UTEP Game Post Rating (1 vote)

Started good.

Went through a bad spell where they let the flow of the game get into their heads, Pittman for the most part.

The big guys struggled as usual, Goff and Spikes.

Went small late, team didnt quit, made a nice run.

Important that the team didnt quit.

Not quoting is good but that isn't what matters. Wins and losses is what matters. The way we have lost is sad and how our team handles their emotions is pathetic and that starts at the top. It is embarrassing. Just like against UK, we are getting beat by a goo margin in the second half and Pittman gets a very nice dunk yet he has to flex and "talk". That was embarrassing to the program. It is one thing in a close game but being down 20+ and do that...terrible reaction.

I am bringing my son up for the game next Saturday but to be honest the only reason I am coming is he wants to watch one more game. If it wasn't for that there is no way I would drive up. I just can't get up for the games nor spend my money to drive over there. I will be at the UAB game next month on our bus trip and that will probably be it.

Well. Do as you may. It's your decision. But the amount of fans quitting two games deep into cusa play is laughable.

I think it is funny that so many "fans" are taking the "fighting each other" comment that those guys on the UTEP network were talking about last night. Nigel tried to calm down Pittman and Pittman moved him out of the way. Yep, that NEVER happens.

Pittman was targeted early in the game. The offiials TWICE went to him and ONLY him to tell him to shut up. Then, a DOUBLE technical is called. See, it wasnt just him.

Is he a hot head, sure is.

Someone is embarrassed because he flexed his muscles after a crazy dunk at Rupp late in the game. He was at RUPP. His home state, in front of his people. Who cares.

Had we won last night, people would have liked the moxy. We lost, so Marshall fans look for even more reason to complain.

A couple weeks ago it seemed that Dunlap may be the new DC...people said, no way, no how, we need Elko or Heater, keep in mind NO ONE had ever heard of Elko before his name was mentioned, NO ONE, not even the smartest football fans. They said, maybe Dunlap for a positoin coach, but thats it.

So here we are. Heater is the DC, and Dunlap MAY become a position coach. And now, its, Heaters resume sucks, we needed Elko, and I dont want another one of Docs buddies, this buddy system is crazy.

I mean come on.

Enough already.

People need to just stop, and start becoming fans again like when you were a kid.

We win when we get even marginal production from the paint. When Spikes decides not to show up, which is easy to tell 5-6 minutes into the game how he's deciding to play that night; if he decides to play in panties that particular night like last night, I would sit him, go small and play full court. Trap peoples butts off forces TO's, make them take quick shots, and get out in transition which is where we are obviously at our best.

The guy that's now up at WVU won numerous conference championships at UC doing that with the same type of personel we have on this roster.

RE: UTEP Game

Sorry Aaron it was Rediculious for him to be that way. I have seen Pittman do things like tht a lot and he is one of my favorite players. Whn you are down nearly 30 there is no reason to talk after a funk I don't care if you are back "home". It looked small time. It is like someone getting a sack and acting like it saved TE game yet being down 20-30. I was at Rupp and heard the comments. It was quite sad.

A for giving up in the team after two games...my frustration goes back to starting up in NY. We have overachieved with Kane. We have lost way too many games this year we had no business losing. I cheer for The Herd an keep up but there is no way in hell I put let their play dictate me. I still make my donations and buy my tickets in football. I just choose not to drive 2 hours to watch a game spend money on tickets and food only to get frustrated.

We have a team that supposed going to be a top 50 team yet we are 500. No excuses as we should have never been strictly relying in Canty a our savior. One player has caused us to be this bad. Our own players have talked about not playing for fun. That is a problem. Does it start with the coaching staff? Does it start with the Leaders on the team? Probably both but for us to have the record we have is pretty sad considering we were supposed to give Memphis a run for the CUSA championship. We may still do it but based on our current résumé we will be lucky to get into a tournament below the NIT. I hope I am wrong and you know me...I am man enough to admit it.

Well said, Aaron. As much as I like the internet and all the things I can learn here and the speed I can get it, I also hate it.

Everyone is an expert. It's so easy to write whatever you want behind a faceless screen name. Call out the players, coach's and administrators, etc.
I'd like see how brazen some of those people would be if they faced Dre Kane, Robert Goff, Tom Herrion or Mike Hamrick face to face. I'll bet the dialogue would be a lot different.

Never really implied that they didnt act like that, but with this fan base it is one thing after another, nothing is ever good enough.

RE: UTEP Game

While I certainly get annoyed by some of the stuff our fans say (I agree that some of it is quite idiotic), how dare people have opinions regarding players and coaches in sports. That's just the nature of sports at the end of the day, and isn't so much of a personal attack as some make it out to be. While I am certainly not happy with how our players and coaches are doing, it wouldn't be appropriate for me to tell them all about it to their face. That shouldn't necessarily discredit my opinion, however. I think there are some that get too personally and emotionally attached to our athletes and coaches to form an appropriate opinion about our programs' performance.

As far as our fan base and "nothing is ever good enough," I can't blame people for complaining too much. Between both revenue sports, we have only been around the middle of the road among mid-major programs when we have been at our best during the past ten years. It's not like our fans have become overly spoiled by success, and are wanting unrealistic things. I would say most people would be rather happy with an 8 win season in football or to have made an improvement in our postseason finish in basketball. Despite all the hype, we didn't come close to accomplishing that in football, and it appears highly unlikely basketball will, either.

I agree meister about what some would say to someone face to face.  I can promise you ...there is nothing I put on here I wouldn't say face to face to any of the individuals you mention above.  I know Mike very well and he always allows me to express my thoughts.  I would bet you a $100 that if I talked to Coach Herrion about how disappointed I am and how I have a hard time justifying the spend to come back and forth to Huntington, he would understand and apologize and go on to ask for a second chance.  He has done so much in the media.  A good coach/player/AD will listen to constructive criticism just like we do in the work place.  It hurts to hear but helps in the end.

I know personally I want our current Coaches to be successful and be here until they get another job because of success.  I would trade a coach leaving every 2-3 years if we were winning.  Right now...we had a very disappointing football season and basketball is heading that way.  I guarantee Doc would say the same thing.  He does appear to be doing all he can to not have this issue next year (see new DC and some great recruits).

Some people are way over board.  I

My point is simple.

If you have the money and time to come watch a team that is 20 - 0, then, if you have the time and money, and are a fan, you should come and watch the team that is 0 - 20.

Says the man that lives less than five miles from campus. It's a lot easier for me to justify spending that time and money when the games actually matter.

I didn't misread a thing. I have the time and money to drive four hours round-trip to see a game, but it's much harder to justify doing so for a team that has little to play for.

Ok Maddy. They have little to play for huh.

Two games deep into CUSA play, and you cant justify watching them?

RE: UTEP Game

I wasn't speaking specifically for now. In fact, I'm coming in on Saturday (granted I also have Big Green meeting to attend). Still, if they continue to play the way they have, the games will continue to have progressively less meaning as we go deeper into the season. In your post, you were implying it shouldn't make a difference between a 20-0 team and an 0-20 team. My point is if they are 0-20, the game simply does not matter, making it harder to justify cutting into that time and money. I might agree with you if we were talking about football with 6 home games per year.

In BBall, all games matter. The season is never over until the final game in the CUSA tourney, and each game, regardless of record, effects your tourney seed which effects your ability or inability to make tourney run.
