WareD94 annual season prediction thread

Man!! Where did the Summer goeek  Hope everyone had a great one!! Can you believe that in less then 2 weeks the 2014 NFL season begins. Just got my NFL ticket probably for the last time but anyway on with the prediction.

Let start with the leader of the team Tony Romo.

I think Romo is a good quarterback but hes no Peyton Manning-Drew Brees or Tom Brady who will consistently put up great numbers and scores week in and week out. Some weeks Romo will look like Brees then the next week hes gonna look like Eli. I can't put my finger on Romos personality but its just something about it that stops him from truly becoming a great q.b. Too inconsistent to be counted on to put up the points we'll need to win a lot of games.IMO. Romo just seems like a surfer on holiday without any cares at all sometime. I could be wrong on this but that s how I see him and I think it rubs off on the teamnoidea

Grade B-

Murray and his running buddies....My starter Is Murray.. I have Williams as the 2nd back as of today hes clearly the best backup for me with Dunbar third and Randle looking in. I have trust in all of these guys but for me Murray and Williams are clearly the top two with Dunbar and Randle fighting for 3rd and 4th spot. Don't know if they'll keep a fullback but happy with any of the 2 now fighting for the one spot.

Grade B

Wide receivers..No problem here but who and how many is the question. Bryant-Williams-Harris- definitely shoe ins. I think Street makes it and maybe Beasley. Newsome and Bryd probably to the practice squad.

Grade A

Offensive line...So far a complete disappointment for me. Romo has been getting hit hard and often the few times hes even been in there. I think these guys have been reading the press clippings and think they are better then what they truly are. OL coach need to start kicking some arse and getting these guys going. IMo

Grade C

Tightend...Witt and the Boys in here have it going great! Besides wide out this position is one of the good spots on the team. One thing i'd like to see em get better at is run blocking but besides that I'm happy with Witt and company.

Grade A

Defense!banghead

D-line....All of them SUCK! I have NEVER seen defensive linemen being completely dominated and blocked on every play! I have never seen so many guys on 1 team that can't shed blocks then get plowed back 5 yards off the line of scrimmage every play. No physical makeup at all. No passion at all. Every  O-line just smacks em and backs em down the line of scrimmage at will. Paper thin with no man up heart at all..pathetic...

Grade...F!

linebackers...i like what I saw from Carter who I think should be in the middle.IMO. Hitchens has shown some spark at times and that's about it for me. This group is uninspired and soft too. The opponents running backs run right over them and most tackles have to be made by the safeties.

grade D-

safety.....This spot has been better but still a far way off from where I'd like to see it. Wilcox seems to be coming on somewhat and Church stays stable despite still bad tackling and coverage at times. Don't really like any of the other safeties on the squad right now.

Grade  C

Corners...could be a decent group here once the Scan Man gets back. Carr definitely needs a big season for the money hes making! Claiborne could be a factor if he can play and stay healthy! Patmon is making a run for the team and the rest are suitable but I think you could maybe do better on a waiver pickup.

Grade C+

Kickers....arguably the 2 best guys on the team! Grade A+

Special teams...not too mush special about these guys not including Harris and the kickers....Grade C-

Coaching as a whole
Garrett...grade F! rent  and train a coach needs to go after this year.IMO. Garret is a NO head coach! his teams continue to look lost! He looks lost and not unable to change the toughness or direction of this team. IMO.this was an experiment gone bad by the GM!

Marinelli...So far I haven't seen any change for the defense! He and Monty  are making free money here too. The defense is weak- uninspired and just plain bad. don't see any of the toughness his former teams had. Grade F.

GM! Jerry and Stephen.. I have a sick feeling Stephen could maybe a worst GM than Jerryfrown Grade F---!

Well that's the grades now for the prediction....
Don't see any reason to be optimistic this year...SORRYredface The same problems that has plagued this team for the last 4 or so season will continue to destroy it. injuries-bad play-bad coaching and questionably drafting. This team is bad with the starters so if you add in any injuries it gets twice as bad because its no quality backups to be had minus wide-out and running back

The way I see the season going is 7-9.
And that s being very gracious! No need to name call OR cat call. you disagree just state why. This is just MY OPINION! Nothing written in stone. Hope I'm wrong and they go 16-0. But I just can't say," man, that defensive line looks as good as Seattles. Or even good! Its just plain bad so why not say it! I do feel for the team because the leadership from top to bottom is nonexistent. If the NFC East is as bad as I think 9-7 could be in play but I'm staying 7-9!

I say we get five games in the division and five games out. The last game of the season against the Redskins we are resting our starters for the playoffs because the game will mean nothing.

Re: WareD94 annual season prediction thread

overall not bad.

I think you are being too hard on the oline after 1 below average outing in the preseason. The qbs were upright in the first 2 games.

The dline and linebackers are both trending F for me. Would like to see what they look like with Melton, T Mcclain, and maybe Brent at DT and that could push that unit up. R McClain needs to return to form for these linebackers to have a shot not to be the worst linebacking unit in the league.

Think the secondary is also around a B when Scandrick comes back.

I think the win range is 6 to 9. No injuries to key players would push them towards 9. An injury to Romo early and this thing falls off a cliff.

Still way too early to make predictions. Especially on how the defense will turn out.!
By week 4-6 we'll have a pretty good idea of how the season will turn out.
Unless,Spencer and Lawrence both come back and the defense has a miraculous turn around.
But anywhere in the 7- 9 win guess is a pretty safe one.

7-9! This I have FAITH inwink

Jerry hopefully will burn the midnight oil to find a OL- DE-DT-LB and special team help type guys. Defense I think is gonna be by committee each week and you're probably gonna need a baseball score card to keep the line up. Also IGGY23 you bring up a good point. I hope you are right, man, even tho at this time I'll have to disagree. But I think injuries being dodged they can get alot better as the season goes on. They too need to get and be more physical.IMOnoidea

I'm giving Martinelli a pass for couple reasons........his first year and most our D players average with little or no starter ceiling. I hate to say this but IMO Martinelli is simply riding out the last year of his contract here. Remember we denied the Buc permission to talk to him. Fired Kiffin and made him DC. Regardless of what happens, I think he's a goner after this season, refusing to sign a new contract with us for anything other than head coach.

I think you made a good point herewink I think even Marinelli even believes deep down that Garrett is NO head coach and this team is going nowhere with his leadership. Obviously, if he wanted head coach,of which I would of said no too if I were Jerry, We need a great vet coach or great college coach .IMO..Obviously a GM too,,,sonoidea

Also IMO this is very fragile team. Meaning if we get off to a bad start, we could a season similar to one when the players quit on Wade Philips ( how ironic that would be ).  Not a lot vocal leadership outside of Witten and Dez in locker room if things go bad. But here's where it get crazy..........if we beat the Giants and Redskins within the first 8 games, we can be 2-6 at the halfway mark and STILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS by winning our last four divisional games. So even off to a really, really bad start, we still get in playoffs if we  don't fall apart.

You can always count on Doomsy for a good entertainment thread.

How exactly do you hand out grades for players/positions when the season hasn't been played. Grades are handed out after something happens. Lol. Who knows, maybe you're on to something. Maybe we should hit up Mel Kiper Jr and the gang and start telling them to do their draft grades for each team before the draft happens.

Pretty funny post.

At least  FOOTBALL is BACKtongue

I have a hard time taking anything you post seriously, but in this case it's obvious you put a lot of thought into it.  Whether I agree with your assessments or not (more on that in a bit), you've earned a kudos for making a genuine football post.  And while I, too, think it's early to be making predictions (especially if they're based strictly on what you've seen in the preseason), I'll offer a respectful rebuttal of sorts.

Disclaimer:  At the six-week mark of the schedule, we could find this all moot and void.  So much will happen between now and then that will either confirm or crush the opinions in this thread.  So, on to the subject matter at hand---

Your assessment of Romo is contradictory.  I don't see how someone who is marked with inconsistency can grade out anything other than "C".  I, for one, think he's every bit as consistent as any QB in the league.  By that I mean he has his great days, and his poor days, and a whole bunch of "pretty good" days.  He's the reason this offense scores like it has.  He's a solid "A", dropped to an "A-" because of his occasional brain farts.

I think you're right on the RB, with one exception.  Dunbar is not the backup now, not will he ever be.  He's a "change-of-pace" back, and will be used entirely different that Murray is used.  I do think Ryan W has earned the backup TB spot.

WRs---as you call them.  Bryant, Williams, Street, Beasley, Harris.  I think Harris is lucky that he's such a great special teams player.  Otherwise, I could easily see him released.

TEs---good call.

OL---He's a major source of disagreement for me.  I think you've based your entire assessment on one subpar performance (Miami).  Aside from Saturday, the starting five have been outstanding, and at times, dominant.

DL is not as bad as you characterize, either.  We haven't seen T McClain or Melton.  I believe they will anchor the interior rather well.  Where we'll get in trouble is on the outside, or if one of the DTs goes down.  Their grade can only be an incomplete right now.

LBs worry me. as does the secondary (not as much, however).  BUT---as a unit, their success will rise and fall with the DL.  Bruce Carter has played so much better than people are giving him credit for, and Durant has been the textbook definition of "solid".  CBs should be okay (yes, even Mo) with a modicum of help from the DL.

Honestly, I can see anywhere from 5-11 to 11-5.  I think we split the non-division games.  Then we could easily sweep the divisional games, and we could just as easily get swept.  It will all come down to the defense, which I think will be better when all the smoke clears.
