From Herdzone:

Marshall Adds Amayo to Roster

6-4 guard is eligible to play at Kentucky on Saturday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Kelvin Amayo, a 6-4 freshman guard from Newark, N.J., is now a member of the Marshall men’s basketball team as he was added to the roster on Thursday.

Amayo, who enrolled at Marshall in January 2011 as a non-qualifier, practiced for the first time with the Thundering Herd Thursday afternoon. He is eligible for competition immediately.

Amayo was a three-star recruit out of high school (class of 2011) by Rivals.com. He averaged 20 points, six rebounds and five assists for NIA Prep and led them to a 26-7 record and a No. 6 national ranking among the country’s prep schools. Despite being a guard, Amayo was once named to the All-Windex First Team as one of New Jersey’s best rebounders.

His first opportunity for competition will be on Saturday when Marshall (7-5) plays at No. 23 Kentucky (7-3) at 4 p.m.

It will be interesting to see how much, or if, he plays at all against UK. I think a lot of fans have high expectations for this kid, which probably isn't fan to him.

Didn't John Taft become eligible mid-season his freshman year? I seem to remember when he became eligible, his legs weren't under him yet and a lot of his shots were short. If Amayo plays, it wouldn't be surprising to see the same thing out of him.

I wouldn't expect too much from this kid anytime soon. Let him get his legs under him and we'll see.

I agree sv, i doubt it has to do with his legs getting under him though.

He has been getting a lot of 1-1 instruction and learning the offense and for the last 3-4 weeks has been in the gym a lot feels he can step right in and contribute and play a lot of minutes tomorrow.

I doubt he will because Herrion will want to work him in the rotation. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does.

I thought Martin did better the other night, Manning is a better passer, but doesn't work at all to get open, he stands a lot. Point guard has to make moves to get the ball because they are denied the ball a lot, Herrion must have yelled, "Tamron GET OPEN" 500 times Wednesday night.

I had been told numerous times that Amayo would see about the same playing time as Kambola, but with what we have right now, who knows.
