If It Wasn't ND?

Who'd be your favorite College Football team. I know to some. This is BLASPHEMY!!! But lets pretend. As for me. It would probably be Texas. I mean I did attend the school. I actually think that they're a respectable school.

Texas is solid.  I also like Northwestern (wife went there).  Stanford too.

I would be a Purdue fan. Both parents are grads and I actually root for them unless, of course, they're playing the Irish!

My B team is ASU although that won't get them a drop of praise out of me this October.

If forced to pick a new A team it would probably be UGA or VaTech.

SO if ND doesn't exist at all? Stanford and Utah.

FSU was good when I was a kid and they had Charlie Ward so they might have been a team I followed as well. but with some of the punks they have now no way

I don't think I would care as much about college football. I would probably root for IU or Purdue and hate my life. I love me some IU b ball, and will root for any Indiana team not playing ND, but football just would not be football without ND. Go Irish!

Re: If It Wasn't ND?

I would go Hollywood Hogan and go Michigan.

No inhibitions, and I can talk all the smack and be as foul-mouthed as I want.

My hate for OSU would go up x10 and think of all the fun that would come with.

On top of that, I can get the worst tattoos and haircuts in the world and no one would judge me because I am a Michigan man and all the others will equally have the same tattoos and haircuts.

I can be as nasty as I want to be and shack up with the most jumbo girls I can find and no one will judge.

Speaking of jumbo, I can let myself go and make fast food my regular diet. You guys may not know, but it is required to have over 30% body fat to join.

No medication required, all people on Zoloft and Prozac actually have to stop taking it in order to join.

The question isn't why, but why not?

You went to Texas?  Great school and I'd like to check out Austin some day.

If not for the obvious Michigan State, I'd probably go with Stanford.

This is actually quite easy for me. Due to living in Northern CA and my hatred of all things Bay area with the exception of course of Pier 39 and UCSF (Would not be here if not for them).  It would be USC or even Fresno St.

I thought about Oregon, That lasted like a millisecond.

Hmm in a world where ND doesn't exist I would have to say I would be cheering for my Dayton Flyers! Sure we are bottom of FCS but damn it we are a basketball school...

Damn if Notre Dame never existed my Autumns would be REALLY boring!
God. Country. Notre Dame.

Re: If It Wasn't ND?

This one is easy for me.....the Badgers!

I love their style of play ever since Barry Alvarez took over.  Big 'ol 6'6" 325 lb OL....we're running right at you, you know it, we know it, try top stop us.

They seldom choke in bowl games like most Big 10 schools......they represent very well.

Also, I travel a lot during the fall.....to lots of different games and it's hard to find a more welcoming and fun fan base for outsiders, than Wisconsin.   Focus is on fun.....and they don't take themselves that seriously.  The exact opposite of Columbus (which is the worst, BTW).

Re: If It Wasn't ND?

I have heard this sentiment about Ole Miss as well. Suppose to be a great setting with very nice people.

I believe some of Ole Miss fans or alum have been on this board in the past asking what we thought about a home and home with them. Stating they did not care about the outcome of the game but geared towards more of the social aspect, bbq and having a good time and visiting new places.

This is hilarious!

I don't even know how to answer the question. I love college football because I love ND football. The idea of another favorite team just isn't computing for me.

Growing up in NW Illinois I would probably be either an Iowa fan or a Badger fan. I did go to the Badger football camp in high school so I would probably lean that way.

I'm not picking until I see what 64's answer is.  I've checked in on this thread WAITING for his answer.  So what is is 64?

Re: If It Wasn't ND?

Well, that might be an easy one for him to answer. You have to remember, when FR Sorin came up with the idea and name for ND he ran it past 64 to get his feedback. So my guess would be something to the effect, there would have always been a ND but the location might have changed to some place warmer...
