Surprise cuts?

Surprise cuts?

After a few weeks into the preseason, and looming cuts coming fairly soon, I'm left to wonder whether some "surprise cuts" are on their way.

The first unfortunate names that I'm wondering about is Shareece Wright, and Richard Marshall.

Personally I'm thinking that Verrett and Ghee will be replacing them on the roster at this point.  Thoughts?

Any other surprise cuts you can see coming?

I don't think Tutu should be worried anymore, with Reese and Brown being invisible this PS as well.

Tutu is a lock in my view, and guys like Brown (who just cant stay healthy) have something to be worried about.

Marshall is on the bubble.  I think Tutu will make the team.

Well with the new PS ruling, 2 guys may get a stay of execution. I was REALLY hoping someone would 'Step Up'
Last week, wow, do these guys need extra motivation? I still think a fiery leader is needed out there, Weddle helps,
But someone in the Front 7, Freeney may be the Guy? Ahhh..... Jamal had it all, really is he THAT old?

What are the rules for PS eligibility? Some players are not eligible.

I thought that J.J. was supposed to be the vocal leader of the front 7 last year.  Haven't heard anything about him so far.

Re: Surprise cuts?

Under the new rules, the NFL is also expanding eligibility for players who have earned no more than two accrued seasons of free agency credit. Prior to that, a player who earned one or more accrued seasons would not be eligible for the practice squad unless the player spent fewer than nine games on a club's 46-man game-day roster in each of his accrued seasons.
Does this help?

It's not about how many times you get knocked down.  It's whether or not you are willing to get back up.

Re: Surprise cuts?

Vincent Brown is clearly on the bubble.  If he were healthy he would be good trade bait for teams like MN, TN, Carolina or Cleveland.

IMO Geathers is also a big bubble sitter.  He's shown nothing last year and now in 2 preseason games.  In both games he was manhandled by a single blocker.  Carrethers is marginally better but not by much.

I think Lawrence Guy is released and Palepoi takes his rotational spot. I think Palepoi has shown enough to warrant a year to develop.  He can play both 3 and 1 techniques much in the same way as Lissemore.

At this point I see the Dline ending up as:

Starters: Reyes, Luiget, Lissemore
Backups:  Worthington, Palepoi, Carrethers

I don't see Kavell Conner as a lock to make the roster as well.  He must show more this week or he could be a last minute release at the final cutdown.

Re: Surprise cuts?

The defensive line is our weakness.  Not sure I would release Guy if he can get healthy.
