Predictions For September 2013 Post Rating (2 votes)

And August

 biggrin

8/31 Miami OH ~ Toss Up
9/7 Gardener Webb ~ Win
9/14 @ Ohio ~ Toss Up
9/21 @ VT ~ Loss

These games will set the tone for the season. Get off to a good start and some confidence could carry over into conference play or get off to a bad start and have our backs against the wall all season. I would take a 2-2 split today. 3-1 would be better and I don't even want to consider a 1-3 start.

Getting into C-USA play it appears we will get all the traditionally tough teams except for Tulsa. Home games with ECU, Southern Miss UAB, and North Texas, and road trips to La Tech, Tulane, UTEP and FIU.  All should be tough road games except for Tulane and it will probably end up being tougher than it should.

3 - 1 worse case scenario.

We are too good right now.

Also, Im not scared of VT either. I dont know that they can outscore us.

I'm hoping for 3-1, but who knows.   How can we be too good right now??  If we were too good we wouldn't be sitting on our ass at bowl season.   Much of next season, if not all, is going to depend on the defense.

I think right now we are 1-3 against that schedule. best case scenario would be 2-2. I would also be ecstatic with 3-1 or better. We have to win the two home games. Then win all our home conference games. See how easy it is to get to 6 wins.

Last time I checked our D is giving up 43 points a game. That is the piece to the puzzle. The D has to make vast improvements next year.

Miami OH wasn't very good this year but if we don't make significant improvement on D we will make their offense look like 11 all Americans.

Ohio even back to the MAC days Athens was a very difficult place to get a win and Ohio today is a heck of a lot better than the OHIO of yesterday. That is going to be a tough game.

So you post that it's 1 win, 1 loss, and 2 tossups, but 2-2 is best case scenario?  May want to re-think that logic.

Miami was worse than "not very good" they won 4 games: 1 against a mediocre FCS team, 1 against 1 win UMass (probably the worst FBS team in the nation), 1 against 1 win Akron (maybe the second worst FBS team in the nation), and an upset win against OU.

We return most of the key ingredients to one of the best offense in the nation, we will be a year older on defense with a new, hopefully better, defensive coach next season. OU will fall off a bit, they lose 21 seniors. I'd say Miami and GW are wins, OU is a toss up just because it's on the road. VT isn't a guaranteed loss, they finished 6-6 this year, but were really a bad team.

Miami finished 4 - 8, got blown out more often than not.

We return the number one offense in the nation for the most part, we play them at home.

And its a toss up? We are 1 - 3 against that schedule?

Really??

Even though Miami was 4-8, we were only 5-7.  Miami also beat OU and we did not.  I think we win that game (at least we better) but it will closer than most like.

Based on the ratings that are usually in line with Vegas, at home, we would've been a 13-15 point fav over Miami (OH)

Did they lose to some really bad teams?   I have no idea about their season.

They beat Ohio, Southern Illinois, UMASS and Akron

They got destroyed by Ohio State, Boise State, Cincy, Bowling Green and Central Michigan. Lost to Kent State by 16, and lost to Ball State. They also lost to a 1 - 7 Buffalo team to snap a long losing streak for the Bulls.

Till I see a defensive coach named, a system constructed, and an ability to stop somebody (ANYBODY) from dropping 21-28 points on us, I'm not calling anything a lock.

Re: Predictions For September 2013

Miami beat OU because OU had 10 starters out with injuries. If we'd have played OU at the end of the year, we'd have beaten them easily.

Miami loses a 4 years starter at QB plus many others.

Right now, looking at what we have back and what other teams should have coming back -

We'll lose to

OU - Tettleton, Foster and Blankenship are back.

Va Tech - Our basic BCS blowout

UTEP - never play well there

ECU - Their defense will likely still be better than ours. ugh!

Possibly
FIU
La Tech - although both teams lost a lot of starters and will have new coaching staffs. We do play them away. Anything is possible.

Sorry boys, I am bullish on the Herd these days and not drinking the kool aid.

but we could very easily go 1-3.  Like someone said until we hire a D coordinator and get a system in place nothing is a lock. Except Garden Webb. All the rest of the OCC will be challenges.

Looking at the non-conference I see 3-1 at first glance, but wouldn't be surprised to see us poop the bed and lose to Ohio.
