Lacey fined $10,000 for TD Celebration

The NFL is absolutely ridiculous on this one!  That's a lot of cash for an undrafted rookie!

My passions are Colts & Rams football, Lakers basketball, Oilers hockey, and Padres baseball...but my heart bleeds Orange & Blue Illini!

Wow, Chad Johnson did the samba with no flag. Mike Wallace dove into the endzone with no flag.

I was totally shocked when he got flagged.  I am amazed that he got fined.  This is about as bad as the NFL telling our kickoff coverage we could not clunk or whatever it was called a few years ago before we would kick off.

Anyone know how to set up an online petition?  I would be happy to sign it - heck I bet we could get fans from all the teams to sign a protest petition for a fine that stupid.

I agree Valcour, we need to petition the league about this, look at the comments from around the league in the article listed above.

I would hope the wealthier players of the team will chip in and pay this for him, he is young and has a lower salary that most every player on the team. Poor guy!

Go Horse!

Sportsmanship is a big issue with me.  I've completely lost all my desire to try and explain how important it is to those who don't get it.  I fully support the rules that attempt to hold a retreating line in this area.  Our society and it's culture are hanging in the balance, but so many of us are so stupid and miopic that the obvious blurs into crap like, "The NFL stands for the No Fun League."  Someone has to fight for these values.  That is what the NFL is trying to do!  However, I saw what Lacey did and I find the initial ruling on the field and subsequent fine to be not only bizarre but counterproductive to the overall goal of supporting the belief that sportsmanlike behavior must remain an active process.  Whoever came up with this ruling should have to explain himself in a public forum and then stand before us where we could kick his freaking a$$!!! .....

                                                                             ....FLAG!!!

I wish they would have told us that.  Our special teams clunked a lot over the last several years.eek

I think 'crunk' is what you were going for?

Does anyone else remember when they told Vanderjagt and Hunter Smith they could knock helmets after a made field goal because it was a preplanned celebration?

I agree with Advanced32 however.  I don't want to see long celebrations with video replay of it in the NFL, so there has to be a measure of prevention, and this is just an unfortunate fall-out from that, and one the league should have avoided.

Instead of a petition, everybody who thinks this is terrible should just send Lacey $1.  That should about cover it.

That is just like Dallas Clark being flagged and then warned to discontinue the leaping chest bump that he brought from Iowa (I believe it was an Anthony Herron brain child, Hawkeye may know the true origin better than I). The league sure did a great job of controlling that one didnt they? Now just about every player in the league does that without as much as a second glance. It amazes me what the NFL finds acceptable and what silly little things can get you at $10k fine.

Not only that.... I remember seeing Mcnabb do it all the time that next week and the rest of the year and they never even looked his way.

Yep, we're about the only team in the league that doesn't do it.

It smells of east coast bias to me.

Another poster said "It doesn't seem right, but it appears the NFL wants players to celebrate only in certain ways."

I agree, and those certain ways appear to be while wearing a Patriots or Steelers uniform.

In 5 years the UFL will overtake the NFL in popularity because of this garbage.

Are you serious? He shouldn't have been flagged, let alone fined.

Anyone notice the clip just now of Austin Miles scoring a td in the Dallas game? Caught it, danced around for a second, dunked it over the crossbar, ran a circle around the goal post then jumped into two teammates' arms. And that wasn't a flag???

Rule is so stupid.  Lacey went to ground automatic flag.  You can dive into End zone - no flag.

Everything Miles did stayed within the vague rules.

The fine is what pisses me off.  You would think judgement would apply there.
