Re: Rolling MOCKS
First post combine mock and FA aquisitions. It also has a trade senario where they trade back and get another 2nd and 4th.
FAs- DT/DE Tommie Harris WR VJ OT Jared Gaither C Nick Hardwick FB Jacob Hester WR Robert Meachem OLB/DE Anthony Spencer S LaRon Landry
1st- OLB/DE Whitney Mercilus- He is a risk being a 1 year wonder but he has the potential to be great with his measurables.
2nd- OG/OT- Kelechi Osemele- If they are happy with Greene at G they better get somebody to push him to be better. If Greene wins then Osemele can challege Clary for RT as well.
2nd- Alameda Ta'amu- A big NT that will rotate with Big Cam. Having those guys rotate will help our line alot.
3rd- ILB Nigel Bradham- I know we just drafted Mouton but this guy is strong, good speed and hits like a truck. He would instantly play ST and be good depth at the LB position
4th- RB Ronnie Hillman- Sproles replacement.... Why not bring another SDSU star and have him grow. He's gained 11 lbs and did not lose his speed what so ever.
4th- Derrick Wolfe(trade)- This guy is strong and improved each of the last 3 years at Cincy. He is underrated in my book. He has a motor that won't quit.
4th- S Kelcie McCray(Sproles)- A big and fast safety that can contribute on ST. Eventually be Weddle's partner in crime.
5th- WR T.J. Graham- The speedy slot WR with returner experience we need.
6th- TE James Hanna- The TE that we need to come and learn the ropes from Gates. Hanna has great size and speed. Needs to work on his hands but thats what Joyner is for.
6th- WR Greg Childs- Before this guy went down last year with his injury he was unstoppable. If he can get that confidence back he would be a steal. He wouldn't be rushed into producing this season and with Floyd leaving after this season it would be perfect. VJ, Meachem, Brown, Graham and Childs would be a great receiving core for the future.
7th- OLB Miles Burris- Not sure if he will be here but some people have him pegged as a 7th. If he is they need to snag him quick.

Re: Rolling MOCKS
Yes, i really think VJ is gone if we don't franchise him. I also don't see anyone of legitimate value at 18 other than WR or DL in that 18 range ( if the draft falls as we think it may ). I think there is a significant divide on Harrison Smith. I see those who like him in the late second/ early third range and those that don't saying he is too soft and too finesse have him in fourth/ fifth. IMO, there are better safeties but more importantly much better players available in rounds two and three to waste pick there unless we somehow pick up another selection in those rounds. --------------------------------------------- --- slammer8 wrote: Dallas, Harrison Smith is rated a 2nd round value. Its possible we would have to move up in the 2nd round to get him. I take it you are assuming that VJ is gone in which case I like Michael Floyd alot. I think he is the best WR in the draft, better than Blakmon and he is a good value at 18. DallasEire wrote: I no longer want to consider free agency with the idiocy leaking out from AJ through Acee just makes my hair hurt so time to focus on our pedestrian draft positioning to address team needs... good luck as we'll likely mortgage our round one, two, four, and five in 2012's draft along with our 1 and 2 in 2013's draft to move up two slots to the 16th pick this year for Harrison Smith in round one... however, assuming we simply draft in our positions with Sproles comp in RD4 and Burnett comp in RD6 my updated mock is:
- RD1 Michael Floyd (WR) - RD2 Billy Winn (DT) - RD3 Shea McClellin (OLB) - RD4 Ronnie Hillman (RB) - RD4 Lucas Nix (OG) - RD5 Cordaro Law (OLB ) - RD6 Evan Rodriguez ( TE ) - RD6 Winston Guy ( S ) - RD7 Blake DeChristopher ( RT ) ---------------------------------------------

Re: Rolling MOCKS
Was listening to Xxtra sports 1360 online yesterday (Chargers power hour and the drive) and they had John Spanos on there talking about the draft and the combine. Don't quote me on this because I can't remember word for word but here are some things I found interesting.
John states: They are look at Harrison Smith and for you San Diego State guys he did admit that they've been keeping tight dibs on Ronnie Hillman and that he is someone they are interested in. Those are the only two that he was willing to give out but says that just because they find interest in those two doesn't mean that they will be had at a position that the Bolts are comfortable taking them.
Moving up in the draft: He said they are more then willing to do so if they are sold on a player but they also feel that there is a lot of depth in this draft and there is just as much of a possibility that they stay at 18 or may even move down because they love the depth at DL and LB (particularly at the hybrid DE/OLB types) to where they could move down and grab a couple more picks.
According to John, it sounds like they did have an interview with Liuget (because I know that was a concern for some fans on here last season during draft time and a little after). May not have been with AJ Smith but I do remember him saying that through the interview process with Corey and what they saw from him at the combine pretty much sold them on what he "could" be and says that is the biggest thing. They try to "project" what they guys can do down the road and is the reason why English and even some of the other players that didn't work out for them were selected. He states that sometimes it workout for the better and sometime it doesn't you try to project their ability but you can never project health issues that may arise because there are guys that don't have an injury riddled past that end up having them in the NFL and guys that have injury riddled college careers that end up having solid careers.
Finally: They are now in the process of splitting up the rest of the scout teams to go out and do interviews and watch pro-days of guys how they also target that weren't at the combine and for those they are seriously considering that they saw at the combine just so they have another look and it isn't a Mike Mamula situation were the show up at the combine then slack off at their pro days because not all 32 teams will be represented there.

RE: Rolling MOCKS
Love this new mock by Walterfootball walterfootball.com/draft2012.phpOnly change I would be is second round I would probably go with Osemele in round two. Okay I might also grab Mercilus instead of Perry, or Grab Glenn then go for Curry or Ronnell Lewis in the second, but love round 3-5

RE: Rolling MOCKS
1. OLB Upshaw (I now think that Poe will be off the board, while Upshaw did not do enough at the combine to warrant a top first round selection).
2. OT Sanders . Clary will be a Charger, but I want him to be on the hot seat to lose his job to a high draft pick.
3. OG Washington. Have you seen this scary dude?
4. KR/WR Adams. We need better field position and this kid is lightning fast. He replaces Goodman, and has more upside as a WR.
Sproles pick: QB Lindley
5. TE Harkey Reminds me of BIG MANU, and it will help us run the ball, and he is a good blocker in pass protection.
6. OLB Vernon
7. OT Zusevics
I'm resigned to the fact that VJ will likely be gone..............
My new FA includes a starting SAFETY, WR, backup RB, Gaither, Garay, Hardwick, Hester.

RE: Rolling MOCKS
Stopped reading when it had Tannehill in the top 10 of Round 2 that is. Gil Brandt has already predicted he Tanny will go in the Top 10 of the draft and Gil is a little more knowledgeable on the process than Walter. benochia wrote: Love this new mock by Walterfootball walterfootball.com/draft2012.php Only change I would be is second round I would probably go with Osemele in round two. RE: Rolling MOCKS
With drop off at the QB position when it comes to guys that are ready now to guys that are more developmental I agree. Tanny is going to throw a monkey wrench in someone's draft board. Somebody is going to jump up and grab that kid, which bodes well for the Bolts at 18 leaving yet another prospect available to them. Those 3 QB's prospects could easily give the Bolts 15 chances to get a solid selection at 18. SoCalThrilla wrote: Stopped reading when it had Tannehill in the top 10 of Round 2 that is. Re: Rolling MOCKS
From the John Spanos information gathered above, it sounds like they might trade down and look for both Harrison Smith and pick up a Bruce Irvin for OLB based on his combine performance. They then could probably look for depth at OL or DL. I am still big on picking up Hillman for the Sproles compensation. I think Lindley will also be around in the 6th as a possible long term backup to Rivers.

Re: Rolling MOCKS
I know they are high on Smith and with Griffen being franchised by TN, I could see them going safety early in Round 1 or Round 2. If we could pick up an extra 3rd in trading down, I wouldn't mind Smith. I hope the Chargers get him though, he is a talent for sure.

Re: Rolling MOCKS
The BIG UGLY draft.
1. 3-4 DE Dontari Poe 2. NT Alameda Ta'amu 3. OG Brandon Washington 4. KR/WR Joe Adams Sproles comp: QB Ryan Lindley 5. OC Quinton Saulsberry 6. BPA 7. BPA
We infuse youth to our D-line. Poe starts right away with Liuget, while Ta'amu battles/rotates with BIG CAM in the middle, both staying fresh. Garay was not great last season, and I like the upside with Ta'amu and CAM.
Brandon Washington, I think is a "start right away" prospect at LG, while Green, Dombrowski add depth inside. I also like Saulsberry to battle Baxter to back up Hardwick. If he loses, he goes to the PS for now.
We need to do better returning kicks, and I like Adams more than Goodman, both in returns, and in upside at WR (slot).
It would be nice to see us develop Lindley like we did with Whitehurst.
This would remodel our trenches on the D-side nicely, and we would have a nice Dielman replacement, plus some depth.
NOTE: If there's a good OT candidate in any of the rounds, you have to consider him as well.

Re: Rolling MOCKS
My post combine mock draft If Decastro, Kuechly, Still, or any of the 3 OT’s aren’t available: Trade the 1st and 4th round pick to Cincy or NE for their 1st and 2nd 1) Whitney Mercilus - Good size, strength, and quickness, and a FF machine 2) Harrison Smith – Smart and a great tackler 2) Kelechi Osmele (as LG) – HUGE, pair him with Gaither and Mathews gets the rushing title in a few years IMO 3) Shea Mclellin/Jake Bequette – High energy OLB’s that know how to rush the passer, both need to work on size Sproles comp 4th) Michael Egnew or Mitchell Scwartz – Good Pass catching TE with speed and YAC; good at both run and pass blocking 5) Josh Chapman or Rainey/Hillman – NT, needs to put on size but his work ethic and character are huge advantages; Speed, Speed, Speed the X-factor player on offense we lacked the past few years Burnett comp 5th) Derek Wolfe or Miles Burris – High motor and playmakers at their respective positions. 6) Mike Harris/Keith Tandy/Larry Parker – Underrated corners 7) BJ Cunningham/Gerrell Robinson/Greg Childs – Big WR’s with nice hands…need work in some areas and need to bulk up.
With this draft we:
get depth at a lot of key positions like OLB, DL, and WR
shore up the SS position with the second best safety in the draft
pick up a versatile OL like that can play at both RT and G (preferably LG) so Green can go back to being our safety net.
get our TE of the future or replace Clary
AND get a special teamer just for AJ
Mock Draft 1)L.Johnson/J.Cooper 2)J.Taylor/D.Hopkins 3)A.Ellington/R.Alford 4)D.Quessenberry 5)B.Mcgee/TJ.Barnes 6)J.Boyce/E.Wolff 7)V.Williams/R.Rouse UFA)S.Maponga/N.Robey/J.Francis
