2014 PAC-12 Schedule Hopes

2014 PAC-12 Schedule Hopes

Last year the schedule was pretty crazy, not playing a home game in over a month, two byes within three weeks, playing two tough teams in a row twice (@ Washington, @ USC and then Oregon, @ASU).

Here is to hoping that the schedule makers are a little kinder to U of A this year.

Hopes

The two bye weeks are spread out, and do not start the PAC-12 season with a bye.

Never go more than 21 days between home games.

Do not play Oregon or UCLA or USC the week before ASU.

Washington State, Utah or Colorado first game of PAC-12 play to get the new QB comfortable

Any other hopes?

That our team shows up to play at all games. No more WSU games.

Is prefer a bye the week before ASU.

For sure possible as Washington and Washington State and Oregon and Oregon State played on Black Friday.

That would be great.

The T-Cup Saturday evening after Thanksgiving allows students and others who have traveled away from Arizona for the holiday more time to return for the game.

The Friday Evening game allows those Arizona & ASU Alumni who travel to Arizona for Thanksgiving a better opportunity to see it...

Although I don't know this for certain, but my guess is that close to 90% of the Rabid Student Ticket holders are from some part of Arizona based on the Student Body being 72.7%(ASU) and 62.2%(UofA) comprised of In-State students.

Since Arizona State University began playing the UofA in 1958 there have been 56 games. Only 13 of those games have been played on Friday after Thanksgiving and 1 of them was played on a Thursday in December. In the 39 games played on Saturday, ASU is 24-16-1. Of the 14 games not played on Saturday, the UofA is 8-6. The first non Saturday game was played in 1977, but no others until 1993. The ASU streak of (9) wins in a row 65-73 were all on Saturday. The UofA streak of 5 wins in a row 82-86 were all on Saturday. Again the 1 tie was played on Saturday. After 1993, there were 3 consecutive games played on Friday, then another 2 in 97-98, then the longest run of Friday games (6) from 2000-2005, the UofA went 2-4. Only 1/4 of the games since ASU started playing the UofA have been played on a day other than traditional Saturday after Thanksgiving. I'd have to say anything less than 50% is not a tradition. However 31 of of 56 is.

I liked that day after Thanksgiving game.  Leftovers and cold brewskis. Pumpkin pie and the Cats.

Friday probably gets the game on ESPN and off the PAC12 Network.  Pretty sad when everyone that can't get to the game, can't watch it either.  Larry Scott has to get the PAC12 more coverage and work something out with DirectTV.

Actually if both teams compete for the south championship, ESPN puts this game on Saturday prime time.
