We should pursue CB Mike Jenkins

Finally a guy with some talent at a position of need might be on the block...and nobody here is mentioning it?
If we can get a reasonable long term deal done with this guy, I'd give up a 4th, maybe even a 3rd. Right away I'd say he's the best CB we have, and I think it would make Jammer expendable.

I like where your head's at, Syx. But do we have enough wiggle room under the cap is the question. And if the Lord of No Rings is done with the OL, we are in trouble. I don't, however, believe it makes Quentin expendable. I believe it moves him to strong safety which, to my way of thinking, would be perfect. syxwunine wrote: http://profootballtalk.nbcspor...s-to-be-traded/

Re: We should pursue CB Mike Jenkins
I agree with red's concern regarding cap room, not sure we have it as is indicated by the Winslow non-interest. I'd be okay with trading a late pick for Jenkins and I'm a huge fan of creating competition at spots where we are weak at, but at the end of the day, I haven't seen anything from Jenkins that tells me he's any better than Cason. redlegman wrote: I like where your head's at, Syx. Winslow Jr is an expensive me first player being held together by sticks and spit. His cap hit this year is $4.6M this year and continues to elevate in '13 and '14 which is huge for a #2 TE who doesn't like to block, I doubt anybody but SEA had any real interest in tradimg for him. Mike Jenkins is set to make $1.6M this year, he made the Pro Bowl as a rookie so you know he has upside, and at the least he is a solid #2 CB who the Cowboys are ready to give up on because he didn't break out in his 3rd year (due mostly to injuries) and they just signed Carr and Claiborn. I think they are cutting the cord way too quick, there is real potential benefit to grabbing a guy with his talent for a mid-round pick.

Re: We should pursue CB Mike Jenkins
I actually completely agree with Syx here on this one. For a 4th round pick to go after someone with the potential that MJ has.
It's a bit of gamble but if they could get him with a 4th and he does pan out to what he was early he could solve a couple of issues.
1) If Cason pans out you now have two starters in MJ and AC.
2) If Cason doesn't pan out, you at least have Jenkins there to lighten that load as he could be the heir to Jammer or the #2 until they figure out if they have another starter in Wright or Gilchrist.
So if they could restructuring his contract, to get him in and get a deal like the 4th round that Syx is talking about, I'm all for it.
Sidenote: Jenkins had issues when the Cowboys changed DC's. Now I'm not saying Rob is bad DC or Wade is a bad DC but Wade's version of the 3-4 which by the way is the version that SD currently runs is a tad different than the version ran by the Ryan brothers. So I think a change of scenery would do Jenkins some good.

Re: We should pursue CB Mike Jenkins
As a matter of principle, I think 90% of the time a guy "becomes available" like this, there are one or more good reasons why it is happening that fans of the guy's new team ignore initially, but find out about all too well later on. Now while that is my general stance, and I almost never join the "all excited about getting the newly available guy" bandwagon, this is one of the rare exceptions for me.
Jenkins has the talent, and can play immediately.
This team needs another corner, and an immediately good and contributing one, too, not a project.
If they indeed can get him for just a middle round or later pick, the reason(s) Dallas is shopping him become pretty well moot from a risk perspective.
All of that adds up to seriously looking into and considering him to me.

Jenkins was not so bueno last year. My son is also a Cowboy fan and if he thinks he sucked last year then he really did suck!

I've heard that he was injured for about 8 games with ankle, knee, and shoulder injuries and played through most of them, so maybe thats part of it. But honestly I didn't watch the Cowboys DBs that close. Another excuse I'm hearing is that Rob Ryan is mostly at fault for hanging their secondary out to dry. Either way I'd give him a shot, its hard for me to believe he could have been worse than Jammer or Cason last year.
