Jordin Mayes...

... plays his last games at McKale this week.

Thank you Jordin for being a true four year Wildcat.

We hope that your future is filled with success.

Still a lot of basketball to be played and you will play a part in it.

Absolutely.  Get this guy on the floor.   I would love to see him get 10 or more.

Re: Jordin Mayes...

RugbyCat on the premium forums suggested that Jordin should start his last home game.  I think it's a hell of an idea.  Boyle started Ben Mills in our game against CU, and it was great to see the player honored that way.

Re: Jordin Mayes...

I think he will start against Stanford though Mills starting was a nice idea, not great in the actual game situation, but maybe nothing would have been. Mayes looks like a different player than a few weeks ago, looks quite good now.

4 yr player who never was in trouble, a true Wildcat and hoping the best is still yet to come.

Re: Jordin Mayes...

It would certainly be a nice gesture if Jordin Mayes were to be named a starter against Stanford. However, I seem to remember a Senior Day when Lute started his Seniors instead of his regular lineup and it resulted in an unexpectedly close game that was not decided until the very end. He never did it again.

Re: Jordin Mayes...

Funny, I remember Roy Williams of NC starting his seniors in the opening minutes of Duke Carolina in Chapel Hill on senior day a few years back

He used one of his TO after 1 or two possessions and got his starters back in, but its certainly risky

UNC was fortunate to win at the tail end of the game to pull it out

This is obviously a different deal because J Mayes is 1 player who has been getting minutes anyway & has played well lately, so would not hurt to start Mayes over York for the first few minutes

Re: Jordin Mayes...

Starting Jordin against Stanford is an ABSOLUTE must.  Four year players are rare and Jordin stuck it out and has contributed in great ways.  His play is also better as he has cracked the top 8.  Congratulations Jordin Mayes!!!
Sincerely,

I'll accept whatever happens.  Nevertheless, I am very happy to see Jordin fight throuh his issues.  It is a great example of never giving up.

Indeed, it is, Santiago! :-)

And not only for young men! :-)

There are MANY on this board who gave up on him, just like they once gave up on Brendon, just like they once gave up on Jamelle, etc., etc., etc.

It REALLY sickens me when I read posts on here, indicating that a Wildcat "fan" has given up on one of the kids. It is not only hurtful to the young man that the "fan" purports to support, but it also is COMPLETELY stupid, in light of the MANY examples of Wildcats who just took a little longer for the light bulb to go on.....................................or to fully recover from an injury.

But, Jordin did NOT give up, even while many around him did, and now he deserves his moments in the Sun :-)

He should play LIBERALLY in these next two games - his last ever at McKale - and then we shall see what he does with his opportunity :-)

Unless it is  hugely detrimental to the team. JM will start.
Most seniors start the last game.

But I agree    start at Trees game.

Start the kid against Stanford.  Not only is it the a nice thing to do, but Mayes seems to be playing better of late so I don't really see it as a risk.

Yes, give Jordin a start.  He will give back to the coach.  And, don't make it a short token start.

Re: Jordin Mayes...

Definitely start him against Stanford and run some plays to get him some early open looks!
I predict Mayes will come up huge in clutch moments in post-season.

Looking forward to the ovation on Sunday.

Re: Jordin Mayes...

Jordin Mayes to START today per Star.

“People come in and leave everywhere,” Mayes said. “As far as me as a person, I’m not in control over who comes in and who doesn’t. I just wanted to play.

My injury was a little setback, and I wanted to come back and redeem myself from injury and compete.

“I’m not going to run away from the competition or anything like that.

I made that decision.”

Jordin Mayes will always be a true Wildcat

He looked very promising, until he hurt his foot a few years back.  Since then he's filled in and been a quiet contributor.  I wish he had one more year.

Hope he starts today.

Thanks Jordin!!!!!
