How good was EG against 'Bama? Best offense ever in '13!
Okay, maybe not actually the best offense ever in '13, but maybe!
To anyone wondering what to expect out of the Irish offense next season, Golson faced a very good Alabama defense, and performed very well, especially in the second half, I thought. Considering that it was his first year under center and all the lumps he took, I think that he's poised for a breakout season, especially as our receiving options mature. I think that our passing game could look ridiculous next season. Don't get me wrong; I think that we'll run the ball very well, but I expect our passing game to not only be much-improved, but to be stellar.
On top of that, I think that our defense will be better next season, especially along the line and in the back end.
I think that we have a chance at being significantly better next season than we were this season, and a lot of that might have to do with Golson.

EG had a good 2nd half, but he needs to learn to stay in the pocket. He bails too early. Work on his progression, too. But, hey, sky is the limit. Just a r/s freshman. Just tapping his potential at this point.

Just rewatch the first half of the USC game, that is EG at his best, and I expect to see him maintain that level next season. He was on point, confident, and made great decisions. I think he is more comfortable in the pocket than running it. He will stay in and throw as long as the protection is there. I don't feel he gets "happy feet" until he needs to bolt.

I want to see Kelly get the ball to playmakers in space. I'm sick of abysmal YAC numbers. It feels like all of our receptions last year were hitches or jump balls.
Into Golson's second year hopefully we will see more crossing routes over the middle. It seemed that he rarely attacked the middle of the field. I don't know if it was by design or that he couldn't see the options.
I just want to see Neal running wild.

Frankly, I want to see us never have to throw. Ever.
A. I want a boring, methodical offense that just imposes it's will on the other team by sheer force of running the ball.
Yes, it's not flashy, but is is absolutely demoralizing to the opposing team when they know you're running, but can't stop it.
B. It means are likely winning!

FWIW, Fremeau's final efficiency rankings for 2012 had ND with the #12 offense and #16 defense. Maybe we'll get that defense up to speed. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/feitowsonkid wrote: 2014 for the offense.

I'm looking forward to an offense similar to the one we saw against Wake Forest. I think our weapons will be that much better and I think we can crank it up early and often. I love running the football but the progression from EG was terrific and I want to see what else he can do. No Eifert is going to hurt because he was just a stud but Davaris and TJ are going to dominate.

This is why the NFL has an age minimum. CWND78 wrote:

BK is going to play to the teams strength on offense, If I had to peg a direction at this moment, you would have to believe the strength going into this coming season will be passing until the O'line gels and we see how the running game comes along during the first couple of weeks. Without a doubt the ball needs to get into the hands of guys like Daniels, Jones, Carlisle, Atkinson (in space), Neal and a few other guys, I hope this does not rub people the wrong way but I also tend to believe that our starting tailback is not on campus yet. That will probably be Bryant or Folston, They both seem to have more of that "it" factor than Atkinson. Guys who can pound, be elusive and have speed.

Our YACs were fine. Yes, we need to go over the middle, but that will come. In a SPREAD offense, it's imperative to wheel it out to the sidelines so the defense stretches, which opens up running lanes for a rushing attack. And if we have the talent to win with jump balls, go for it...the NY Giants have won a couple super bowls doing that. I also think we're severely understimating our returning RB talent. The new guys will be amazing in time, but don't discount what we have in GAIII, Carlisle, Mahone, and McDaniel. Bryant will likely get into the rotation, while Folston may want to redshirt. our athletes, our team as a whole, was so young, especially on defense. despite the fact that we were a 3-5 loss team this year and went undefeated, we're going to be extremely good next year, WAY better than we were this year, for sure! idk if we go undefeated, but we'll have a much better offense and reload on defense.

You know I thought about the Oklahoma game too, and I def won't disagree. I just felt like as far as pocket passes go, he really looked sharp vs USC. Besides his great throw to Brown I felt like his running ability was more impressive vs Oklahoma. But regardless, if he puts it all together he could be a special player next season. There's no argument on the kid's ability or confidence, that's for sho. --------------------------------------------- --- remmuh80 wrote: wrong. watch the entire OKLAHOMA game. that is EG at his best. touchdownJesus7 wrote: Just rewatch the first half of the USC game, that is EG at his best, and I expect to see him maintain that level next season.
