It's like getting a Top Ten pick....

Love the pick.

But just goes to show that AJ Smith doesn't believe in drafting offensive line early in the draft. He believes you can fill in anyone on that line, and make it work....I firmly disagree.

Love it. I wanted him early on but thought that he would be gone before we picked with the way his stock seemed to be rising. Happiest I've been with a Chargers pick in a long time.

I think we're lucky he fell to us. I can't help but be concerned a bit by the potential bust factor though. DeCastro was Nick Mangold, Jake Long safe...

Re: Melvin Ingram to the Bolts at #18

I basically wrote him off for most of the lead up to the draft, but honestly just TODAY, I started to become a believer in him.

He'll be interesting to watch, and I wonder where he fits in.

We brought in Jarrett Johnson, who will start alongside Phillips, but BARNES was really good behind LaBoy last year (on JJ's side).....

So to me, this brings up my thought again, about Phillips role this year, if he does not get into the backfield.  Does Ingram and Barnes come on the field at the same time, taking out JJ and Phillips?

I have no idea.  All I know is that we've got a guy that should be able to make some noise.

I like him a lot, I think he'll be a good player for us, I just don't know that he's a great pass rusher.

So I'm happy, but not ecstatic. At least we didn't take Harrison Smith.

Melvin is one of the most popular players for the Gamecocks in many years. Y'all are getting a soon to be fan favorite. Great kid, never any problem on or off the field.

In HS, at various times, he played QB (can throw the ball 70 yards and is very accurate up to at leat 20 yards), DS, Kicker, punter, RB.

He can do a standing back flip, too, at his size. Superb ahlete.

Yes YEs  Yes  Yes.   This was my number one guy.   A steal at 18.   I was the first one on this board to rave about him.   Go ahead and save this post because I wont be eating crow.  I  am as happy as a clam!

This is the most excited I've been since we drafted Shawn Merriman. Ingram is a top 10 pick and could get double digit sacks his rookie year. We scored big time this year.

Hopefully you'll be eating clams and dishing out the crow.

Re: Melvin Ingram to the Bolts at #18

I don't know, I hope he turns out to be a stud. But I just don't see a natural pass rusher. He got almost all his sacks from either the DT position or from coverage sacks when the QB has to hold onto the ball for too long.

He is a very athletic dude for his size tho, that's why I don't understand why he was slow to get off the line. He seems to be one of the last to get off the line too often.

But either way I'm rooting for the kid, he is great in space that is for sure.
