I believe ND WILL play big10 teams, but please explain why ND NEEDS to play them? I really want to understand why you think playing your conference, in the locations that they reside, benefits ND in any way... Spoiler alert...it doesn't. BrutusBuck11 wrote:

RE: Big Ten to play 9m maybe 10, league games
The Western Conference (the early Big 10) began their boycott in about 1907 when ND in their 8th try finally beat Michigan. Michigan's response was to drop the Irish for over 40 years and begin a boycott by the Western conference. Only Perdue did not go along (MSU was years away from membership). This led to ND going East in 1913 to play at West Point. In that time top shelf FB was only found in the East. An unheard of midwestern school beating mighty Army and with the unused foward pass shook up football. Rockne as head coach got ND to apply for membership 3 times after WWI and in the early 1920s, but was always rejected because of Cathoolic bigotry led by the Skunks and the Nuts. . Irish73 wrote:

RE: Big Ten to play 9m maybe 10, league games
I'm a B1G fan - Michigan specifically - but NDIRISH does have his history right. The Purdue, MSU & Michigan series have served the Irish well. As we move to 4 super conferences, you will need to decide which would be the best fit for you. I think the B1G would be far better than B12 or ACC (whichever is left standing), but you will certainly have your options. RE: Big Ten to play 9m maybe 10, league games
and if the 4 super-conference champs seed the semi-final and championship games, the independent Irish will be content to watch on TV? I don't think so. You'll need to pick a conference and you will have your choice. Any of them would take you. You just need to make sure to pick one before your preferred conference is full. ndalum64 wrote: richbaxter wrote: I'm a B1G fan - Michigan specifically - but NDIRISH does have his history right.

If ND were to go undefeated hell would freeze over before they would pass them up for a tournament bid. ND is too big a name to get passed over in favor of a representative of some collection of various quality teams. What's the big deal with a conference anyway? Most conferences have one or two good teams, and a few middling teams and bottom feeders. If there were more teams that could compete and make money as independents they'd do it. Texas could. FSU, Miami, Penn State, So. Carolina, Syracuse to name a few, couldn't make it as independents because their fan base is concentrated in a given area. Could Penn State, for example, draw a national audience? Do you think people in California give a rat's @ss about a team in PA?

The dream of 4 mega conferences locking out all other DI teams from a NC is like the perverted pleasure 13 year old boys get from looking at bra ads under the covers with their flashlight. The fact is that ND has 0 need to ever play any Big Ten team. ND must remain national in scope, and ND serves all its midwestern needs by playing Home games. You guys and Michigan forced ND to play a national schedule and the rest is history. Good grief. NC fan keep up the good posting. You make a lot of sense. Neither would interest ND. You BIG fans have to finally understand that ND isn't interested in joining a conference. Any conference. You had your chance to get us 70-80 years ago. You won't get another. The Purdue, MSU & Michigan series have served the Irish well. As we move to 4 super conferences, you will need to decide which would be the best fit for you. I think the B1G would be far better than B12 or ACC (whichever is left standing), but you will certainly have your options.
