Re: GAMEDAY THREAD: LSU at SMU (8 PM, ESPN)

What started in promising fashion for the Tigers ended poorly in Dallas Monday evening.

LSU, staked to a 40-35 halftime lead, fell victim to an SMU avalanche early in the second stanza, ultimately dropping an 80-67 decision inside Moody Coliseum in the second round of the NIT.

The Mustangs exited the halftime break shot out of a cannon, authoring a 26-9 run fueled by sophomore guard Nic Moore, who scored the home team's opening 11 points of the second half.

Adding to Moore's 16 points and five assists were four other SMU players in double figures, including 16 points from guard Nick Russell and 13 points to go with six rebounds for forward Markus Kennedy.

LSU junior forward Johnny O'Bryant, playing possibly his final game in the purple and gold, led the Bayou Bengals with 16 points and seven rebounds. FreshmenJarell Martin and Jordan Mickey combined for 24 points while senior Andre Stringer poured in 15 points, on 5-of-10 shooting from deep, in his collegiate swan song.

SMU (25-9, 12-6) advances to the quarterfinals of the NIT, where Larry Brown's crew will host the winner of Arkansas vs. California.

The Tigers end their 2013-14 season at 20-14 overall, 9-9 in Southeastern Conference play.

Johnny Jones is now 39-26 in his two seasons at the helm in Baton Rouge.

Re: LSU's season ends with 80-67 loss at SMU

I thought the first half was arguably our best half (at least offensively) of the year.  For whatever reason, we didn't match SMU's intensity in the 2nd half to end our year.  When do you expect JOB and Mickey to announce their NBA intentions?  Hopefully JM will return like he said last week.
