Mediocrity has caused apathy....

Mediocrity has caused apathy....

I am finding it very difficult to summon any level of positivity or excitement for this off season and upcoming season.  I have historically counted down the days of summer until camp starts.  I still love football, but I simply am losing my passion for this franchise that I grew up watching and loving.  Anyone else finding themselves very blah about this organization right now?frown

I look forward to every season. I've done it since the Cowboys came into existence so I kind of have that ingrained in me after all these years. It's been a hell of a ride and it's not over because they are still playing.

Re: Mediocrity has caused apathy....

I am chomping at the bit for this season to begin.  I've read every single report of every single OTA practice.  That's how football-starved I am right now.  If you can't summon the energy to be excited about an upcoming season, then I have to question how much of a football fan you really are.  I was excited every late June/early July even in the Campo years.  There's absolutely no reason to feel negative until there's something to feel negative ABOUT.  Unless you're just a generally miserable and negative person to begin with, that is.

Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!!!

Re: Mediocrity has caused apathy....

I just don't see the point in not being excited for an upcoming season, especially with how the league is anymore. Every season is different. You never know what will happen. You can certainly speculate all you want, but its more difficult to predict how things will go than it used to be in decades past. Do I expect Dallas to contend for a Super Bowl this year? Nope. Do I expect them to do any damage in the playoffs? Not really. But I'm certainly excited to watch them potentially prove me wrong, because I do think they've got just as good of a chance at the playoffs as any other team in our division.

Nothing wrong with this. especially in light of our recent seasons. you can look forward to the season without any real lofty expectation because jerry hasnt given us much to look forward to in the past.

This year I am optomistic that we will have good health and perhaps get pressure on the QB. The defense cant be any worse and the addition of Martin should help.

It just cracks me up that others on this site like to chime in that you are not a real fan or question your fandom like they have the SOP on how to be a dallas cowboy fan. If your on this site as much as most of are and especially this time of year chances are you got silver and blue running through your veins no matter what your posting style is.

I have excitement but my expectations are tempered looking at our schedule. If we end up in the playoffs it will be an unexpected bonus. If we win a game thats even better but each sunday i root for the cowboys.

But just because i dont pump sunshine out my arse does not mean i am not content with life and negative. I am very happy. I am just realistic as to where the cowboys are in relation to the rest of the league.

I totally get where you're coming from. If you have a life and there are elements that are competing for you attention, as many of us do, it's pretty easy to find yourself putting a team like the Cowboys on the backburner. Not because you don't love the team, but because the season feels predictable. You can still root for them, but you find yourself in a position where life's other offerings simply take precedent.

That being said, I think the cure really is just the team winning. If this team showed marked improvement, you see something less ordinary or the hope of a broken trend and they'll take up a little more space front and center.

I think if you're passionate about anything that finds itself mired in mediocrity, you're bound to feel a little apathetic. Self-preservation, one might say.

I would be a bit more optimistic if Lee was healthy and we had two NFL  quality starting safeties. I have been preaching for years that to fix the Cowboys you have to fix the defense. Not sure it is any better than last season?

With that being said I am always looking forward to getting the show on the road.

I'm always excited about the up coming season, how can you not be? Good or bad, I watch my Cowboys. I was as excited about watching Dallas under Dave Campo as I was under Jimmy Johnson and that's the truth.

I am also realistic and do think we are heading towards a rough season, but that still doesn't mean I don't want to see Dallas beat NY, Philly and Wash......cool

I'm excited about the upcoming season! Any given year can hold true as it does for any given Sunday.

Hell, we could be 1-14 going into the last game of the season and I'd still be excited for the upcoming game! Disappointed in our record of course, but still hoping for 2-14.

Football season is my favorite time of the year.  The months fly by when its here and they drag when its not!

No apathy here. I'm ready for some football!

Cowboys ain't going nowhere. Good excuse to BBQ, drink beer, bytch whine and moan on how great they would be if we were running the team.

Re: Mediocrity has caused apathy....

I will never lose my passion. It started in the late 70's early 80's. 3 title games no Super Bowls. Then the years of mediocrity followed by downright suckage of 1-15. The highs of the early mid 90's and the dynasty. And back to where we are today. I look forward to every aspect of each football season. That will never change. If we're not successful this year there's always the next and so on.

Wait, I'm confused.

"Cowboys ain't going nowhere..." ---> "Cowboys aren't going nowhere" ----> "Cowboys are not going nowhere"

Double negative.

Are you trying to say you think that the Cowboys are going somewhere this season?
