Cason has allowed the 2nd most completions in NFL

Cason has allowed the 2nd most completions in NFL

WOW!! No surprise tho. He has allowed 32 completions on 46 targets. That is 70% being completed for 388 yards and 3 TD's.  We need help. I hope Wright can take over once his ankle is 100%.

Great. Another wasted 1st round pick on a CB. It's Sammy Davis version 2.

I think even Marcus Gilchrist will be an upgrade over Cason. I know that's not saying much but he can't be any worse.

Actually, I think Gilchrist is even worse, but we just got him in the 2nd round last year. I'll patiently apply the 3 year rule to him.

I agree.  Gilchrist at least has a chance to develop.  Cason will not be back next year, IMO.

RE: Cason has allowed the 2nd most completions in NFL

I respectfully disagree. Some recent examples - Although he allowed TDs to both Colston & Stokley in consecutive weeks, Gilchrist played them both aggressively and was merely inches away from making plays on both occasions. Both were just fantastic tosses by Brees and Manning. Heck, Colston's arm bar across Gilchrist's throat was way more of an offensive PI than Gates' supposed violation. And the TD pass to Stokley was just vintage Peyton - exquisitely placed despite great coverage by Gilchrist.

Conversely, taking those same game examples, I recall Cason making one particularly egregious half-assed attempt at defending Colston in the end zone in New Orleans, drawing a PI as well. I mean, he didn't even leave his feet in what was an unbelievably pathetic show of timidness. Against Denver, he was lined up 8 yards away from Eric Decker, who was the back receiver on a right side bunch formation. By the way, Denver was on the 7 yard line. I don't know that there's a more obvious target to pick on than Antoine Cason in that situation (well, really any situation for that matter). Of course, Cason screens himself off using his own man & it's 7 for Decker. There was another 30+ gainer for Decker with Cason covering him down the left sideline that was called back due to an offensive PI that did not happen.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say the main reason Gilchrist does not 'start' over Cason is because the latter is even lousier as a nickel defender, as we're all too painfully aware.

Is Jammer number 1?

After last week's game, some players are going to be losing the depth chart battle.

IMO it's time to give Reyes the keys to the DE position.

Gilchrist should get a shot at CB.

And I'd like to see more 2 TE sets with Rosario and Green mixing it up with Gates since our WR's aren't performing.  Rivers needs a "short game" right now as well.  These deep passes have to stop until he has better communication/chemistry with Meachem/Royal.

Most intelligent assessment I have read in some time. Awesome, Doc!

Completely agree Yantha. This should have already happened, in the Broncos game...I was expecting that it would, I even changed my pick to the Chargers and wrote I thought Norv would throw a "wrinkle" into the game plan. Sadly I was very disappointed. Let's hope someone, somewhere within the Chargers organization realizes this too!

I hope you're right. I would like Wright at 1 corner, free agent at the other, 2nd round pick pick playing nickel with Jammer at safety.
