Corners
Man, if we could just get one or two above average corners next offseason between FA and the Draft, I think our D could be San Fran elite with the way our front 7 is constructed. Just imagine if we also drafted Teo to replace Spikes, my goodness.

Re: Corners
No kidding. Cason is pathetic, and Jammer isn't much better.

RE: Corners
OMFG Cason is so awful! Just being victimized for the 2nd week in a row.
I said it before, got criticized, I'll say it again. I'd go CB in the 1st round above OT.

Re: Corners
I think we might see a move before the offseason. AJ knows his job is on the line and with the new, later trade deadline there should be some guys available. If we can make a move for a solid corner to push Cason to the bench I think this could be a top 5-10 defense.

Re: Corners
How about offering up a pick for Mike Jenkins in Dallas? He's likely gone at the end of the year so I could see a 5th getting the job done. Re: Corners
If Wright comes back from injury, he'll beat out Cason by the end of the season.

Re: Corners
You guys are talking about waiting til next season to get a corner I am ready to make a trade!! Cason is not the answer and we might as well put Gilchrest in until Wright is healthy. Everyone talks about Clary but I say that Cason is the achilles heal of the this team. He is soft and tentative. He left Bowe wide open behind him all day long. Casel overthrew one of them and when you are up by more than one score late in the 4th to bite on that stop and go and let Bowe score is just plain BAD! I think that Jammer is playing well enough. A few to many penalties but he is bigger this year and making bone crushing hits. Jammer does not have the quickness as he once did so they way he makes tackles I think next year is finally the time he moves to safety.

Re: Corners
Cason COULD be the "achilles heel" but, in all honesty, our front 7 stepped it up today and forced many of those turnovers. It's our offense that struggled all day to run the ball and march down the field. While I want a CB, I want a $ OL even more.

Re: Corners
I blame Norv and the O-line for that. Norv stuck with Battle for way too long in the second half just to send Mathews a message. shoehater wrote:Cason COULD be the "achilles heel" but, in all honesty, our front 7 stepped it up today and forced many of those turnovers. Re: Corners
SoCal, I totally agree on both your points. I also think Norv went into a Martylike protect your lead mentality by trying to grind the clock. That makes things too predictable.

Re: Corners
I still like Battle. I think he might not have the burst Mathews does, but he runs guys over, wears down the defense, and most importantly holds on to the ball. I think a 60/40 split in favor of Mathews will work and help this team immensely, with Battle getting most of the goal line stuff.

Re: Corners
I don't mind Battle getting goal line carries, as we saw today, he was effective in that role, but there's no way I think it should be 60/40. From 20 to 20 I want the rock in Mathews' hands. Re: Corners
Nobody! But I can dream about it. At this point a decent back up would be better to start then Cason! syxwunine wrote:

Re: Corners
I am ok with starting Battle both to send a message to Mathews and the Chiefs who gave him up. He did fine. Did you guys forget he scored two touchdowns? I also think putting Mathews in later when they were tired was a good move as well. It should not have been as close but the pick by Rivers and Cason playing Ole hurt us as well.

Re: Corners
Just looking at some guys who are set to be free agents at the end of the season on teams that are struggling to see who could become available. So far I've found the following.
Derek Cox and Rashean Mathis on the Jags. Sean Smith in Miami Jerraud Powers in Indy Joselio Hanson, Ron Bartell, Pat Lee and Shawntae Spencer are all set to be free agents in Oakland. Aqib Talib in Tampa Bay

I think starting Battle, and letting him wear down the defense, and then bringing in Mathews later, with fresh legs, can win a lot of games. Battle is a load and a half....runs over people, he'll be the hammer, and then let crazy legs come in and take over. In the meantime, spread the ball around to everyone, and getting Brown and Brinkley in on some screens and short passes, works too. This offense, if utilized correctly, can be very effective, that is, if Norv would just get out of the way.
