I don't understand what there is to be so mad about? noidea

We all knew this was coming. He certainly isn't the first player to skip OTA's either. Theres a decent chance that it was money related, and if thats the case, I'm fine with him doing whatever he felt he had to do to try and support his cause. I know they're two completely different caliber of players, but our beloved Emmitt once did the same thing...into the season.

Besides...it our backup QB.

Re: Orton at Camp

My fear is that he really wants to retire but doesn't want to give back the money so he will just show up, go through the motions, and hope to get cut.  Personally, at this point, I want Weeden to be the backup.  I was hoping he would never show up and give back the money.  Now, he is going to take reps away from Weeden.  I hope Jerry and Jason don't slow walk the situation if he shows up with a poor attitude and plays horribly.  I hope, after what Ratliff did, that they quickly file a grievance when it becomes obvious he is trying to get cut.

No way I would waste any snaps on his ass........IMO Weeden should be 2nd and put his ass at 3rd string. Rather prepare a player I KNOW is all in for next couple years than a guy just here to collect his check.

Re: Orton at Camp

Well, if Orton does in fact want to come back mainly due to not wanting to give up any money, then I say Dallas would be best served to go ahead and take the financial hit and trade him to a team like Jacksonville or Cleveland who could use a veteran QB to help aid their recently drafted young QB and get a draft pick in return (may be able to steal a 5th or 6th rounder).
Go with Weeden as the primary back-up.

2014 cap hit $4,377,500
2014 dead money $3,382,500

Net 2014 savings if traded $995,000

That's probably why it's seen as different situations, because they are different levels of players-  I presumed with the year Emmitt held out, he was an restricted free agent, who Jerry thought for sure he would be forced to match the contract to keep him ( but very surprisingly no team thought to act because they were certain Jerry would so)  Emmitt outperformed his contract to have a right to be the highest paid back,.... when has Orton come close to outplaying his contract to be one of the highest paid "backup" QBs to think he has a right to hold out ?

Re: Orton at Camp

This is the same qb that came in last season when Romo got injured and played really well in the final game to give us a shot at winning, and now you all want him gone?

In favor of Brandon Weeden? OH YEAH, THAT'S A HUGE UPGRADE???? Did any of you see him play last season?

And with Romo coming off back surgery?

That ditch is Boss Kean's ditch. And I told him that dirt in it's your dirt. What's your dirt doin' in his ditch?

My take? His heart isn't in it. He knows he'll never be a starter in the league. He'll probably get very few plays during the season. He probably hates going through another TC when he knows it's getting him no where.
Problem is. He'll give up too much money to retire . So he'll do what little he can to get as much of that paycheck as possible. Sucks for the Cowboys. But there doesn't seem to be much of a way around it.

Exactly......two entire differently situation by a wide margin. Not sure what LeVar is thinking with that statement (LOL)

I'd be willing to bet this is what will happen.  He shows up, sucks donkey ba**s and gets cut at some point during TC.  Then, once he is beyond having to pay back his pro-rated signing bonus, latches on with a QB-needy team and his play picks up considerably.

Eff the guy.  If I were Jerry and the above happens, I'd keep him as the 3rd QB and have him run the scout team.  He'd come to every meeting, every team function, every practice known to man.  Hell, I'd have the dude replace the jugs machine for Dez to save on electricity  If Orton doesn't want to play, or doesn't want to play for the Cowboys, he should be a man and return the money he didn't earn.  Nobody held a gun to his head and forced him to sign the contract.

Re: Orton at Camp

He should be #2 because he's better than any other QB we have - and that's not up for debate really. He's a professional and has been a professional his entire career. He will come in and work hard. My gut says he wanted to retire because that loss probably left a really crappy taste in his mouth.

'I don't have an answer for it.' - Wade Phillips when asked about his teams losing performance vs. the St. Louis Rams on 10/19/2008.

Exactly why his ass would be 3RD STRING  if it was left to me.......

I saw that game.  The eagles laughed and covered deep giving them nothing but short dumpoffs because they knew he couldn't beat them.
