OK, I WILL SAY IT... OUR FUTURE SCHEDULES...

OK, I WILL SAY IT... OUR FUTURE SCHEDULES...

Are crazy.

2019
@Stanford
@Texas
@Georgia
Southern Cal
5 ACC schools w/ 3 away games.

If we get @Florida State or @ Miami or @ Clemson....  we are in for a long season.   I mean forget worrying about playing top 25 teams... we are playing a legit top 10 who's who of college football.

They're likely to move that Texas game to the future.

Stay in the now!

Also, let me ask you a question, are you betting long on the state of ND football?  I am.

Nobody can predict where any of those teams will be in 5 years.

Yeah, right now that schedule is rediculous but a lot can happen between now and then.

Chances are that ND will have to play a schedule like this to make up for not playing in a conference championship game, though.

Yep, ND and Texas will play the first two in the series but the last two will either get moved of cancelled.

Re: OK, I WILL SAY IT... OUR FUTURE SCHEDULES...

true...  but at the same time...

the opposite can happen as well.  Miami can become Miami of old, Clemson could hire a good coach...  Texas could hit the floor running with a new coach...  USC could be ranked again....

If I were ND... I would schedule the 13th game at Hawaii the first week of Dec every year.

Improve the team year after year and become an elite team again and all of a sudden that schedule looks really fun instead of really impossible.

I wouldnt count on Charlie Strong bombing at Texas.  His job became a lot easier when he left Louisville for Austin.  Miami looks to be on the decline again.   Im expecting them to be very strong...no pun intended  But, If Kelly and Co. do their jobs....there Isnt much to worry about.

I've read that Strong may ultimately struggle with all of the other things it takes to be UT's coach outside of the Xs and Os.

If he can't socialize well with those Texas HS coaches he's ******.

Sumlin and Briles aren't making life very easy for Strong and neither will Oklahoma. Hell, look at what Kerry Cooks had done down there this season.

This is one of the reasons that I'm a ND fan. Who the heck wants to see us play South Western Lower Muddogs from Rhode Island? Let's play who's who. If we win, great. If we lose, at least we can say we're not playing some DII school.

There was an earlier thread talking about UM schedule. I'd be PO'd if I was a UM fan. It's embarrasssingredface

Re: OK, I WILL SAY IT... OUR FUTURE SCHEDULES...

We scheduled Tulsa, SDST, and Western Michigan recently. Does that sound like a Notre Dame schedule?  When ND lost to Cuse, the Orange was a miserable excuse for a college football team and to top it off, their HC was already let go. "College Football Live" briefly talked about the ND /Georgia game and acted like scheduling someone difficult was new to ND.  I personally don't think BK can take the Irish through a gauntlet of elite opponents every year and get us to an upper tier bowl in the process with any consistency. Especially when we continue to lose top recruits every year. Our roster just cannot take that kind of hit every single recruiting season and expect to keep up with Bama, FSU, Oregon etc. Beware of Michigan, FSU, Stanford, ASU and USC in 2014. There are no excuses for Brian Kelly in 2014.

Re: OK, I WILL SAY IT... OUR FUTURE SCHEDULES...

Shouldn't titles like this be reserved for stuff like...

"Okay, I'll say it, Hillary Swank is hot,"

Or

"Okay, I'll say it, Nickleback is pretty damn good"

Starting a sentence with, "okay, I'll say it," makes me (and I'm betting most) think that a topic where most people would sit on the fence is going to be supported one way or another. Aside from the obvious contrarion take that, "you never know what's going to happen in five years," I don't think anyone is really expecting that schedule to be anything other than very challenging.

I was expecting, "okay, I'll say it, I really think Malik Zaire is gonna be named the starter and they're going 12-0."

Well, you got me there. That's the first I heard we scheduled western Michigan. If so, then color me red because I'm embarrassed.

Re: OK, I WILL SAY IT... OUR FUTURE SCHEDULES...

One thing about SD State (and Nevada) -- that was payment to the then Mountain West for moving a BYU game in the past. ND owed a favor

Western Michigan mid-season was just odd. So strange. In the same season as Tulsa, no less

Re: OK, I WILL SAY IT... OUR FUTURE SCHEDULES...

IMO, the best schedules (for practical reasons, based on popular perception/playoff determination methodology) are SEC type schedules, with a small number of big games surrounded by a bunch of pansies.  What bothers me about ND schedules is the number of loseable games.  It's when you're scheduling unranked Top 60 teams that your making life harder for yourself without offering yourself much upside in terms of public perception.

In other words, bring on the Western Michigans.  (I'm certainly not advocating scheduling FCS teams.)

Re: OK, I WILL SAY IT... OUR FUTURE SCHEDULES...

Yeah Ive thought about that myself.  Being at Texas Is kinda like being at ND In the fact you have to be a personality and the face of a program.  You're looked to In higher regards and higher expectations.  Kelly got a little guff with this at the beginning of his career at ND and It kinda came to a head when people bashed him for exploding on the sidelines.  Not saying Kelly was wrong In doing that (I personally always responded better to coaches like that and prefer to have that type of coach) but he has tweaked his ways a little bit and Is doing just fine.  Although I wish sometimes he wouldn't be so vague In his responses. lol   I think Charlie will socialize well with the coaches down In Texas.  He did a fantastic job of It In Florida and has carried those relationships with him In his career at UL and I expect he will In Texas as well.  What I think he will have to better himself at Is the PR side of things.  He caught major Hell at UL from people In and out of the state with the character of some of his players and how he handled It In public.  He was looked to as a joke when he came out with his core values amidst his players violating pretty much every single core value that he had listed.   I do wonder If he will take the typical way of recruiting for that job (ravage the state of Texas) or If he will take his own style (locking down players from Florida and the South primarily) or will It be a combination of both?
