call, but I do know they want Tannehill.

??? That makes absolutely no sense. The guy can't win the big game. Can't beat a winning team in the fourth quarter. He is all hype. I would be so freaking pissed off if they did that. Tannehill has bust written all over him. They also said they are happy with the team and will draft as it comes to them. I just don't see them going after him.I think this is all bullcrap, media hype

RE: The Rumor is.....

So far, the Hawks have talked to the Rams, the Vikes and the Jags.  My guess is, they are not afraid to move up.  Other names I am hearing alot around VMAC are Kahlil, Perry and Coples.
If it is all cannon fodder and media hype, they're doing a great job of it.  I know that the Vikings are willing to trade away the third overall to move back and get even more picks.  They have ten already, and for them, this is a total re-vamp of the team.  The Jags as well.  I have no idea if this will happen, but these little snipets are getting to ESPN, and the Seattle Times.  I don't think P.C. will take Perry, eventhough he recruited him to USC.  He has tendency to be more analytical of those he recruited because he knows them better.
If the Hawks do trade up, I think they will be targeting Kahlil or Coples.  Miami is in despirate need of many different positions, sooooo..... Seattle may want to jump ahead of them if they are targeting Tannehill.  Miami would be just as happy with either Kahlil or Coples however, if Tannehill is off the board.  Seattle may want to let Miami have Tannehill if they can get Kahlill or Coples.  While these names are mentioned often, they are being spoken softly.  That may be the true direction the Hawks want to go.

RE: The Rumor is.....

I've been watching both the Vikes' and Seahawks' rumors pretty hard (a habit that's grown a ton over the last year) and I THINK (emphasis on that, as opposed to "know") that the more solid writers still have the Vikings taking Kalil because they need to keep Ponder upright, unlike last season.  They figure they'll have a LT and QB combo that can go for the next decade.  That said, an "irresistible" trade offer could happen.

As for Tannehill...he's been dropping lately, and I don't see him with a ton of upside compared to what Seattle currently has.  I think smokescreens are getting thick in the air...

...but I also barely watch college football, so I don't even pretend to be a draft expert.

RE: The Rumor is.....

I don't like the idea of trading up because, seriously, who would we even get who'd be worth two, three, or maybe four decent to really good players?  It seems to me that there are plenty of guys who are really good who have a very good chance of being there at 12...and even later.

Now, I guess we could make a case for Richardson, Blackmon, or that cornerback, but those positions, along with OL, don't seem to be needs, even for depth...as long as guys stay healthy.  There will also be plenty of other guys in their positions later in the draft who will still be very good choices.

At 12, if Coples is gone, there are a lot of other very good defensive linemen and linebackers who will be available, and we could trade back to still get any number of them.

RE: The Rumor is.....

Tannehill is not an immediate impact player for sure.  It's going to be hard for fans to take knowing that they have to sit him for the first year.  It's almost like a wasted first round pick.  Any team that's looking for a QB to start, year one would have to skip Tannehill and go directly to Weeden, who, IMO should go high second round.  Tannehill should honestly go in the late second to early third, but That's not what will happen.  Too may teams, have in the past skipped on Qb's in the first because they were too expensive.  Now, with the salary re-alignment per the new CBA, all those teams,( Seattle included ) are QB shopping.  I really don't think that Seattle should be shopping QB's that hard because of the QB corp already signed.  Between Jackson, Flynn and Portis already here, we should have the starter already aboard.  I would think that the Hawks should be looking for a blue chip pass rusher.  Kahlil, Coples or Perry should be who I would be thinking of looking at, if I were trading up.

RE: The Rumor is.....

It doesn't seem to me that we should trade up to get Perry because no one seems to expect him to go higher than like the mid-20's.  We could trade back and pick up several other selections to still get him.

As the OL goes, even with Carpenter possibly not being ready, we'd still have Okung, Lutui, Unger, Moffitt, and Giacamini starting with Omiyale (or whatever it is) and McQuistan in reserve.  Where would Kahlil fit?

The quarterback situation is as you say, Alum, and it certainly doesn't appear to be a pressing need.  What we should do is get someone later in the draft to compete with Portis and develop for later.  We don't need to waste a pick on a position that's really rather deep for a project who won't be able to help within the next few years, while we let our vets play.

RE: The Rumor is.....

The latest scenario I heard was Mark Barron if we stay at 12. Is that just a smoke screen to get phili to come up & give us quality compensation? I heard that rumor a month ago but dismissed it with a laugh. Pat Kirwan said it today & they mocked Barron to us. Gonna be interesting.noidea

RE: The Rumor is.....

I've heard a lot of good things about Barron, but I'm not sure what to think about drafting him.  A couple days ago, I read something (can't remember who the author was), and it said we should consider taking Barron because of the value.  It also suggested we use him every down other than first, so we'd have him, Thomas, and Chancellor out there almost all the time.  I guess, basically, we'd be getting him to play middle linebacker...minus run-support on first down.

RE: The Rumor is.....

I think they would play lots of big nickle with all three on the field. In this day and age of the offense creating miss matches with athletic TE's & such it would be an interesting concept and we would have the great players in place to pull it off. We will find out in 24 hrs.

LOL...boy we where all fooled...they didn't even pick a guy on even one of like 100 mocks, nor did they pick a guy on some top 100 lists.
