Jabrill Peppers
So I just saw we made the cut for his final 5 programs. This kid looks like an absolute stud and god knows we could use a great corner back. What are our chances with this kid? I see he goes to a Catholic school.
Thanks for any info in advance.

Re: Jabrill Peppers
He transferred from Don Bosco prep and is good buddies with Shumate. He always stresses academics in his interviews (he wants to be a doctor). He's a smart kid with a 3.7 GPA. I'm not sure how much PT is an issue for him, but I think it's a race between Standford and Michigan. We made his cut though, so there's always a chance!

I hate Michigan just as much as anyone here, but I don't really understand your point. Michigan has a great medical school and their pre-med program obviously benefits from being closely connected to their top-notch hospital and medical program. We've even sent ND athletes to get checked out by Michigan doctors at the Ann Arbor hospital. I absolutely hate Michigan, but I think you're a little off on this one, unless I'm misunderstanding your point. dosch44 wrote: Well, if he wants to be a doc, Michigans out.

They don't let their players go down the pre med route. Just ask Jim Harbaugh. There is a difference between Michigan the school and the education the football players get. --------------------------------------------- --- jsdirish wrote: I hate Michigan just as much as anyone here, but I don't really understand your point. It is the same way with a lot of schools to echo Dosch's point. Florida is the 2nd best academic institution in the SEC but their athletes don't often graduate with real degrees that offer earning potential outside of football. Although, to be fair, we have all of this college debt because of all the social science majors who are paying 40K a year to go to college and make 40K a year. Wait, I blacked out, what happened? dosch44 wrote: They don't let their players go down the pre med route. Just ask Jim Harbaugh.

Because everyone prefers Urban and the Buckeyes. Especially those that appreciate the academic side of college.

I'm calling my shot: if he qualifies academically, he picks ND. Interestingly, he says he wasn't really happy at Don Bosco (best program in NJ right now) in non-football matters, so he transferred to Paramus Catholic. Article also says his dad's in jail and his brother was murdered, he's had a really tough road. LINK
PROUDLY REPPING...

RE: Jabrill Peppers
The HUGE majority of people who go to medical school were not pre-med majors, so what am I missing? No program is going to forbid a kid from preparing to apply for medical school, especially considering you can get in with virtually any undergrad degree (my cousin, who completed his MD at Columbia, did his undergrad in liberal studies at Utah State). Scholarship athletes can get a great education regardless of where they go, it's just that 95% couldn't care less. If you think programs steering athletes into easier academic loads is a Michigan thing, might want to ask former Ohio State RB Robert Smith...or should we automatically strike the Buckeyes off the list as well? dosch44 wrote: They don't let their players go down the pre med route. RE: Jabrill Peppers
once ND starts showing a little more love he'll fall in love with them right away. he's good friends with Shumate, a LONG way to go, but yea, OSU and Stanford lead for now.

--------------------------------------------- Go ahead - strike OSU off of the list too. Programs steer kids to easier "majors" all the time. The catch is that how many times have we heard a kid say this then commit to a school that doesn't hold his feet to the academic fire.

RE: Jabrill Peppers
I'm not disagreeing that programs steer kids to certain programs, but when it comes to getting into med school, the name at the top of your degree, whether michigan or Notre Dame, is what matters. dosch44 wrote: stoptothink wrote: The HUGE majority of people who go to medical school were not pre-med majors, so what am I missing?
