Somehow, I doubt too many HS kids are majoring in History, but those who do will find (depending on source): 7 National Championships for Minnesota 6 for MSU 5 for Illinois 4 for Iowa 2 each for Chicago and Maryland and one each for Purdue and Rutgers Keep in mind, I don't find this info particularly relevant, but apparently you do. remmuh80 wrote: the problem with the big ten....

How many of those since you have been alive, though, lum? In other news, the just-signed 2013 recruiting class of kids was in fifth grade the last time somebody other than an SEC school was national champion. lumbergh wrote: Somehow, I doubt too many HS kids are majoring in History, but those who do will find (depending on source):

Re: Its NDs fault the Big10 sux
Your question would probably be better directed to the poster(s) concerned with the history of college football. And news is, by definition, "new". Not sure the 2006 college football season qualifies in the eyes of sixteen-year-olds. SeattleNDfan wrote: How many of those since you have been alive, though, lum?

I thought it relevant because in the context of his rant, remmuh80 was pretty clearly referencing recent history, not all time history. You have to keep in mind when reading these posts who the posters are. Remmuh80 is a young turk. lumbergh wrote: Your question would probably be better directed to the poster(s) concerned with the history of college football.

Oh, I do my best to post with all sorts of readers in mind, but I was unaware Remmuh was a young'un. Well, so concludeth today's lesson in college football history proper. Though I should point out I thought the oddity surrounding Remmuh's post and many like it was precisely that he seemed to have no exact time frame (past, present, or future) in mind. Anybody can be said to suck if you keep changing both the relevant timeline and criteria for success (say wins vs. attendance). Re: Its NDs fault the Big10 sux
It sure as heck is good in hoops this year, but lately in football, it hasn't been good and this is why IMO...
at the end of the year, we look at bowl games right? How many big ten teams have to play in california (rose) texas (dallas bowl), and florida (gator, Capital, Outback). IN these bowls, the big ten has to play the pac 12 champs, a good B12 team (see purdue getting humiliated by the pokes) and finally, three tough SEC teams really.
The farm beat wisky osu smacks purdue South carolina beats meat georgia beat nebraska finally northwestern won a bowl game but they beat a crud miss st team
It doesn't help that in the pre-league games they lose to lesser conference opponents.
Tied to the fact that the suckeyes and lions are on double secret probation...that doesn't help.
Perception at the end of the year has not helped the big 10 for the past few years in my mind, their bowl tie ins have overwhelmed them as a whole.
2012 TGWITG Champion! 2013 Banned from own site! 2014 ???

Re: Its NDs fault the Big10 sux
To wit: Only three schools have won or shared Big Ten Championships since 2005 - MSU, aOSU, and Wisconsin. Even these can't claim to be consistent juggernauts in-conference. Wisconsin was 4-4 this year in regular season conference play. MSU was 3-5. aOSU was 3-5 the year before. lumbergh wrote: I should point out I thought the oddity surrounding Remmuh's post and many like it was precisely that he seemed to have no exact time frame (past, present, or future) in mind.

Re: Its NDs fault the Big10 sux
You've caught on to a big part of it. Usually, losses out of conference haven't only been away games - they have been to higher tier teams from rival conferences. The other big part is they have the most parity of any conference and they beat up on each other. Reality directly opposes popular belief in this regard. In reality, the Big Ten has been an elite football conference lately by any intelligent in-depth analysis of on-field product. tsneddon wrote: It sure as heck is good in hoops this year, but lately in football, it hasn't been good and this is why IMO...

Michigan has 1/2 a championship since my grandfather's been alive. Just throwing that out there.
