It is what I expected. His instincts make up for his lack of speed and explosion. Still a 1st round pick.

Re: Teo runs 4.81 40
That's a tough time. I know 90% of the evaluation is done from tapes, but 4.81 will hurt him. How much, is the question...

Re: Teo runs 4.81 40
4.80 on the second run.
Whats funny is that everyone had Minter jumping over Teo, but Minter was actually slower in the 40 and is 2 inches shorter than Teo. Everyone ripping Teo for his 40 time, not a peep about Minter's

Damn, I didn't realize he was THAT slow. Still might be a late first rounder, but definitely didn't help himself with that at all.

Re: Teo runs 4.81 40
Yea that was a tough 40 time, if he ran in the 4.7's I would have no doubt he would be a 1st rd pick, but now...

RE: Teo runs 4.81 40
Good. I don't give two chits about his 40 time. Now hopefully he falls to a team that actually is a decent one. This could be a blessing for Teo. Look at his tape and that tells you all you need to know if this kid can play or not. And i don't think that he'll fall out of the first round.

He may not, but he was already placed at the end of the first round. This could push him out.

and hence
a real problem with football these days, I think.
The lines are blurred between who can actually play the game vs who is a track star. We KNOW that Manti can flat out play, but his track speed will downgrade him. Going gback to high school, if Rivals and Scout knew his actual speed was a 4.8, he would have been a 2-3 star LB out of high school and probably would have played for New Mexico State. (they're so obsessed with speed, that no high school LB running a 4.8 is getting 5 stars!!)
What I am saying is that - while speed is important - guys get overly hypered up and torn down based solely on their 40 time and that robs us of seeing good **football players**, I think.
It's easy to evaluate guys based upon 40 times (Rivals, Scout, NFL Combine) and very tough to evaluate based upon football ability.
Random bitching, cause it ain't gonna change any time soon.......

Re: Teo runs 4.81 40
Sounds like Teo has done well in the other drills, but hey, the 40 is super important because ILB's are constantly asked to sprint 40 yards in a game. So he should probably be drafted based on that.

Mayock had a good point this weekend... he said if a guy runs slower than he looks on tape, you need to re-visit the tape to make sure you are not missing something I think what is more important for LB, RB, DL & OL are the 10 yard splits... these guys aren't like the DB's and WRs that need to have 40 yard sprints, these guys need to quickly cover 10-15 yards to snuff out plays, pull and fill gaps

The well run teams that are picking at the end of the first round won't let him get by them.

Re: Teo runs 4.81 40
Vontaze Burfict ran a 5.09 40 last year at the combine and still led the Bengals in tackles with 127 in his first year. Te'o was still a 4.8 linebacker on his way to a Heisman runner-up so it obviously didn't impact his ability to actually play the game.

Re: Teo runs 4.81 40
I still say the 40 is the most over rated aspect of the combine or any person who plays football. You can make any fast person slow by making him think and a slow person fast by not thinking and just reacting.
They should drop the 40 and instead have every play suit up full gear and time them from their position stance, drop to the ground get back up and run 10 yards or even 20 yards, Maybe linemen and LB's drop twice. I think that would give more sense of how quick a player really is.

Those organizations are run like garbage right now. Best case scenario for Manti? Baltimore at 32...unless every Raven fan expects him to be Ray Lewis incarnate.

RE: Teo runs 4.81 40
Problem is...teams are just looking for a reason not to draft Manti in the 1st round. This will not help.
I have this feeling that Manti will drop to the early 2nd round and be a STEAL for some team. I don't see anyone taking T'eo in the 1st round except Baltimore with the last pick. That wouldn't be such a bad thing for Manti, but I think it's Baltimore or bust for T'eo.

I bet he lands as a Giant, they need the help stopping the run. But if he drops to the ravens or pats, that is a steal! amruther24 wrote: dosch44 wrote: The well run teams that are picking at the end of the first round won't let him get by them. Exactly right.
