Maybe Cutcliffe will be the next Spurrier.  I don't like Spurrier, but I do have an awful lot of admiration for his accomplishments.  Even Florida was a joke before he arrived.

Thing is Cutcliffe's relatively old.  He'll be turning 60 this year.

Kliff Kingsbury at Texas Tech is 34.  He might have a shot a nice long career.

I'll go with Kirby Smart.

His time is coming.

Re: who is the next super star head coach

He's in charge of little but watching his overrated boss manage a bunch of five-star studs.  He's never been a HC, and all of his FCS experience has come at places that make ND look like Purdue talent-wise (FSU, LSU, Georgia, Bama.)

I'd put him at the top of the list of most likely flops.

Granted, if he holds out for one of those cushier jobs, he may do just fine.  But if he tries to prove himself at a "real" job, he may be in for a rude awakening.

See that's the thing...

He's had opportunities to bolt, but he's hung around. I think he is holding out hope/possibly expecting to be named the Bama head coach once Saban moves on.

He's young, energetic and a good recruiter. You can certainly make the argument that he isn't in charge of much, BUT I also think he is a pretty bright guy and at worst, I think he has likely seen/learned enough simply from being around Saban to keep that machine going.

Charlie Strong is the next Urban Meyer. Has David Shaw reached the level of super coach yet?

Would UGA take him If they get rid of the Richt?  There Is a connection there.  And I agree.  My other guess would be Charlie Strong.  He could seriously build Texas back to a powerhouse In a matter of a couple of years.

Re: who is the next super star head coach

I think David Shaw needs another three years of evaluation before we start tossing that kind of compliment his way.

Harbaugh built that program and paved the way. Shaw has obviously done a pretty good job this far, BUT, let's see if he keeps it going with his players.

I personally don't think he's a great coach. I don't think I think he's as bad as Seattle thinks he is, but he has benefitted from USC being on sanctions and UCLA going through a down period...not to mention Cal completely going off the tracks.

Let's see how he does now that USC is on their way back and UCLA is a legit threat.

I think I'd argue that Strong has already arrived...but, I suppose that since he'll ultimately be judged by how he does at Texas he's fair game.

He could make them scary good...

Alright, here is a question and some of you might not like it. Is BK part of that super coach club?  I realize he has won everywhere but IMHO, he has not shown super status to me while at ND for several different reasons. First of all, BK and his staff needs to lock down these top verbal recruits. Our depth cannot continue to take those kinds of hits. What do you all think?

Re: who is the next super star head coach

Smart is probably the highest paid AC/Coordinator in college FB ($1,280,000). He makes more than some HC's. So for him to move to a HC slot, he'd either have to take a pay cut to a lesser school or hold out for 1 of the top tier schools willing to pay $$$ for an unproven HC.
Or as you suggested he's holding out for Saban to retire & take over the Bama job.

Smart makes either a little more or right at the same as BK.

Re: who is the next super star head coach

Well, considering he has won at the highest level everywhere he has been (track record), took ND to the championship game in his third season, I think he is on the cusp, He needs ND to become a perennial ten plus win a season team.

I do not think you can blame BK and staff for loosing a verbal or two a year. I think the problems lies in the sales pitch, and not ND sales pitch, guys pitching recruits to flip on ND.

I'm gonna say DeReuyter moves onto a Big Time program this year and maybe Justin Wilcox unless UGA opens up then Smart is gone.

My guess the big jobs this year will be Florida, Virginia, and Illinois

Head Coach
Brian Harsin - Boise State
Blake Anderson - Arkansas State
Craig Bohl - Wyoming
Rod Carey - NIU
Pete Lembo - Ball State
Dino Babers - BGSU
Tim DeReuyter - Fresno

Assistants
Kirby Smart - Bama DC
Pat  Narduzzi- MSU DC
Justin WIlcox - USC DC
Brett Venebalas - Clemson DC
Randy Sanders - FSU OC
Scott Frost - Nike U OC

Re: who is the next super star head coach

Can't believe there are so many votes for Charlie Strong, Longhorn fans weren't exactly happy with the hire and they are pissed now that they are getting absolutely demolished by TAMU on the recruiting trail. I don't think he lasts very long in Austin.

What Franklin is doing at PSU is far more impressive and I'd venture to say what he did at Vanderbilt was just as (if not more) impressive than Strong's run at Louisville. Don't know that Franklin would be my ultimate answer, but he'd be way ahead of Strong.
