Mark Barron at 13?
What say you fellow board members? I know this was talked about by many here but now that it's a possible scenario that has been talked about by the FO, how would you really feel if AJ were to jump up to 13 to get Barron? http://network.yardbarker.com/...barron/10627366 https://twitter.com/#!/UTKevin...575401597681664

Re: Mark Barron at 13?
If the Chargers didn't have so many holes I would say go for it, but with so many holes, the Chargers need every single pick.
I could see AJ trading up and giving up a pick next year....mortgaging the future, because he may not be here next year...which kind of scares me because he's desperate.
I think a great player will fall to them at 18....Stay put....see who falls.
I would go offensive line....but everyone is crying pass rush. Right now I am listening to 1090am and all the draft talk and so far everyone is saying Perry from USC. I agree pass rush is important but if the Chargers can find a pass rushing gem in the second round or beyond, sure up the offensive line if a guy like Martin falls to them in the first, that's the smart thing to do...but that's just me.

Re: Mark Barron at 13?
That single move might actually make me think AJ has finally turned the corner on his terrible drafts as of late. We finally get that dominant starting SS. And yes, we still would have enough picks to fill other holes. SS is arguably the only position we need a starter for......... not counting RT since Clary is being paid a BIG chunk of money, and WILL be our starter no matter how much we all hate that fact (myself included). We don't need a starting OLB. We have Phillips and Johnson for that role. But what we need is a situational pass rush specialist, and there are plenty outside the first round, even second round. All the other picks are to add depth and in true AJ style, I expect a boatload of round 4+ picks spent on O-linemen. AJ won't change..... so I'm at least hoping for a Blue Chip starting SS that can be THE identity of the defense for years to come. Thisfrickinguy wrote: What say you fellow board members?

Re: Mark Barron at 13?
No trading up for me. We have to many holes to fill to be giving up picks for 1 player IMO.

Re: Mark Barron at 13?
If the Chargers are going to move up...Why not for the DT Cox? Honestly, we need a real DT presence, and it would free up everyone else on defense, just like when we had Jamal. Coach Kentera is talking about it right now on 1090am and I agree.

Re: Mark Barron at 13?
Well I have mixed feelings. I agree with Honk that we have holes to fill and you know we would at least lose our 2nd and a future pick to move up to get him. The question is will Barron be a playmaking starting SS and even an eventual pro bowl player? It would fill a huge need but it would be risky. So far with AJs trade up moves: 1) Hester- over all bad move for an average player 2) Weddle Cost a bit but well worth it 3) Mathews- If he can stay healthy and hold on to the dam ball It was a good move 4) Barron??????

Re: Mark Barron at 13?
Im OK with it not happy or angry, It's a huge need and this pick can give us the best safety duo in the game AND to get the 13 pick from from the Cardinals we need to make up a difference of 250 pts according to the draft value chart...we can do that by swapping our 2nd (49 overall) for their 3rd (80 overall) and giving up our 5th rd pick Not as steep a price as I thought but we still are on the short end of the stick IMO...We have to wait 60+ picks after 13th overall to make our next selection and we lose a 5th...there are a lot of talented players in the second round and then around midway in the 3rd there is a steep drop off in talent. So essentially we are getting 1 guaranteed day-one starter instead of 2. Thisfrickinguy wrote: What say you fellow board members?

Personally, I like Brandon Thomas equally as much as I like Cox, and Thomas is a mid second rounder. Also, why trade up for Cox when there's a realistic chance of landing Poe at 18?

Cox is a good player and Yantha makes a good point. yantha wrote:

Re: Mark Barron at 13?
I'm hearing that Cox is a beast....and a step above the rest.
In a 3-4 the DT is super important and the Chargers haven't been getting much of a push up front and is a huge problem, this could fix that problem immediately. But then again the Chargers have been grooming Cam Thomas now for a few years, maybe they think he's ready...let's hope so!

Re: Mark Barron at 13?
Need I remind everyone April is liars month. When was the last time A.J. broadcast his intentions to move up? By releasing this morsel he has something else in mind, IMO. Can't wait for Thursday to find out who it is he really wants.

RE: Mark Barron at 13?
i dont think AJ is desperate otherwise he wouldve kept VJ, even if AJ gets fired he left this team in a good state BUT i agree with honk, there is no way i would want us to trade up
maybe unless Barron is a sure all pro ...but still id stay put or trade down

Re: Mark Barron at 13?
If we drafted Cox, I would be still happy, but not in a trade up, and Cox is a 3-4 DE, not a Nose Tackle candidate. He's just under 300 lbs. Chargerhonk wrote: I'm hearing that Cox is a beast....and a step above the rest.

Re: Mark Barron at 13?
The way I see it.
Phillips, Johnson, Green and Clary are better football players than Atari Bigby is (in that order).
Therefore SS is our biggest need.
Barron has been ranked to go as high as pick number EIGHT in some mocks, and the "talking heads" agree (for what it's worth).
So....... to me it fills a need we've had since Rodney left, defines our triple D defense, and really, at 13 Barron would be a steal IMO.
Frankly I don't think he lasts past the Bills if Kuechly is off the board when they pick, so forget about the Cowboys. We might have to trade up to 9....... not 13, and I doubt that will happen.

Re: Mark Barron at 13?
No way do i want to move up, stay put and pickup harrison smith by trading down and picking up another pick. He is a very heady player also and would be a huge upgrade to gregory.

Re: Mark Barron at 13?
Why dont we instead trade back to end of first round and get a pass rusher like McClellan and with the extra pick trade up to the early 2nd round and get a SS Harrison Smith?

Re: Mark Barron at 13?
It takes two to tango and any dance partner for moving up is going to want a lot of love. However, another team wanting to move up to 18 puts us in a much better position to get Smith...and Smith will do. He might even be better than Barron in our scheme. Who knows?
