I mean "Poor" in a couple of ways.
#1, good luck against Florida State, I think they will need it.
#2 Poor Northern Illinois, will they make money even with the BCS bid? They are required to sell 17,500k tickets at $35-75 a pop, not too mention being required to stay in Miami a minimum of 4 days before the game. And the MAC does not assist their teams with tickets or travel, so even at a share of getting 5mil for appearing in the Orange Bowl, will they make a profit?

In the past year MAC has had Sweet 16( OU), CWS ( Kent), and now a BCS game (NIU).

Yet, people keep acting like CUSA is still on a higher level.

Much higher level.
And other conferences know it.
How many MAC teams have been poached to fill other conference spots in the past couple years????

The fact that Tulane was chosen makes it pretty obvious that actual athletic competitiveness wasn't really considered.

I think in terms of competitiveness C-USA and the MAC are on equal ground. In terms of Bowl slots C-USA wins that one for now, In term of TV money C-USA also wins that one now, In term of basketball spots to the big one they are on the same level.

Re: POOR Northern Illinois (1 vote)
I think as far as national perception, CUSA and the MAC are just about equal (especially after the change).
Two have-not conferences.

Re: POOR Northern Illinois (1 vote)
I disagree on a national level, C-USA is still above the MAC.
That's why C-USA being raided over the MAC, and why the MAC is being absolutely trashed all over network TV for the next 40 days, that will do nothing to help it's perception.
Even Herbstreit who I don't always agree with said, "I could understand a unbeaten or 1 loss team from the MWC, C-USA, WAC taking a BCS bowl spot, they've earned it in the past, but after living in the heart of MAC country all of my life until just 2 years ago, I can tell you it's an embarrassment to have a team from the MAC in the BCS. It's easy to go 11-1 or 12-0 in the MAC because you don't play anybody, case in point this year when NIU's biggest win is over a 1 win Kansas team."

Back to Poor Northern Illinois They are ranked higher in the BCS standings than any school from the Big Ten & any school from the Big East.
Good job NIU.. I will be rooting for them, I always root for the little guy. I would have rather seen them play the BE school, playing FSU I hope the game is competitive.

How many MAC teams have been poached to fill other conference spots in the past couple years???? I'd pretty much bet good money that OU has been approached by CUSA at some point and asked about their interest. Possibly Toledo as well. Just because they haven't jumped doesn't mean they haven't been approached. At this point going forward, I dont see how anyone can say CUSA is better than the MAC. Maybe we have higher TV payouts but that is the only thing we have on them now. And that may not last much longer. I just don't see why people trash the MAC. They know where they stand, they make it work. Sometimes I really wonder if our fans know where we stand in the grand scheme. We rely on what happened 10-15 years ago to pump us up, when in reality, that doesn't mean squat now. If you're looking backward, you aint looking forward.

FIFY FIFY OHIO STATE is not in the BCS standings. Yes, but it's misleading to say they're ranked higher than anyone in the B10 on a technicality.

They cheated remember.. Trying to argue NIU is better than anyone from the B10 or BE, which is what you were trying to do, is misleading when you leave a school out entirely.

That school was not eligible. I'm not saying they are better just ranked higher.

CUSA is being raided because we have(had) programs in bigger metro area. The myth of market is solely driving the bus right now.
