Chargers cuts

Here's a list of the cuts so far

I'm surprised Harris beat out Willie Smith. The other three needed to go

Re: Chargers cuts

If no one picks up Reese, he might end up on the PS.  I am not a Sorensen fan and feel that the Chargers need to address a succession to Rivers in the 2015 draft.  Maybe spend a 3rd or 4th rounder on a QB.

Doug Worthington
Joe kruger

Seriously? I guess the Bolts are going to play Manti as a DE now cause they just cut their Dline depth

I guess Palepoi is showing well. I hope we can keep at least one of those two new guys on the P.S.

Re: Chargers cuts

Mike Harris - T - Free Agent

Chargers waived OT Mike Harris, QB Brad Sorensen, CB Crezdon Butler and DE Joe Kruger.
The No. 221 pick of last year's draft, Sorensen wasn't active for a single game as a rookie. At best, he'll bounce around the league as a camp arm the next 2-3 seasons. Harris made a dozen starts between 2012-13, but missed the majority of last season with an ankle injury. A 2012 undrafted free agent, he was in over his head as a starter.

That's from rotoworld.com. I'm not sure if that's true though. But I'd do it that way myself.(cut Harris over Smith).

Re: Chargers cuts

I'm guessing (and hoping) that the Sorenson release is in part to keep both Oliver and Grice.  My guess is that one of them will be active every game, in part to at least help with kick return.  The other will be one of the game day inactives.

Then again, maybe it's to keep an extra guy at a different position.

Re: Chargers cuts

While I like the potential of both guys, If they keep both Palepoi and Carrethers on the 53 man roster, I don't see either one of them helping against NFL first teamers this season.  I hope I'm wrong, but right now that possibility is a bit of a head scratcher to me, especially considering the almost complete lack of talented depth with that unit.  Keeping one of them I could see, but I really want a guy who can at least provide some degree of consistency to go along with Guy backing up with that unit, not two green rookies who just aren't ready, yet.

Ghelken reporting that McCoy was RAVING about Tourek Williams' play.  Guessing that he's our 5th OLB.

If we don't keep Law, and keep Tourek???  banghead

I hope we do keep Tourek. Seems to have genuine upside. But he could be in a three-way battle against Law and Keiser for the 53.

Re: Chargers cuts

Tourek did look much improved. I remember that big tackle he made to save a first down....looked very explosive. But the game before that when he ran with the 1's against Seattle, he wasn't too impressive and did not do a good job of setting the edge.

I think Law is already where Tourek could be.  I do think Tourek has upside for sure, but I'd prefer Law right now, instead of where Tourek could be in a year or so.

Re: Chargers cuts

This is where I thought Worthington would stick with one of the young guys,
88 , just like the TV show 'KungFu' there was a Byron sighting walking towards Chargers Camp, ETA, Sept 7th !

Re: Chargers cuts

I think T. Williams and Keiser are on the 53 and Law is on the PS. Tourek is good on ST and Keiser can rush the passer. Law is just the odd man out but I dont see a problem keeping or losing any of the three. Glad to see C. Butler shown the door. He just wasnt any good. I think C. Davis, although a rookie, deserves a spot over both Marshall and S. Williams. He outplayed them all pre-season. I think Marshall is gone and S Williams stays but I hope Steve Williams doesnt see the field much at CB. He was straight up BAD in all the games. I dont care how athletic, fast, good scheme fit, etc....  or maybe some people just like the way he looks in white, but call me unimpressed. Move him to safety? Or Marshall?....Nope. Sorry. Watch the waiver wire(B. Deaderick, New Orleans or C. Walker, Carolina, IDK.. S. Fua, Denver perhaps) for a big veteren NT type to come in and push Carrethers or the mowin' samoan to the PS.

Cant stand the Donkeys

Re: Chargers cuts

Releasing Sorenson isn't a huge surprise as I thought it would happen if the Chargers got any positive indication from Rivers he would extend.  What plays against Sorenson since the day he was drafted is his age.  He's too old to keep as a developmental player.Clemons becomes the long term backup.

I think an extension through 2018 for Rivers is most likely.

Both Kruger and Worthington cuts are a bit of a surprise.  Lawrence Guy has shown nothing at all since he was signed.  But he was a Telesco favorite since Indy, where Telesco was involved in his drafting.

Personally I didn't see what McCoy was raving about with Tourek Williams.  Yes he's improved but considering how bad he was prior how much is that really saying?

Herndon is apparently hurt as is Torrance Allen, so I think they go IR and they compete next year  With Herndon getting hurt it basically guarantees V. Brown makes this roster for one last year.  I would rather have kept Brelan Chancellor than V. Brown actually..

The report they are keeping Mike Harris as the swing tackle is disturbing.  He's played poorly against second unit players.  He's another Clary type of OT.  That is not to say Smith is any better because he isn't.  He got man handled by backup players as well.

I don't see Ohrnberger as a lock to make this team.  With Watt and Troutman able to play C, they are 3 deep there already.

I think Grice goes to the PS.  Oliver is as good and is clearly faster and quicker, and runs with equal power.

What will be interesting is what they will do with Ducre and Davis, both of whom looked really good during preseason and TC.  If both are released I would be surprised if at least one isn't signed somewhere else.  I think Credzon Butler will be signed somewhere else as well.

Yep tomorrow will be an interesting day.

Re: Chargers cuts

Guessing there are tonnes of heated discussions between Pagano (wanting to keep Law, and more depth at DL), and Reich (wanting to keep 5 runningbacks...).

Telesco/McCoy are the tiebreaking votes...

I wonder how it will play out.
