The only number that matters after this game.

The only number that matters after this game.

5-8

I really could care less we won this game. What does it matter? At best we finish 8-8, .500 ball and miss the playoffs. WOOOOPITY DOOO. If people are so stoked on a single win, how about the 8 losses we racked up before it? How about only having 4 wins in 12 games?

This is just like last years Baltimore game. Get ready for Dean to save some money and retain the losers.

5-8

Dean has an out with Norv, he simply will not re-new his contract. Now with AJ he could keep him, which would guarantee a fan revolt.

Supposedly after the game, Spanos gave the game ball to Norv.

Let's just hope that was a parting gift! frown

Re: The only number that matters after this game.

I dont think it was at all. In fact, it's very telling to me.

Dean supposedly loves Norv. And the fact he is rewarding the guy in front of the team with recognition after just their 5th win in 13 games speaks volumes about the loser Dean Spanos is. I remember in HS beating a team we were supposed to lose to and while everyone was cheering in the bus on the way home our HC looked pissed. I asked him what was up and he said, "It's one game and you guys are celebrating like you've won the season". ****, if my HS coach can be like that, why isnt the owner of a 5-8 team that has dissapointed its fanbase, missed the playoffs for the 3rd straight year and constantly made the highlight reels for all the WRONG reasons this year?

Dean is a putz beyond reason. Giving game balls to a 5-8 coach?????? IDIOT!

The Steeler game ball was awarded because Norv was the first Charger coach to EVER beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh during the regular season. In 14 tries.

And for that he got a well-earned trophy. It wasn't a game ball for the season.

I'm sure there will be an asterisk next to this season when people review Turners coaching career.

"Well, he was a below average coach, but he did beat Pitt in Pitt".

Impressive to some.

It's not about how many times you get knocked down.  It's whether or not you are willing to get back up.

The only thing I liked about this game is it showed we give Rivers some time and he can win for us and that we do have some of the talent we need to win.And that we don't have a total rebuild on our hands.I think our D is stout and can get even better with a few key additions .Our O-line does need to be overhauled and I think with Brown returning and with the addition of a sproles like back can be very very good once again. This team very seldom loses big and with better and more aggressive play calling can run with anyone.

Not being sarcastic, just asking.

Are these reasons to keep the HC and GM of the team?

Look at my post again real close did it ever say that I want to keep Turner? no it doesn't I think he needs to go.Along with Hal Hunter .Not Sure about AJ I think we need a Coach in house before we go looking for a GM. With the right Moves Rivers can be a Pro bowl QB again and the Chargers can be contenders next year

This team Needs a more aggressive HC then Norv .I actually wouldn't mind him as a OC where the head coach makes the hard decisions and is in charge of everything else.Like 2 minute O challenges and so on Norv excelled in Dallas because JJ had balls and Norv was under his thumb

Re: The only number that matters after this game.

Or perhaps you just like digging up controversies when they don't really exist.

No one in the world believes that Norv's victory over the Steelers somehow overshadows his overall Chargers coaching record. Sure, it can be fun to pretend otherwise, but no one has stated such.

Giving Norv the game ball for this victory is quite normal. It's how it's done in sports. If a baseball pitcher with a record of 3 - 17 pitches a no-hitter in his last start of the season he would get the game ball AND would be sent packing at the end of the season. If a .198 hitter hits for the cycle or pops 5 homers in a game - he gets the game ball. An over-the-hill and useless hockey player gets a hat trick in a regular season game. You guess it - game "ball" (puck). So? Why does that bother you so much?

Must you create strife in every thread in order to enjoy these boards?

Your being way over the top dramatic with the strife comment. I post enough on "vanilla" topics as well and debate my point more than just hit n run commentary. Why dont you try getting over me?

And yes, people in the world do believe Norv should stay. The posts over on the brand site are already in circulation from the moderators there and the UT is already starting to make a case should Norv win out.

You didnt see this exact scenario play out last year starting with the Baltimore game and Norv getting a pardon after a 6 game losing streak? Yeah,,,,, you did.

So less talk about me and more about the topic? - thanks!

Norv didn't get a pardon due to winning some games last year, Spanos kept him due to Rivers and others defending him.
I don't believe Rivers will do that again this year. From what I understood from his last interview, he made it clear, that this was a win for the guys on the team and not for Norv Turner.
Btw, you ARE a bit overdramatic and you should start using your own advice and
"Take a chill pill" once in a while! biggrin

You literally entered this thread and commented to me about a comment I made to another poster. HOLY CRAP. That isnt dramatic? What are you rescuing him from... the mean bad poster LightEmUp?

Why not end at Norv Turner?

RE: The only number that matters after this game.

Couple Articles for those that dont think we are being setup to see another year of Norv if he wins out - These are 3 of the top articles on the UT Chargers site right now. 3!!

Why the expectations on Norv are not fair.
www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/d...norv-and-buddy/

A feel good article about the win and Norv being a victim.
www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/d...son-turner-era/

From another UT article.
"Turner doesn’t much talk about this, but he deserves much credit. He managed the game, too. Maybe too late, but he forced the run in order to chip away yardage, setting his team up favorable distances on those numerous third downs and setting up the Steelers defense.

Do you realize that if the Chargers win out, they will finish with 60 victories in the Norv Turner era? That includes playoffs, and it encompasses the most successful six-year period in team history."
