I don't want Dunlap. He already left the program once to go back to WVU to be a position coach. I do believe he is number one on Doc's list. He was the one who Doc wanted to be d-coordinator when Doc got the job.

We better get a proven DC from a BCS school, or I am pulling my money from the program.

RE: Dunlap (2 votes)
He couldn't be any worse than Rippon. BUT, he left us once to become a POSITION coach at WVU. Him and Snyder seemed to bump heads at times philosophically about the defense. I don't think Snyder was much of a head coach, but he did know his defense and developed the front 7 players, and had a history of that at Minnesota and Ohio State. I don't see anything that Dunlap has really done that stands out to me.
Personally i would like to find someone who has had success in todays football landscape of spread offenses and high powered offenses. Elko from Bowling Green and Guidry from WKU had some nice success this past year with their defenses. I think there is more talent on defense than our fans are giving credit to, we need someone who can develop that talent and scheme well. I'm not sure Dunlap is THAT guy, but hey, it would be an improvement over what we had.

Where is Steve Dunlap now?
What about Rick Minter. Wasn't he a D coordinator when he was here? I thought we should have kept him.

Minter was at UK. I seem to remember a time when Minter was here that rumors went around that Snyder took over calling defensive plays from Minter.
I don't want him. I want a coach and don't care about any "ties" to Marshall. I want someone that can develop talent and scheme.

It's time for Marshall to quit living in the Mountaineer shadow. I say no to anymore WVU sloppy seconds.

We didnt just let him go, he left for more money.
Why would you want Bobby back over Dunlap. Dont get me wrong, i think it would be a marketing masterpiece, but i dont think we will pull that trigger.

Maybe he could teach Doc how to coach this talent we have.

No offense to Bobby, but he has been away for quite some time.
I would love it. Why? Because it would bring some of the fair weather peeps back, and right now, unfortunately, as a program, we need them.

Re: Dunlap (9 votes)
I am going on the record as saying I do NOT want to hire Steve Dunlap. Been there and done that. He is old hat.
I want George Barlow to be given a chance. He is a Marshall alum. He has been a DC at James Madison when they won a national championship in 2004. He has been on the staff at Vanderbilt. Look at what they are doing. It is unreal what Vandy has done in football the last two years. How about we go after a guy that has been on staffs that are up-and-coming and really producing QUALITY results?
Barlow is an up-and-comer. Dunlap is old hat and a guy on the tail end of his career. Barlow is a Marshall alum who might want to be a D-I DC. Dunlap was here and left for a position job with Bill Stewart. Barlow is coming from a program that is exceeding expectations. Dunlap is at a program where the defense is lousy and he was in charge of a special teams unit that looked less than stellar. Barlow comes from a program not known for winning but is doing better than ever expected. Dunlap is coming from a staff that appears to be in turmoil and a program that could be going down.
The defense sucked eggs. When you are this bad, then you need a bold and fresh approach....not "been there-done that". Barlow is also a heck of a recruiter. He is Co-Recruiting coordinator at Vanderbilt. Rivals has Vandy's class currently at 15th......at Vandy!
I am sorry but Barlow>>>>>>>>>>> >Dunlap.

I am sorry but Barlow>>>>>>>>>>> >Dunlap. Barlow's cost >>>>>>>>> Dunlap's cost I'd rather not have Dunlap, I feel like for what we can pay out best option is to scour the FBS ranks for a solid DC and offer him $175,000 or so to be the DC here. With the way our offense performed this year and all the coaching changes out there, we may have a few other coaches leave for other jobs, including Legg.

RE: Dunlap (1 vote)
I'm okay with Legg leaving, I think Peterson would do fine taking over as solo OC. Frees up more money for Seider and a good DC.
I do NOT want Dunlap. If Doc hires Dunlap, I'm going to be very, very upset.

No to Dunlap. That would be Rippon Part 2. Screw that. I think Barlow still has family here. Yeah, he may take a paycut but he could live well on 175K here. Plus add D1 DC to his resume and its his alma mater. At least give the man a call. I fear this is a done deal. Dunlap has already been hired. If so, MU deserves what it gets for going the buddy system and cheap.

It may very well end up being Dunlap, but knowing people that would/should know if it is a done deal they're clueless about who our next DC will be, so I feel like it is something that isn't already a done deal.

We arent the ones interviewing, we arent the ones who know the potential applicants. Our fan base wants to constantly through this "good ole boy" system around out there. Dunlap may in fact be the best candidate.
