My thoughts (1 vote)
Not trying to be overly positive over a loss that I hate to witness.
I went into tonight really worried about the season, however, Pittman is the real deal, Scarver is the real deal, and Kane likes getting them the ball.
I think the thing we need is for the Tinnon from last year to emerge.
I actually went into tonight scared for the season, and come out of tonights game excited again.

We need a lot of things fixed or we may be about 8-8 in the league. Have to get better defensively, and have to get an offensive identity.
Fundamentally we are not good on either end. We are not aggressive. That's why teams are getting to the line so much against us, other teams dicate the game and we let them. Our bigs have to get more tenacious, Kane has to get to the rim, not only cause that's where he can score, but that's where he can find Scarver and Pittman.
Scarver is good standing still, but going to have to learn to create his own shot and move without the ball, but he can flat shoot standing still.
Pittman, he's a stud, he can make things happen.
Goff and Tinnon have been MIA and Spikes, he's fine playing against smaller guys, but guys taller and/or stronger, he's a puss!!

Re: My thoughts (1 vote)
We just lost by double digits to a subpar team (and please don't try to tell me wvu is good.)
Tonight was as poorly coached a basketball game as I have ever seen.
Pittman and Scarver can certainly play but it's not like they are good enough ro make up for Spikes and Goff night in and night out. Herrion needs to suck it up and let Hanner come off the bench as the 6th man and even bring Kambola in instead of Goff. We are getting NOTHING from our post players right now other than a few good minutes from Hanner.
Herrion needs to mix a zone in here and there. His stubborness hurt us tonigjt. I saw not ONE single positive from tonights game. We knew Pittman and Scarver would stroke it, yet we have lost 4 out of 9 basketball games to teams we probably should have beaten with proper preparation.

Should have played zone all night long. I have never coached anyone over the age of 9 in a bball game, and knew that.

I was there. Didnt hear the commentators. Just my observations. We need a point guard to get Kane the ball, not him getting people the ball. He's a slasher and a scorer, he's not doing that now. Hanner needs in more than he is. He has so much talent it's not even funny. He needs time to play and get a rhythm. I feel like when he's in the game he's handcuffed and scared to play. After all that, I watched that game in person and can't figure out how we lost. I LOVE Herrion buy coaching is the only answer. We had superior athletes

Re: My thoughts
Get ready for the CBI or CIT, 'cause thats where we are going, if lucky. I see 12-13 regular season losses for sure.

RE: My thoughts
I agree. We are a good team, but not a great team. I see us with minimum 10 losses and agree with sv that it will likely be closer to 12 or 13.

RE: My thoughts
I'm afraid we will be extremely lucky if we actually get into the CBI or CIT. It's just totally disheartening to have a much more talented team than almost every team we play and flat out get outplayed and outcoached by them all.

RE: My thoughts
I didn't see a "good" team out there last night (admittedly the first game I've watched this year).
Team I saw is gonna be mired around .500 or a little less.

A lot of talent, a lot of JUCO's.
Let them mesh, regular season may be up and down, but built for a good little CUSA run.

Team I saw is gonna be mired around .500 or a little less. With the style we play we'll win 19/20 games, but only because we have a few cake opponents coming up and we'll at least win 9 CUSA games. I've said all along, and I'm far from an expert, but Herrion doesn't run the right system for the guys he has on the floor. He either needs to change how he recruits or change how he lets his team play. We are a super, super athletic team, we have a lot of height (our smallest guy in the starting lineup is 6'4), we have long arms, we're quick, we are by and large poor shooters, we should be pressing or at least 1-3-1 half court trapping trying to force turnovers and get points/dunks on the break. We play half court man to man, we run a half court "offense", but we don't have the guys to do that. We need to play less like Princeton and more like Tark the Shark's Runnin' Rebels...

RE: My thoughts
Huggs schooled Herrion again last night. I said it before the game and I'll say it again now. Herrion should have had the Herd playing zone defense all night. WVU is so bad at shooting 3's that they had wide open looks and still didn't take them. We should have packed the lane and forced them to beat us from the outside.
On offense, we had such a height advantage with Kane and Pittman, but I can only remember a couple of times that either one of them posted up. I would have had Kane bring the ball up the court. Immediately throw the ball to Scarver and then had him post up WVU's point guard. When WVU's went to double-team Kane, he is a good enough passer to create easy shots for his teammates.
I like coach Herrion and I want to see him succeed, but he just isn't a good coach.

I agree.
Shocked that we didnt pack it in and play zone all night. Especially with our newly found depth issues, get some rest.

RE: My thoughts
Granted, I only saw the second half, but what I saw of Marshall's team, yes there needs to be another guard handling the point duties, like someone already said. Kane is being hand cuffed. With the style of players and playing WVU, yes, zone WVU and make them hurt you from outside. But I would of went to a full court press and used the athletes on the floor to fill the passing lanes and get up and down the floor. WVU's bigs would not of been able to keep up with Marshall's.
Good luck, because what I saw of WVU, they'll need luck too.
Let's Bring on The MOUNTAINEERS !!!!!!

RE: My thoughts
Last night was very frustrating. No way we shouldn't have played zone all night. They didn't even look to shoot. If we don't pick up the pace..we are in for a long season. Herrion has to quit being so stubborn.
