OK Five Days...What are Everyones Thoughts
If I understand it correctly, starting Monday it is a dead period until NSD? Is that correct? What are the thoughts going on out there on filling the last two spots? Do we fill them? Do we settle with what we got? Who the last two spots will go to? Any surprises? Are we confortable with our current commits?

Re: OK Five Days...What are Everyones Thoughts
IMO...b/c I don't have all the insider info nor do I play video games or facebook w/any recruits
I think we add no one and keep our class as it is...I feel we just waited way to long for Vanderdoes and Hollins (Fitts we never had a chance with until SC hosed him). I could be wrong but it doesn't seem like our staff is recruiting kids who are currently committed to other schools like other coaches/staffs do...e.g Meyer or Kiffin and maybe they need to be more aggressive with that....I could be wrong though, maybe they are and its just not as talked about as much b/c its them doing it to someone elses recruits compared to vice versa.
With that said...I think we stay where we are and keep our class intact...which is not really a bad thing considering what has happened the last few years
But here's to hoping I'm wrong....on the addition part!

RE: OK Five Days...What are Everyones Thoughts
Yes, you are correct, the dead period starts Monday and goes to Thursday (yes, past NSD). There were four prospects left on our board for a remaining two spots after Smythe committed. Now, Hollins seems to have re-affirmed his commitment to UCLA and is solid, and Torrodney Prevot was supposed to visit this weekend but cancelled, he'll either end up at A&M or back at USC. So, that really only leaves Fitts and Vanderdoes left. Now, I don't believe either of them are sure locks to be Irish, Vanderdoes liked every school he visited, and we got into the picture late with Fitts, so we have a lot of ground to make up. In my mind, it's a three team race for Fitts, with UCLA first, USC second and ND third. Now with Vanderdoes, we've had more time to get back into the picture and have made a real good impression on his mom. Now, he is visiting Alabama this weekend, but I am not worried about it. IMO, he stays on the West coast or comes to ND.
In conclusion, Vanderdoes is really the only recruit I have some confidence in when it comes to committing to ND. He'll get a chance to play on one of the best defenses in college football, a winning program that will compete for BCS bowls and perhaps another NCG, will get a top notch education surpassed only by Duke or Northwestern (Im being generous, dont hate) in the FBS, and will be surrounded by a great teammates and coaches.

RE: OK Five Days...What are Everyones Thoughts
I think we are in it with vanderdoes. When mom is on your side that is always a great thing. Itll come down to how much he wants to leave home.
Fitts is up in the air i really think he loved his visit but usc has always been his dream school and hes going to make one more stop there when he comes back from his official to utah So i have a feeling hes going back to usc. Hes proven his point he made them suffer a little and now he will go back. While hollins came out and said hes a 100% UCLA i wont give up on this till he signs hes letter. I think vanderdoes is our best and probobly only shot and honestly if we get him i could care less about the other two.

RE: OK Five Days...What are Everyones Thoughts
something VERRRRY FISHY is going on at Ole Miss! could they and UCLA be a top 10 class, or top5?
Vanderdoes is the only guy I REALLY want to sign with us, anyone else is just a bonus. but i'd love to know how schools like bama can rake in 7-10 guys during a dead period and NSD! We were the #1 team, everyone should want to be Irish!! what the hell is with ole miss, UCLA, and A&M???

Hugh Freeze is an excellent recruiter. Read "Meat Market" by Bruce Feldman.
It also helps that the brother of the #1 recruit in the country is one of Freeze's starting LBs.

RE: OK Five Days...What are Everyones Thoughts
As of this morning there is A LOT of rumors that Laremy Tunsil and Chris Jones, another pair of 5* are leaning towards Ole Miss. They very likely could end up with the #1 class in the nation, with 5 5*. Sorry, there is absolutely nothing that is going to convince me that everything is on the up-and-up at Ole Miss, especially with all of the smoke regarding Treadwell and Nkemdiche. amruther24 wrote:

RE: OK Five Days...What are Everyones Thoughts
i agree its not normal to go from never getting any 5 stars to getting 5 in one class. Hugh freeze must be the best recruiter in history. not even orgeron was able to pull this off in his time there and he is widely regarded has one of the top 5 recruiters in college football.
I also always find it weird when high school coaches get hired by the same school there star player just signed with. Never liked that and it happeneds a whole bunch. If anyone is wondering iam talking about when feeze followed oher to ole miss. Freeze is a very shady guy. I remember when the story came out about him calling archie manning because he wanted the ole miss job.

RE: OK Five Days...What are Everyones Thoughts
Sounds pretty shady, but regardless, it's his ability to develop the talent he reels in, that will determine his success 3-5 years from now. Does he have that ability? Odds are against it, but it's nice to see a smaller school doing some damage down there. Maybe Ole Miss is playing the role of SEC spoiler a la Ralph Nader or Ross Perot. stoptothink wrote: As of this morning there is A LOT of rumors that Laremy Tunsil and Chris Jones, another pair of 5* are leaning towards Ole Miss. RE: OK Five Days...What are Everyones Thoughts
I don't think this is suddenly going to put Ole Miss on the map, and at a place like that which isn't a traditional power it sure as heck is worth the risk. I'd be willing to bet the NCAA never even bothers to look into the pictures of Treadwell on his official visit or the rumors that the medical center promised Nkemdiches father a job. We need Skyler Diggins to be our recruiter!! --------------------------------------------- --- CWND78 wrote: irishfan84 wrote: something VERRRRY FISHY is going on at Ole Miss! could they and UCLA be a top 10 class, or top5?

RE: OK Five Days...What are Everyones Thoughts
UCLA... i understand. they have a great coach and USC is a lame duck. It leaves the door wide open for UCLA. Ole Miss... i dont quite understand the attraction there... but hey... Tennessee, Auburn, Miss St, Arkansas ARE ALL WAY DOWN. So that leaves kids in that region going to Bama, LSU or Ole Miss. On a sarcastic note... would you want to play for a 1st year coach with a 7-6 record? irishfan84 wrote: something VERRRRY FISHY is going on at Ole Miss! could they and UCLA be a top 10 class, or top5?

What was the story on calling Archie? He was the co chair of the search committee. Followed nd since birth and ole miss since Archie. Don't think anything fishey. Freeze seems like the real deal. Recruiting in the sec is a different animal. Totally cut throat. Fan loyalties divided.

Re: OK Five Days...What are Everyones Thoughts
I am with everyone else here Eddie Vanderdoes would be an exclamation point to this class, and I would be more than happy for just him and nobody else. If we get another 3-5 star recruit that would be great. That 3rd DT in this class would be invaluable. Come to the Dome Eddie Vanderdoes, we would LOVE to have you!
P.S. If someone (Coach Kelly's staff) could talk Anzalone (or however you spell his name) to come back to Notre Dame I would be so grateful. I wonder if he would if we get Vanderdoes. The talent in our current 2013 class has to do something in his mind you would think. Well so would Florida and his dad's old school UF.

Re: OK Five Days...What are Everyones Thoughts
I just tweeted (seriously) Tom Lugenbiel from ESPN he responded, and he thinks I quote, "Bama is in the driver seat." However, what would happen if both Foster and Dee Liner would go to Bama? Could that swade Vanderdoes to Notre Dame? I have heard this comment twice now (about Foster and Liner), so I am wondering if there is anything to that.

RE: OK Five Days...What are Everyones Thoughts
Vanderdoes has said on multiple occasions that he isn't afraid of competition, but he has been remarkably hard to read. One of the USC posters has suggested his actions don't necessarily match his words. IDK what to think, I just really hope we land him.
