Will ND ever play in a Thurs night game?

Seems its becoming more and more common. Obviously they will never play a home game on Thursday night, but more and more big programs/conferences are playing on Thursday. Its no longer just MAC teams.

LSU/TA&M
FSU/LVille
Auburn/KSU

all play on Thursday night this year

ND already has played a Thursday night game before. September 5th, 1996 against Vanderbilt. Won 14-7.

I don't see the point. Let Boston College or NC State play on Thursday. ND is made for Saturday.

It would be cool If every couple of years we played a game on Thursday night.  The energy for those games Is CRAZY!  The fans know the entire nation has their eyes on that game on that night.  I think one of the reasons Is a lot of colleges do not have class on Fridays.  Im not sure If ND has class on Fridays or not?

Meh. It doesn't seem like something suited for Notre Dame. We get plenty of eyes on us playing in prime time on Saturday night. I don't think we'd get all that much more attention on Thursday to justify the short practice week and recuperation time. If they did it after a bye week, then maybe it's worth a shot at least once.

Only if it's Thursday night in Blacksburg..... The energy there is nuts and to have ND go in and suck the life outta them fans would be Epic .... Almost biblical.

Not as long as Thursday night is must see TV on NBC. They aren't preempting The Cosby Show, Seinfeld, Cheers, and Will and Grace for ND football.

We can play on Thursday nights with our new turf field, mega huge jumbo that dwarfs TD Jesus , unies that make Oregon look like they are from the Roaring 20s, and free flowing beer for everyone. What a scene. Of course, no one would attend any Friday classes and almost every working person will be calling in sick on Friday. I say we go back to Noon starts on Saturday.

The 90s were awesome!

I'd be down for Thursday night if I was a buck wild Thursday night partying college kid. Which I was.

The answer is "No". If its a home game. The school and local economies boom on Saturdays.

The Thursday night games are a must for small schools. It's the only TV money and times they can get. People will watch Bowling Green or San Jose St on Thursday... Because that's all that's on. 85% of the people who attend these games are locals.

Notre Dame... I bet over 50% of fans are coming from out of town for the game. That's not happening on a Thursday night. We have all the TV money we need.

I think a Friday night would be better than Thursday night. Then the students, professors, admin wouldn't have to worry about class the next day.

Any non-freshman student who is taking a Friday class is a sucker unless they absolutely have no choice.

They hope to avoid it, but realize it might have to happen for a road ACC game at some point (per Swarbrick)

And ND opened as defending champions in the Meadowlands against Virginia, 1989, Thursday Night, Kickoff Classic

I'm glad Swarbrick is trying to avoid that. Throws the team out of rhrythm, and that isn't good. If they must play one, then I hope they can work it out  for the first game of the season, or after a bye week. Any other time, and I want a bottom-dweller D-1 team the following week.

Re: Will ND ever play in a Thurs night game?

Yeah, I'd put the over/under for total Thursday games played between now and the end of the current playoff format (Keeps ND as a satellite ACC member) at 1.5

In other words, I think they'll play in Blacksburg once, and on Thursday. A second is possible, but I doubt it. They'd likely negotiate out of the second one.

One on Thursday in Blacksburg would be cool and a great setting for ND. Other than winning it is really, really difficult
